Yes! Me too! I always loved the look of them in the old White Dwarfs, but sadly I've never seen a citadel halfling in real life.

Also! I played a 4 player team skirmish today. We did the wyrdstone hunt and I messed with the warbands a bit. Since I have a ton of unused Skaven I decided we would all play as them. We all took exactly the same lists and paired off into teams. Each player had an Assassin and 2 Henchmen, a spear rat and sword rat respectively. Each Assassin was armed with sword and buckler and everyone got light armour and either a shield or a buckler. Each band cost 235 gc. Since I was the only one with any Mordheim experience I wanted all the players to start on the same level. Also this way each player can grow their band as they see fit. Since we are playing Skaven I imagine there will be some alliance breaking later on!

The game was pretty straightforward, no one had any missile weapons so it only took 2 turns to get things started. My fiance and I won by forcing our friends to voluntarily rout after we killed 3 of their henchrats. They managed to get both wyrdstone so at least they got some exp! No one lost any hero's but every henchman who was put out ended up dying, so that was unlucky. All in all I think everyone enjoyed their first real game of Mordheim and we can't wait to play again.

Thanks for reading my blabs, and if anyone has any more Mordheim stories to share please feel free! I definitely would like to read them!

I like the Battleforge halflings myself.

Power to you, if you want to start a Halfling warband. The old GW Ratling models might also serve the role of handgunners well with some conversion work, too.

I was a jammy git and found the mother lode of old citadel miniatures at a charity shop in Oxford (Barnado's on Cowley Road). Basically somebody who worked at GW during the early nineties regularly dumps batches of hundreds of figures on them. Well worth visiting if your ever in the city. They turn up in this blog http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/356363.page

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

They would do better to focus on more mainstream and popular teams for starters I think.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

migooo, do you know what scale they'll be in? By which I mean what will they be a better match for; old-style GW(heroic 28mm, like 6th Ed Empire), new-style GW(slightly less heroic but still not "true", vary between 30-32mm to-eyes scale, think Skitarii or the FW resin Empire figs), or what seems to be en vogue for companies right now("true" 32-35mm)?

Crossing my fingers for the middle one; folk seem to either prefer Ye Olde Schoole style or the modern style these days, but I quite like the middle ground as it lets you include a broader range of figs from the other styles without it looking out of place.

Awesome stuff. I still have the ogre on the right with the nipple chain. Turned him into an Ork Nob.

Love Mordheim. I have played many games since it was released. Sadly I don't play GW's games much any more, but the idea to fire up a Necromunda, Gorkamorka, or Mordheim campaign is always lurking in the back of my mind. Here's a bunch of my painted Mordheim minis.

One of these days I will have to break down and do something about those green base rims...

Thanks for looking!

Oh jeez, some of the older models are nice.

I should post my war and I used at our local GW for the campaign we had a month ago. Was a fun three months.

Youwashock, those are great minis!

You're right those bases need redone, but I'd keep the classic scheme! I like the old school style bases but they just need a more modern execution I think.

Also!

Here is the better half's Skaven Warband from the other night. I decided to paint them all up a bit so everyone would get into it more. I have to find out the other two's favourite colours, but I suspect somebody will want their rats in the same livery as their dratted space wolfs!

Anyways here they are. Pretty basic, no conversions, but then again, I'd still like to play Warhammer the Game of Fantasy Battles with them so... This is just the base coat by the way, and I still have to do their tails, but then its on to a wash. I'll let that dry overnight and as long as I don't get distracted they'll get some more layers. Also their eyes may look bad now but once some red ink gets in there and then some brown ink... Damn. That will look nice.

... When they get better I can switch out their Hero's for more detailed models. Maybe I'll pick up a box of Stormvermin and Clanrats before they vanish.

Ready for the wash. Probably a good mix of black and then brown.
Spoiler:

I wanted to talk about this mini Skaven campaign a bit so...

... I know we've got 4 Adepts, so how does that work with team battle? Everyone moves their own models and admittedly having 4 leaders means combat is super dicey, but that's okay! It just means that sooner or later a leader will die and the remaining warriors will be folded into another band and then it will pretty much be set teams from them on. Skaven though... You never know when they might betray one another! Since everyone has fought a battle now it should be time to expand the ranks of each Warband. Maybe another hero and a henchman for each? This may be how I finally get my IoB Skaven all painted!

Also some folks might be wondering at using Skaven for starting new players on, but I think as long as no one is allowed to buy mass slingers it should be okay! Lol! Though in truth I'm still pretty new myself so if anyone has any tips for keeping things fun and relatively fair then that would be awesome.

best thing to do with mordheim is make it an escalation campaign there are character/warband sheets out there to help keep track and a skills table to pick from with each faction being different and even if a few people play similar warbands they may choose diffrent skill sets and such to keep it intresting also try adding a narrative element to the campaign

I think they are done, how about you guys? The light is a bit off and some of the lighter colours are washed out... Hmmm...

Anyways, I think I'm ready to call these rats done. Now they just need names! Well a Warband name and a name for the hero at least...

Okay, did some touch ups and my wife finally came up with a name for her Warband and its current leader. It took some gentle persuasion for her to name them herself and finally she shouts...

Spoiler:
Jimmy Jawbreaker and The feth You's!

Bwahaha, that love of mine! She'll probably win the campaign... Ruthless when it comes to games I say. You should play her blue deck...

Also check out my screaming rat face on the shield.

So here is an update.

Witch Hunters, Marienburgers, and Skaven.

The rats are for that campaign I was talking about earlier. The other two bands I made out of a Flagellant box and a State Trooper box.

I also made a Necromancer for the upcoming undead warband. Pics of him later...

Spoiler:

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also I wanted to talk a bit about house rules.

I had a few ideas for armour and shields as the general concencus seems to be that these two items are pretty useless. I want players to be encouraged to use them, but not have them be overpowering. Hero's should probably always be armoured where the case applies, but I wouldn't want that to be a handicap. Rather it should be a sensible option, an auto take that doesn't break the game but provides a realistic layer of protection.

When equipped with Ligh or Heavy Armour and a Shield you can reroll one failed armour save in each round of close combat.

No movement penalty for Heavy Armour and Shield unless also wearing a Helmet.

Shield armour save can always be taken unless the blow causing the wound is double the users own strength, or is a critical hit that ignores armour saves.

With these changes I haven't messed around with much. The first point gives you a reason to take both armour and shield while the second point removes the penalty for having one of the two combinations, unless you also took a helmet. The third point gives you a persistent 6+ save for most attacks while not being enough to diminish the effects of light armour on its own.

Any thoughts?

I like your idea for shields and armor, darkcloak. The only amendment that I could make would be to the re-rolls with shields. Being able to effectively get double armor saves every round of combat seems like a bit much. Something in the vein of gaining the WHFB-style parry save would be fair, though.

@youwashock, thanks! I was really looking forward to doing the Marienburgers and then when I finally got the kits I ended up doing the Witch Hunters first. The warrior priest is probably my favourite. Hunters hate spellcasters, but warrior priests use a type of spell... So I gave the priest the head from the Flagellant kit that has the mouth sewn shut! This way everyone proves their fanatical devotion to Sigmar!

@youidiotkid, thanks again! I figured I needed to make armour more worthwhile so that's my attempt. About the rerollable armour save... I've already given shields a better save that can't be ignored easily so a WFB style parry seems redundant. What if I added a sentence to point one like this?

This reroll is subject to an extra -1 save modifier. So a warrior in Heavy Armour who normally requires a 4+ will require a 5+ on the reroll. Apply any other armour modifiers as normal to the reroll as well.

There. So now what is happening to a fully armoured warrior when he takes a wound is this. He takes a str 5 wound. Wearing Light Armour with a Shield he has a 5+ save which is negated by
the str 5. However he has a Shield and so can take his Shield save of 6. He fails and gains a reroll, however with the extra -1 save mod he cannot actually roll and the wound scores.
If he was wearing heavy armour he would have gained a 6+ save on his reroll. If the blow was str 6 he would have been wounded with no save allowed (assuming t 3 ) and if the blow had been str 5 and him in Heavy Armour then he would have been able to take his reroll as a 6+.
