I was just wondering about how many people prefer one form of a codex over another. I'm not saying one form is better over the other, just which way you yourself prefer to use.

I like both.

Physical Codex - feels nice to have something in hand that you can flip through. I'm a fan of books in general.

Digital Codex - I own some of the enhanced ones for the iPad and I do like those a lot. Its kind of neat that they do little updates for them so they incorporate some stuff from faqs or errata... or other changes like when 7th came out and they updated some to sort of work better with 7th. The eBook versions that you can use are okay too in that they're just as portable... I just prefer the enhanced iPad ones for the 'update' factor i mentioned.

Picked physical but wish purchase of physical gave automatic digital. No way I'm doing both with any codex.

Digital scans of the physical codex. I like the layout of the physical books, but prefer to have just my ipad with me. PDF files are just so much nicer. Even though I have the epub of the new Space Marine codex I still use the leaked images I gathered into a PDF during a game. Just so much better looking and easier to reference. I hate clicking things.

But I also keep a physical mini rulebook. I definitely prefer the rulebook to be physical. Easier to flip back and forth between pages that way.

i now buy everything i used to buy in print on the iPad, and always go for the Enhanced Editions (the layout is just so much nicer to look at, and the little extra functions like 360 degree pics, enlarging pics, voice-over flavor text, and rule pop-ups are fun features)...
it is so much nicer for portability, and since i am always moving every couple of years, i don't have to box up all of my books and magazines anymore...
those things get heavy when you box them up!!!

i really like that i can be anywhere in the world, and get a new Codex, novel, or magazine the moment it is released, thanks to even remote locations having internet these days...

I like digital because apple ID sharing makes them 1/10th the cost. $6 codexes is awesome. I still prefer physical copies but you cant beat that price.

I prefer having the physical book to browse through. I even prefer the small one for reference over a digital one. But the normal sized codices is where it's a for me. I don't have a tablet and don't plan on getting one and the iphone is way too small to use. I have the odd digital copy on my PC but I very rarely use them at all.

They have voice over flavor text in some of them?! That's so cool.

Assuming they have the same amount of content, digital. But in my experience, digital-exclusive codices have less content.

Physical. I love paper books.

However, if GW had a pc version (that would run on Surface Pro 3) equivalent to the fantastic iPad version, I would buy both on factions I played.

One Apple ID can support up to 10 devices, apple has no way of tracking it plus they have loop holes in their ToS for book clubs and businesses. You just use your apple ID on those 10 devices and the content is shared. Everyone pitches in for iTunes cards and 1 person governs it. Super easy and you get 50-90% off the price, and that's not including the sales that are constantly on iTunes cards. Even with you and 1 buddy makes it worth while, especially with the rate in which books are coming out.

I bought a digital codex, thinking I'd like it so much because I'd save €10. I kind of regret it. Can't count the amount of times my cell phone/tablet died on me by the end of the day.

What tablet do you have? I charge my iPad mini once every 3 weeks.

Used to be firmly in the physical camp and would even buy codicies for armies I didn own.
But since getting an ipad the ease of use/search function/ease of transport now has me firmly in the digital camp.

Cant see myself buying any more physical copies tbh.

Wild guess, digital-exclusive means the Inquisition and Adeptas Sororitas Codexes, which are 130/150 pages as opposed to the 350 pages ish of 'normal' codexes, but you still pay 2/3rds the price of a full one.

There are a couple people in our group that split the digital codex releases that way (one of the also buys the paper verisons). They have an iPad specifically for GW books. TBH, if I could live with an iPad instead of a PC as my gaming tablet, I would be in on it like a dirty shirt. It's a great way to defray the costs of the rules, and perfectly legal, too (I think?). In a similar way, it's a great way to split satellite cable TV with your buddy (3 people, 1 subscription, split costs -- though there, it might not be legal? again, I dunno).

Physical, definitely. Not quite the same game, but for a few weeks we had to use my phone for the Necromunda rules, and it's so much more hassle to flip between pages compared to a physical book. I will say, however, that I personally prefer softback to hardback.

I bring both to my games so its irrelevant.
I do wish that GW would come out with the enhanced edition for the necrons codex though.
I also wish that the digital codexes would include white dwarf unit pages, such as gerantius, the green knight.
Or they could come out with an enhanced edition compilation book that contained all such WD units, and update it regularly.

Officio Assassinorum - 4 Assassins
CSM - 500pts? Maybe? Its from the Officio Assassinorum box so I'm pretty sure its not enough to run in a CAD

actually, it was not clear, which is why i was asking for some specifics...
i assume Quanar got it right, and you were only refering to SoB and the Inquisition???
since i have been buying all of my books digitally since that became an option, i completely forgot that those two were digital-exclusive these days...

Vanished Completely

While I hate not being able to provide a page number when referring to a Rule during debate, the Control-F function of a Digital Codex is very useful for research.
