No they don't. They're evolving it.

It's not an evolution to move from fast, mechanised combined arms, which is very effective at mitigating losses by making each individual component less important, to putting all your resources in giant robots which, if destroyed, represent a huge loss of materiel.

The Tau had already adapted to all the enemies they faced before the Riptide was even introduced. In fact GW had to retcon previous fluff to make even the Riptide seem necessary or sensible. The Tau adapt not through building bigger robots but by tactics.

As previously pointed out, the Taus response to Titans was fast attack craft with Railguns and Mantas with enough missiles to take down a cruiser.

As for this being a sept defence, the Tau already have heavily armed orbital platforms, air caste fleets and fire caste cadres.

Agreed!
Alas, we all know selling an even more expensive plastic figure has always been far more important then the lore....

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

No, the castes are different on the genetic level.
Sort of like sub-races, think how some insect colonies got different "types" of members, with vastly different bodies.

An earth caste and a fire caste are physically different and has different capabilities. a fire caste simply does not have the technical and analytical abilities of an earth caste, and an earth caste does not have the nerves, endurance and aim skills of a fire caste-even on the innate level.
Sure, you can train fire as earth or earth as fire-but the results will be subpar, just like high speed manuvers are kept to air caste-their mind's handle it the best.
For the KX, you need tech skills, not combat skills. so using earth caste makes sense, just like tau jets are piloted by air caste, despite being clearly a military object.

I don't recall seeing anywhere that the different castes are genetically different. Different races perhaps but all still fundamentally the same species. The only physical differences between Tau of different castes I've seen is the changes in physiology of the air caste brought on by extensive exposure to microgravity, but that doesn't make them a different species.

The Tau who does not adapt is silly. Why can't we have all of our previous tactics and this? Why should we ever limit our capabilities? Okay we have combined arms.

We also have big suits.

There is no limitation our ingenuity and adaptability won't overcome.

Even if it means we have to trod over the staunch defenders of the past who refuse to change.

Shas'o Or'es'ka was a visionary commander in our time. He predicted the rise of a new path of Tau warfare that could be used alongside the others.

"Great Strength, Great Strike" Is what he termed the new style of warfare. He constructed a gigantic moon canon to bombard a planet and destroy everything on the surface before sending in the Hunter Cadres. Brutal by Tau standards? Yes. It worked though.

So the Tau, a super advanced race from the future whose entire way of war is the application of long ranged firepower, is unable to solve a problem which we solved after the second world war?

That makes it as bad as the rationale for the Riptide.

Well, I just find pretty baffling that a player of the most adaptive army in the game could hold back for new stuff.

To each his own, though. I find FW's reasoning quite acceptable and I love the new model. They want to create a SH vehicle (to carter those not interested in mechas) and it's just a new option - there's no need to use it, if you don't like it.

Yes, Tau are adaptive, and no, there is nothing to credibly stop them from making ever bigger versions of their battlesuits. I merely have a personal regret that they have moved away from a rather nice differentiator that the tau forces had in terms of equipment and tactics.

They are noted as being physically different. Water and Air Tau are both taller than Fire and Earth Tau. The codex itself says that they had separated into four subraces during their early evolution, before the Mon'tau.

Heck. Air Tau used to be able to fly.

Don't have time to look for qoutes right now, but its outright stated multiple times that the five castes are indeed subraces of tau. for example water are tall and slender, earth has a stout build , the ancestors of the air caste used to have glide membranes, etc.
And given that breeding between castes is forbidden, the genetical differences are maintained-despite the fact they are all one "superrace".
Kind of like how purebred dogs are.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

No I meant like. "Eureka! " or "I got it!" It was an exclamation as my inspiration struck me for my paint scheme. Sorry if you thought I actually had it.

Hahaha this is pretty funny.
