Please forgive me if this topic has come up before, but after a quick look through the forums, I've not found anything relevant.
Seeing as we're supposed to be such scary raiders or pirates, why are we not allowed to 'aquire' equipment from other races and use it for our own purposes?
I was thinking along the lines of a Tau Battle suit thingy with a new paint job and added spikey bits and chains. Mmm.
Has anyone had similar thoughts or actually done it?
I'm going to do it anyway but I thought I'd put the idea out there.

Because Dark Eldar Tech is better then lesser races tech. At least in their eyes. If an Archon was seen to be making use of Tau or Imperial technology instead of their own they'd become a laughing stock and wouldn't stay Archon for long.

Also the fact that Eldar are like six, seven feet tall and Tau are, like, five.
Hard to fit your tall, gangly ass into a Riptide when you're half again as large as the pilot compartment... your knees would be all bent up to your pointy ears.

Thanks for the replies chaps and I understand your reasonings.
But still, DE styled battle suit piloted/driven by half a warrior, the top half of course! Either as punishment or possibly a reward?!
I'll think about it for a while.

I like the idea but it would be difficult to make it look right, DE have a very slick and pointy look while Tau Battlesuit is blocky and cumbersome in comparison.
If I were doing DE I'd be tempted to make my own Warp Spiders, but I don't know if that's massively heretical for DEs.

Some archon's capture and enslave Craftworld Wraith constructs to use in battle.
I'd presume they'd also take just about anything else from their lighter kin, should they want/need it.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)
2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

The only Archon in fluff with access to wraith constructs is Vect. You're free to create your own fluff though.
Generally Dark Eldar enjoy the visceral nature of battle, and prefer to be directly in the mix. It seems unlikely that any would want to be stuck in big metal box separated from the action, even if it was a mighty metal box. When they are piloting they are in things that go very fast, and are frequently open to the environment. As a race if they wanted suits or walkers they easily have the technology to make their own, I would assume the reason they don't is because they have no desire to have them.

Yeah, if Dark Eldar are going to use Wraith constructs, it seems far more in their style to enslave some poor soul bound in the machine than to willingly be turned into such a thing. And preferably the soul would be kept in constant agony because Dark Eldar.

Thanks for the responses.
I've read the fluff about Eldar and Wraiths etc. and I agree with what's been said. It would have to be a captured Wraith thingy, and tortured to comply with the archon's wishes.
As for a DE using captured equipment, an Eldar War Walker looks like a possible solution.

The Dark Eldar will NOT use Wraith constructs because those things are powered by physic souls and spirit stones. DE don't do physic ever! None of their units ever have any physic abilities ever because in the fluff it attracts the attention of she who thirsts.
Craft world technology requires a physic connection for all their technology including even their basic shuriken rifles - DE don't use them for a reason.
Along with everything else said - wraiths are just not fluffy with DE. Just use craft world allies. Playing unbound lists is the def. of non- fluffy and a lot of people will refuse to play against you.
Also tau battle suits used by DE? Lmao ROFL no one will take you seriously. How would you use the rules ? As tau allies in which case it doesn't make sense to convert it. As someone said any DE using Tau or imperial technology will be laughed out of the ranks. Lmao I can't stop laughing.

Wow! Tone it down a bit. Give the dude a break. Just because you don't agree with the idea doesn't mean you need to ridicule it.
@ OP. I agree with the sentiment that dark eldar wouldn't really be on board with using other faction's stuff. The way that your idea would make some sense to me would be for the suit to be a type of Taos pain engine. Maybe the Haemonculi decided to modify the suit to torture its user while still functioning in a battlefield role. Perhaps being forced to act against an Etherial's direction is even more tortuous to the poor tau victim.

I'll think about it for a while.
The thing you have to remember is that DE fight for pleasure. They do not raid because they absolutely need to raid to survive. With the webway if they need food or something they can raid incredibly lightly defended Agri worlds with ease.
They fight more heavily defended planets for the thrill of it. Proving to themselves that they are better. They do so to demoralize and terrorize other races. They do so to feel the rush of adrenaline, hear the screams of their enemy, see the life drain out of them as they die and feel the pain inflicted upon their bodied.
It would be harder to do that if they constructed huge battle suits that separate the user from the battlefield.

I agree DE ethnocentrism prevents them from using other races equipment, and even then, few pieces of tech made by other races would be as high of quality as what they take out on real space raids.

Not necessarily. I could see an Archon using some kind of Necron Guass weapon. The trick would be finding some piece of tech that is more advanced than what the DE could normally get their hands on, so that pretty much limits the scope to DAoT tech, some of the juicier bits of Necron tech, etc. It would just be another one of the Archon's trophies, and I'd imagine that, if anything, using something like a Necron Phaeron's reprogrammed personal guard would just garner more respect from his fellows.
EDIT: or the DAoT machine that lets you send black holes back in time! go to Armageddon a few hundred years after it was invaded and roflstomp everyone on it with a black hole!

Even DAoT stuff is worse than DE tech. DE are the eldar from before the fall. Only newcron tech bests them.
Archons though, you are right. They fear treachery. They might consider a retinue of dependible retainers. Sslyth or some such. I still have a project going to convert a bunch of necron immortals into count as sslyth.

Read Path of the Archon, a major plot point is about Vect's ace in the whole weapon. Named Castigores, Vect has plundered Craftworld after Craftworld over the centuries and has collected their Soul Stones and Wraithguard. He now has an army of them, all Dark Eldar'd up to be faster and more spikey, all stored in vaults around Commaragh. They are his Ace in the Whole against his own people, as Dark Eldar weaponry is mainly reliant upon inflicting pain which his Wraiths can't feel. The Souls themselves are in a dream-like state, constantly reliving their last battle as they do whatever Vect orders from his throne room. I really wish they were a unit available in the codex, the book made them sound really cool.

Nope, not true. DAoT tech rivals that of the Necrons, and virtually all of Eldar pre-fall tech was psychic in nature, making most of it worthless.
I direct you to this thread regarding DAoT tech, which contains many examples of DAoT tech which rivals, and, occasionally, surpasses that of the Dark Eldar and/or Necrons http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/514361.page
