Hey, I got a pretty nasty idea for a bike list when I heard the magic words "Skilled Rider USR confers to the unit". My idea was to get a White Scars libby conclave and Smashfether to join with a Ravenwing force to cover the field with units rerolling 2+ cover saves. I think I have the basics covered but some comments and suggestions are very welcome.
Ravenwing Strike Force:
Sammael
RW Command Squad, 5 bikes, apothecary, champion, RW banner & grenade launcher
3*RW Bike Squads, 2 grav guns, combi-grav and melta bombs on sergeants
Ravenwing Support Squadron:
3*Land Speeder with multi-meltas, 1 assault cannon and 2 typhoons
Darkshroud
Clan Raukaan Allied Detachment:
Smashfether, chapter master, bike, artificer armour, digital weapons, gorgon's chain and a thunder hammer
Bike Squad, 2 grav guns and a combi-grav
White Scars Librarius Conclave:
3*lvl 2 Librarians, bikes
1848 points
Librarians go with RW bike squads, Smashfether joins Sammy and the command squad. A few questions come to my mind and I'd really appreciate some input on these: Is the RW support squadron really worth it? At first I thought that I kind of want to have the Ravenshield special rule but the other speeders cost so much and I end up with only one Darkshroud. Should I drop the support squadron and just get more shrouds? Also, the lone Raukaan bike squad is the weakest link in the army. With no IC's to boost jink saves (not to mention rerolls on those jinks) and only 3 bodies it is the most vulnerable unit on the board and seems like just almost giving away first blood. Should I just get some sniper scouts to sit on a backfield objective instead? If/when the DA book gets FAQ'd do you think that swapping Sammy for a chaplain or another librarian would be a good idea?

Here's an alternative version:
RW Strike Force:
Sammael
RW Command Squad, 5 bikes, RW banner, apothecary, champion, grenade launcher
3 RW Bike Squads (6, 6 and 7 bikes) 2 grav guns, melta bombs and combi-grav
2 Darkshrouds, assault cannons
Raukaan AD:
Smashfether, artificer armour, bike, gorgon's chain, digital weapons, thunder hammer
Sniper Scouts, missile launcher
White Scars Conclave:
3 Librarians, bikes and force swords
1849 pts.
Thoughts?

Not too many people seem to play Newcrons around here or I've just been lucky avoiding them pretty well. Also, glad to hear that you like it! Any suggestions though, especially on the second version of the list? I'm thinking of taking the assault cannons off the Darkshrouds because they'll be jinking anyway. Could buy the librarians combi-gravs with those points.

Sammael is not bad, but an interrogator chaplain with zealot would turbo charge your death star in close combat (and you could drop digital weapons). Can even give him THE MACE of Redemption relic and he's still cheaper than Sammael. The ATC already allows non Ravenwing HQ in that detachment in their FAQ,I expect more to follow.
Can you take that iron hands bike squad as troops in the allied detachment? Anyway yes scouts are great, but maybe give them bolters.
The support land speeder squad is great standing off with just typhoons and interceptor, but if they get close your opponent will try to make all of them jink. Refuse to be terrorized! The unit always has stealth AND shrouding so long as the dark shroud and at least one land speeder is alive (I think?) so risk the 4+ single roll. If you already have them built with 24" weapons, consider running the speeders individually, or replace them with more black knights because you can never have too many. That frees the dark shroud to advance with your bikes. And yes it shouldn't have an assault cannon because it should Always Be Jinking.

Remember only the Ravenwing get the Jink reroll, not the White Scars (who will have a 2+ jink though). What is your plan vs Multiple Knights?
The conclave makes perfect sense in this list (though I'd go Mauls over swords as they are better against everything except 3+ save units which you'll wipe with Black Knights anyway). Get Invis up on the star and add some Psychic offense too.
It is the support and Smashfether I don't see really fitting. Have you considered a Champions of Fenris detachment instead of the Ironhands? Adding some Thunder Wolf Battle Leaders and Iron Priests to the unit. Gives you S10 thundergammers to deal with Knights. Then perhaps put some melta MSU in support?

I completely agree that an Interrogator Chappy would be a lot better. I don't really see the point in having 2 Eternal Warriors in the same squad so a Zealot would be a lot better. If only Battlescribe would let me use other HQ choices too (hint hint ) Bikers would definitely fit better with the overall theme of the army but like I said, a lone Raukaan bike squad is just going to get picked off too easily, especially because I can't mix and match chapter tactics. I'll have to think about this some more. For now I think I'll stick with some long range fire support with the scouts. If I end up taking bikers most likely I'll get 2 squads so I can make Smasher my warlord and hopefully get that 3+ FNP. The only speeder I have built is one with an assault cannon and a multi-melta.

Wouldn't the white scars and smashfethers iron hands clash and stop it from working?
And don't black knights already have skilled rider and hit and run? Might as well make the Librarians Iron Hands in that case.

Mauls might indeed be the way to go, same with melta. I've never liked Space Puppies at all but you do have a good point there... maybe it's time for a change. This list is after all just a sketch so I just put grav everywhere I could now that DA actually have access to it Automatically Appended Next Post: Crazyterran wrote:Wouldn't the white scars and smashfethers iron hands clash and stop it from working?

The only model with the Chapter Tactics rule in the star is the Smashfether himself. DA don't have it so can't mess it up either. I'm planning on usin the librarians with the regular bikers who don't have skilled rider.

You want the conclave in the star for invis. You don't want your invisibility granting models vulnerable. Grav is great on bikes just don't think it fits here. Though it helps against Wraithknights which your star can't deal with. Though as I say going CoF solves both issues for the star...
So my advice is take this and add the Conclave to it (removing a RW libby or perhaps swapping both for Sammael for EW):

Then you can deal with everything.
