One of the greatest, if not the greatest, heels in professional wrestling has died:
Wrestling legend "Rowdy" Roddy Piper has died at the age of 61, WWE announced Friday.
Piper suffered a heart attack at his home in Hollywood, California, according to Variety.
"Roddy Piper was one of the most entertaining, controversial and bombastic performers ever in WWE, beloved by millions of fans around the world," said WWE chairman and CEO Vince McMahon. "I extend my deepest condolences to his family."
Piper, born Roderick Toombs, joined WWE in 1984. He was part of the main event of the first Wrestlemania, teaming with Paul Orndorff to take on Hulk Hogan and Mr. T.
Inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005, Piper was well-known for his microphone skills and often hosted the Piper's Pit segment during WWE shows.
Outside the ring, Piper starred in the 1988 movie "They Live."
Piper is survived by his wife, Kitty, and their four children.
May he chew bubblegum and kick ass in Heaven!

And some, I assume, are good people."
This was my exactly reaction when I read this on Twitter. While I may not have watched wrestling since I was a little kid, seeing my favorites die out has been sad.
I can't believe he's dead. The guy was one of the best villains of the 80s era (possibly any era) of wrestling, and he made some entertaining movies, too. And I dearly loved his cameo in Saint's Row 4.
I'm gonna go off in a corner and feel miserable for a few days.

Right there with Hogan and Macho Man as the best entertainers in wrestling during that era IMO. And a genuinely funny guy (which Hogan wasn't and Macho Man was).
Off camera a surprisingly good guy and as gorgon pointed out genuinely funny. I was somewhat surprised to see him pass but then I remembered that pro-wrestlers often go a bit earlier than most. I am not into wrestling but it always seemed that he was one of the greats.
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.
Though on a serious note I hope the newer generation of wrestlers are taking note of the staggering number of aging ex wrestlers who are dropping dead from heart attacks at relatively young ages and trying to avoid using the same 'enhancements'.

Especially wrestlers from that era, as steroid use was far more prevalent and the effects they have on the human body weren't as well understood.

Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.
