This is my 2015 report on the Fantasy Flight Games In-Flight report from GenCon. Sorry for the delay. This past week, our house got passed over by a tornado and we gots about $5000 in the hail damage. It's like brain damage, but it's just pock marks on your siding and involves insurance and stuff. Also, inlaws coming to town next week, so I've been busy.
So, moving on:
The first 20 minutes or so was a celebration of their being alive for 20 years. If
FFG was a chick, I could buy her drinks next year. They had this graph that showed how much sales they had each year. Something, something adjusted for inflammation. They would say "In 1999, we made game X" and then show the graph trending up and how they were figuring out what gamers want. Yeah, right. We're a bunch of finicky tools. Anyhow, at the last minute, I decided to take out my iPhone to capture the final graph through 2015, but I Kronked it and put my finger over the camera. Here is a totally legit mockup:
They also talked about how the Asmodee merger allowed them faster access to the European market and was an established distributor and.... Sorry, I fell asleep again.
Moving on to more interesting gak:
For the rest of 2015, we'll see releases in Imperial Assault, Armada (He made a joke like "You guys really like Star Wars." Looking around the room (and in a mirror) we also like chocolate and XXL shirts, captain obvious! Also, Forbidden Stars, and a New Line he's calling Euroclassics. Specifically, Tigris and Euphrates, and Samurai.
GenCon Releases:
1. Game of Thrones 2nd edition LCG, sold out on Thursday, making it the best selling 1st day release in
FFG history, and the biggest sellout since Metallica.
2. Red Planet board game.
New gak!
1. Battle Lore: Another expansion with new monsters and introduces the Undead Faction. Releases in September this year.
2. Decent: Monster and Hero packs, Mysts of Biohall?, with some undead or something. Dunno. The guy next to me started clapping and gak and I wasn't interested.
3. Armada Wave 2: will have an ISD. feth you, scale grognards. The damn thing looks cool.
4. Eldrech Horror Expansion: Full side board expansion! Under the Pyramids, which I guess is a reference to the display at the Louvre in France. It will have some Prelude mechanic where you randomly determine which of the expansions you use to keep it interesting, like when I ask my wife...(Ow! Stop hitting me!)
5. Star Wars
RPG: Force and Destiny released at GenCon
6. Imperial Assault: Twin Shadows Expansion released at GenCon. In September, they will release Skirmish Game Head-to-Head expansion packs.
* But the big news is the next expansion "Return to Hoth". This will be as big of a box as the Core set and will have a full campaign. Later, there will be expansions like Wampas and Speeders and Frostbitten Fingers!
7. Star Wars X-Wing: The Imperial Raider was shown at GenCon. In 2-3 weeks, Wave 7 will be out. It will include Scum and Villany stuff, Tie Punisher, K-Wing?
* New! Imperial Assault Carrier from the Rebels TV Show. It comes with 2 Tie Fighters that actually dock to the ship.
* Wave 8: Mist Hunter, Punishing One, Inquisitor's Tie (Rebels TV Show), and Ghost with attaching/detaching Phantom. Will release somewhere between November 2015 and January 2016.
8. New Game: Fury of Dracula. Fall/Winter 2015
9. Warhammer Quest. $40 USD, Adventure Card Game. Late 2015. You play a Hero in the Old World. 2 Campaigns come in the box. Cooperative or Collabrative play.
10. Runebound. Reprint of the old game with updated stuff.
11. Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He can neither confirm nor deny that they are in super-secret talks with Disney, or that stuff is in the works, or that product is "On the water."
12. There was a Q and A with people being butt-hurt on how the X-Wing championships were handled at GenCon. Instead of regional/national qualifiers, you just had to buy a ticket, which sold out in 15 minutes. They are going to make changes next year for them like reserved spots for winners and stuff.
13. Hungry Kronk was Hungry and I left.
