In playing another game the other night, we realized that units of Trolls (or Minotaurs or whatever) are nearly impervious to Battleshock. Since Battlshock is based on models killed, not wounds done.
Is this how you have all been playing it?

That is correct. Units of high wound count models are less impacted by battle shock than units of single wound models.

Indeed. However there is nothing stopping the player suffering battleshock and retreating

First 'proper' game I played, Retributors went in, killed a single Chaos troll, and my opponent lost the other two to battleshock...

That stinks for your opponent, but he must have rolled a 6. On a 1-4, nothing would have happened.

Exactly. Big stuff just seems to be 'immune' to battleshock because it takes more wounds to remove a model - but from experience so far, Retributors with a bit of ranged/magical softening up before the charge seem to generate a lot of 'shock tests on big guys.
Because Battleshock increases potential losses the more wounds you've caused, I've found that a general tactic of focussing on as few units as possible - rather than charging/shooting piecemeal at a whole army - reaps huge rewards. It shouldn't be difficult to take 3 ogres off a unit in a single turn with a bit of co-ordination, for example.
And against 'normal' infantry, there's a glorious schadenfreude in watching your opponent roll to see how many extra guys he's going to lose, rather than *if* he's going to lose any...

Exactly the same (but to Cold One Knights not Rets) happened me too... Never laugh and say its no problem before you roll the dice
But in general, it seems multiwound models have less risk of failing battleshock but when they do fail they lose alot instead. Hm that's nice about Crypt Horrors I suppose, with their bravery 10 they could as well be immune to battleshock alltogether

It's fairly balanced for trolls, ogres etc.
I lost one mounfang in my last game with ogres, lost a second to battleshock, one left in the unit :(
But for undead? It negates battleshock entirely. A unit of 5 chariots can lose 4, and the fifth doesn't even need to roll.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

Okay I keep hearing undead are basically "immune" to battleshock. What am I missing, because I cant figure out why that is.

It's because they have Bravery 10 more or less across the board. You have to lose 5 models before you even have a chance for battle shock to cause you to lose more. Say you lose 4 models. You roll a D6 and get a 6. Add 4 to the 6 and you have 10. Did you exceed your Bravery? Nope. You're good.
The example was a unit of 5 Chariots. If you lose 4, the worst battle shock roll you can get is 10 (6+4), which isn't enough to cause you to lose a model. Hence, a unit of 5 models with Bravery 10 is immune to battle shock. Larger units can still be impacted.
Compare this to Ogres...
A unit of 5 Ogres loses a single model. You roll a 6 for your battle shock test. 6+1 is 7. You exceed the Unit's Bravery stat of 6 by 1 and lose another model. If the same unit of 5 lost 4 models, you'd lose the 5 on a battle shock roll of 3+.

Ah okay, I thought thats what it was but kept figuring that since that armor saves of most of undead infantry aren't that great, (AKA expects to lose 7+ regularly) that it might be something else. I've still yet to play a game, which is best how I learn rules. Bear with me please as I continue to ask dumb questions on the system.

It's because they have Bravery 10 more or less across the board.
This seems to be the case with Daemons as well. Most, if not all, of the ones I have encountered seem to have 10 bravery.
