Just wondering what would be better for my khorne daemonkin army, soul grinder or Defiler. What are your thoughts?

I've always feared defilers a little more, their ranged weapon is ap 3 so it hurts a bit more and they are just as scary in CC as the soul grinder.

Grinder is superior in pretty much every possible way. Its cheaper, more durable, and can carry the same or better weaponry (phlegm bombardment is pretty much identical to battlecannon, its also ap3. Skyfire autocannon, and torrent flamer). Defiler's need to be 50-75 points cheaper, have AV13, and/or ignore ordiance on their battlecannon to be close to comparable to grinders.

If you swapped the cost of the Defiler and Soul Grinder... I would still prefer the Soul Grinder.

Yeah Soul Grinders are pretty much always betters if you're comparing the two. Plus the Soul Grinder can deep strike

Soul Grinders are so much better... I have 2 Soul Grinders and 3 Defilers... I proxy the Defilers as Soul Grinders to run 5 of them.
The Defilers Battle Cannon has a little more range than the Phlegm bombardment... But totally not worth the trade offs.
Soul grinder is a daemon (5++), has better armor, has skyfire, can deepstrike, and is much cheaper pointwise.

Defiler has Daemon as well, and so fares about as well against Lance and Melta weapons as a Soul Grinder.

Except that they can get Daemon of, which make nurgle/tzeentch to be more resilient than your avg defiler, can't remember if they can go Daemonless thou.

That's right... Defiler does have daemon in Khorne Daemonkin- just not in CSM... Soul Grinder is still a better option .

I would say the soul grinder, general consensus is that the defiler is terrible

This, the Soul Grinder is just flat out superior. The Defiler was mediocre, at best, at 150pts, at 200pts, it's laughable.

Whne they where 150pts, i always used 2 with 4 CCW.
But at 200pts for a 12armor?..., nope switched to Soul grinder when i started to play KDK.

Its the AV12 that kills it. Too much S7 high RoF stuff out there for AV12 to last more than a blink or two.
