Subject: Re:Crusade of Fury. (insert your forces into the crusade, for or against)
How does one go about joining in with this? Just saw it from some chatter on a thread in the background forum and would love to join in - only I'd want to write Nids, if that were possible!
Spoiler:
It works like any RPG. We have a GM (currently Smudge) who you PM with a mission in mind, and a number between 1-100. He will give you the results, and you write up what happened accordingly. Nids are going to be tricky to see, so that will be quite interesting to see. Welcome aboard!
Spoiler:
Cheers for the info! I'll give it a shot - GW seem moderately able to write fairly compelling Nid stories, so I'll see what I can do . One more question - I've tried to get up to speed with what is going on in the setting by reading back a few pages, but it's still pretty confusing without the context of having played for a while... Any chance I could get a vague TLR on the state of the system?

Major fighting got done on Kagrenz against some fog monster. UM, BT, and some others took a rather nasty beating. Chazz is building up a huge ork WAAAAGH. A planet named Gallor Prime is completely dead, like being sent to the warp and back dead. My Iron Warriors are building up for a massive standoff against WK's Eldar, and anything else that looks fun to kill. I probably missed some stuff, but that's everything off the top of my head.

Well. My Ultramarines and Jhe's Templars just got done clearing the planet of Kagrenz from some strange fog beasts, but we took a horrific beating in doing so. There was also a huge dust up on a planet called Gailor Prime that eventually ended in the planet getting briefly sucked into the warp. And at the moment a standoff is building between my Eldar and 2BJ1's Iron Warriors (no real fights yet, but his Iron Warriors are the reason why my Eldar are in the system to begin with). I'd recommend looking back a page or two when Kharne the Befriender joined in so you can see who is running what forces in this campaign. Oh, and get a hold of Smudge so that he knows you're interested. Can't wait to see how you bring in your Nids. Welcome to the Crusade!

I'm getting the final bits of my next post sorted out now. Sorry I've been delayed in doing it, my SO and I have been very busy, so I've been held up there, but I want to get this done ASAP.
Benlisted, glad to have you here, I'll respond to your PM in all due haste!
And, as it has been requested, a TL;DR of what is going on:
Imperium has pushed into a previously lost sector of space, the Charadon sector. They were initially met along the way by Chaos, daemons, Orks and multiple other threats in the area. A Chaos related relic was discovered on a planet called Mogrok, which caused a clash between Deathwatch and Iron Warrior forces. The relic was a decoy, with the original stolen by a Chaos warband called the Remnants. The Deathwatch, bloodied and beaten, ridded the world of taint by Exterminatus.
All forces were made aware that the relic itself allowed a mythical vault on the world of Gallor Prime to be opened. The Imperium, Waaagh! Grinbad, the Remnants and Iron Warriors, and the newly arrived Eldar forces all conquered their way to Gallor Prime, and a brutal land war was waged. This conflict was culminated by the forces discovering the location of the vault in the southern pole of the planet, and racing to stop the others getting it. In the end, it came down to the Imperials against the Orks. The Imperial effort was in vain, as Grinbad opened up the vault, and plunged Gallor Prime into the warp briefly.
Grinbad's forces moved on to the Cadian sector, using their newly-gained power to krump 'eads.
However, for those not in the Waaagh!, the event lasted for days, months, even years.
The Imperial forces commanders managed to escape the nightmarish hell of Gallor Prime, all bar Commissar Gavor, who had seen enough of the long war and vanished to be with his wife, and Acting-Captain Aurelius, who was critically injured after being stranded in a tide of daemon spawn. He was saved at the last minute by the Remnants, who showed great interest in the Ultramarine, and returned him to Imperial lines.
After the battle, Gallor was left desolate and the crusade moves on.
- One of the generals is not content with his position, and wishes to usurp the Lord General's place, hiring assassins to kill him off, a plot foiled by Aurelius, raised from the jaws of death.
- Ultramarine and Black Templar forces have been heavily depleted by a campaign on the mysterious world of Kagrenz.
- New Order forces are currently prosecuting a war against Tau on the heavily fortified world of Julla.
- A new Waaagh! is rising in the East, led by a biker boy who rides a warbike infused with the warp itself.
- The Iron Warriors were scattered to a world located in a nearby Warp Rift, which they fortified and recently solidified their hold by killing the largest prey on the world, a sea leviathan.
- The Eldar swore to hunt down the Iron Warriors leader, and are currently trying to find a way to reach them through the unstable warp rift.
- Necron forces have awoken in the Western front, and seem intent on suicide-bombing aircraft into other armies.
- The Remnants remain as elusive as ever.
And something approaches from the West...

Post-Mortem Autopsy Report #001 on Unidentified Xeno Specimen (Colloquial Term - Fog Creature)
Chief Investigator: Magos Biologis Stefan Pard Time of Autopsy: 16.54 - 13.12.15.41 Safety Procedure: ACTIVE Equipment Type: Xenos Inconfirmatus Witnesses: Adept Biologis Rychi, Adept Biologis Faulkner, Adept Biologis Barnder, Servitor Model #61801
My Lords,
The corpse you offer me is... intriguing. The good Captain Julius is correct: psy-synaptic links exist in the spinal cord, although limited in potential. It would appear that this allows a form of telekinesis around agitated vaporous particulates, allowing for manipulation of fog and cloud formations. The creature's head/body mass ratio indicates a low level of actual sentience as reported by Imperial forces in the field, so my estimate would be a form of endocrine or psychic emission co-ordinating attacks in such a way. Judging from the high presence of water vapour as reported on Kagrenz, and the existence of psy-receptive nervous fibre, I deem the latter to be the case.
The skin is incredibly thin, and allows for excellent diffusion of gas-based substance through it. It also note the absence of lung cavity in such a creature. In fact, I feel that the creature has evolved a superb level of respiration retention rates, and instead passes waste gas out of the skin, rather than develop a lung cavity. The skin of the creature is very weak, but has plenty of redundant systems within. I notice that when exposed to overwhelming stimuli, the effector muscles do not react differently over a certain threshold - roughly 197 Del. This could be a form of insulation and advanced shut-off myelin sheathing of the nervous tissue.
Claws, talons and remains of tooth structure do show alarming bonding similar to Genestealer keratinous material, able to pierce power and Terminator plate without effort, due to multiple layers of monomolecular sheets of keratin-like tissue. Lithe muscular systems show a preference of speed over raw strength. The presence of multiple limbs aids in reduncancy, with a prehensile appendage (tail) providing balance should a limb be removed.
In short, the creature seems to show alarming similarity to Tyranid Genestealer-genus lifeforms. Lethal close-quarters power, rudimental psychic capability, inhuman durability and redundant systems, and the general profile, despite a 33% increase in size.
However, when bonding was attempted between tissue sample of each, neither tissue recognised the other, a phenomena not seen in other Tyranid tissue transplants.
I feel that this new threat is... was the remnants of a Hive Fleet. But something changed them, altered them to have some kind of rudimental control over fog and water vapour. I would guess that a form of terraforming takes place when a Matriarchal figure nests on a world, chemically detaching oxygen dihydride molecules from the atmosphere and agitating them, causing a vast terraformation of the host planet.
Why this is the case, and for what cause, is beyond me.
As per standard Tyranid genus autopsies, the specimen has been incinerated in the ship's plasma reactor.
REPORT CONCLUDED
-------------------------------
Acting-Captain Aurelius stared into space.
The Telesto's Wrath was a nice enough ship. The crew gave the Astartes a wide enough berth, and to date, only fifteen crewmen had stared at him in awe.
It was, as Aurelius noted, a new record.
According to Imperial scanners, Rockston's Fall was meant to be up ahead. Only, it wasn't. Desiccated detrius and debris now littered the empty space in the void where Rockston's Fall used to be. Aurelius wasn't too confused. Unexpected gravitational anomalies could occur, the planet may have drifted into space, or even a Warp anomaly could've swallowed the planet. But the loss of the Lorenz Fidelis was more than a coincidence. Both the planet, and the ship? There was something wrong, and Aurelius would find out.
He stayed at the bridge, only looking away from the pexiglass window to accept a bowl of mushroom broth from a serf. The ship still got closer, yet nothing revealed itself to them.
One of the comms officers aboard the bridge called over the ship's captain.
"We're getting a signal. Emergency broadcast, short range. It bears the standard broadcasting sigil of the Lorenz Fidelis. Do we respond?"
The captain wasted no time, and barked orders to her subordinates.
"Yes! Crew, prepare to relocate to designated co-ordinates. We've found them! We've found the Fidelis!"
The bridge was a throbbing centre of activity, as crewmen scattered to their posts, reinvigorated. Only Aurelius remained stationary, his eyes glued to the stars. The ship weaved into a small asteroid cluster, and it's high-intensity lights pierced the twisting shadows. The Acting-Captain's eyes roamed the asteroid maze.
'This isn't good.' he thought. 'It's too enclosed. Too vulnerable. Perfect for an ambush.'
Finally, the Telesto's Wrath rounded past an asteroid, and a hulk of broken metal drifted lazily in a clearing.
Savage rents and tears were present all over it, across the flanks and rear. Puncture holes dotted across the top and bottom. Whatever happened, it had utterly scrapped the Lomez Fidelis.
"Pull back." Aurelius turned to the captain. "Pull back now."
She shot him a look of confusion.
"This is our quarry. We're here to find their ship, and find out what happened."
"And you will, if we don't get out. Now."
She began to grumble, but before she could utter another word, the ship's scanners burst into life. Dozens of voices across the bridge called out in alert.
"Motion detected!"
"Movement from all angles!"
"There's something out there."
Aurelius snarled in anger, and ran to the speaker horn on the captain's desk.
"This is Acting-Captain Aurelius. Divert all power to engines, get us out of here! Drop shields to get power! Ramming force authorised!"
His words had an electric effect, and the ship shot ahead, crashing through an asteroid as they broke through the gravity well. As the crew scrambled in panic, Aurelius turned his gaze to the rearward scanner screen.
His hearts stopped beating for a moment. He clasped his hand to his chest and murmed a short catechism. He dragged the captain over with a huge hand, and whispered into her ear.
"Don't stop." He growled. "Get us into comms of Crusade Command. Don't ask why. And don't look back."
-------------------------------
Behind the fleeing Telesto's Wrath, countless ships inched closer, their pale chitinous hulls stark against the inky black space. They stretched as far back as Aurelius cared to look, bobbing and weaving across eachother.
Without warning, four words formed in the Ultramarine's mind. Four words echoed subconsciously in Aurelius's mind.
"The Deep has come."
-------------------------------
Kagrenz burned in the void.
Even the milky white fog clouds couldn't hide the incandescent fires raging below. The Imperial troops had put Kagrenz to the torch, incinerating the diseased trees that were pumping out chemicals into the atmosphere. Stragglers and outlying dens of fog creatures were hunted down and executed by experienced squads of Fog Hunters. These squads were composed of the least injured Guardsmen units, usually led by a Space Marine from either the Ultramarines or the Black Templars. Together, they exterminated the creatures without mercy, and without remorse. Kagrenz burned.
The Deep burns.
The Imperial forces on world were so enraptured with their hard-fought victory, and their huge losses, that they didn't pay any attention to the skies. Orbital scanners were now focused on hunting the fog creatures, and their once-vigilant gaze into the stars was turned away.
The Deep advances in the darkness.
By the time the Imperial forces had returned their eyes to the heavens, it was far too late.
Where once stars gleamed back at them, they were met by a swarm of diseased white ships. Their jagged prows cut sharp and swiftly to Kagrenz, their number beyond count. Behind the smallest vessels at the front, larger ships, the size of Imperial Battle Barges, plied the void, looming ominously toward the planet.
Yet even these leviathans of space were outsized, dwarfed by the titanic bulk of the largest ship. This one may as well have been a small moon, for the size it was - even the semi-mythical Warpath Furnace would find itself shadowed by the vessel.
And within each ship's labyrinthine tubes and atria, millions of creatures lay dormant, readying for the harvest of the Sky. Their pulsating, barely beating hearts could be seen through their wafer thin flesh, lining the walls of their biological catacomb. They were suspended by glistening wet cords of myelin and spindle fibre, arrested in temporary hibernation. The actual walls of the chamber were obscured by the teeming mass of dormant creatures, waiting to be released.
The Deep will drown the Sky.
Imperial response was unusually quick. The high concentration of Crusade forces on the Western front had prompted action. Due to the rapid reaction from Lord General Zonand, a decision was reached in minutes. The forces deployed on Kagrenz would never be able to hold out against the oncoming swarm, their losses were too great.
Only one option remained: sacrifice what had cost so much blood to cleanse, and escape. All Imperial forces stationed on Kagrenz were required to evacuate, as quickly as possible.
At first, the decision was met with anger. Captain Julius of the Ultramarines and Acting-Marshal Ivan of the Black Templars were loathe to abandon what the Crusade had put so much effort in. However, with the rapid withdrawal of the last Faustian regiments, taking away most of the manpower the bloodied force had left, the commanders were left with no choice. As the last dropship left the dying planet, the first of the fog creatures landed their clawed talons on the dead soil. In minutes, the fog once again drowned the world, and the caves were full of xenos once again. The crusade's revenge was swift and incandescent.
Two-stage seismic charges had been deployed by the last few men on world, and as soon as the fleet were out of range, detonated them. Kagrenz split, the very crust severed. The magnetic field was shredded apart, dissipating the fluid-rich atmosphere. The second warhead broke open Kagrenz like an egg, the molten mantle fluid spewing out, before solidifying. The pale white corpses of millions of Fog Creatures drifted away, like snowflakes in the winter wind, and Kagrenz splintered like a broken eggshell.
Where Kagrenz used to be, only death and the xenos fleet remained. Their pale white husks sifted through the debris cloud, feeder tendrils probing the rocks and pulling them in. In the distance, the Imperial ships limped away, beaten, bloodied, and thirsty for revenge.
War unending had arrived.

Archarus sat once more on his throne, but now had an Eldar chained to it to keep him company. The xenos one eye missing, and one leg shattered. The Warsmith had held off from doing any extreme torture on the alien, for now.
"She will kill you." The Eldar spat.
Archarus turned to face the speaker, and let loose a burst of laughter.
"Your witch? Even Rahsal the Renegade was more of a threat, and he couldn't lasted an hour under my wrath."
Before Archarus' taunting could get into full swing, a prefect, an overseer of the slaves, emerged from the door, and addressed the Warsmith.
"Lord of Iron, I beg you forgive my intrusion, but I bring great news." He squeaked. "We have another offering of slaves, and this comes from not the orks, but a xeno I have not heard of. They ask for a cease fire, and perhaps cooperation of forces, and in return they will give as much Flesh as we need."
Archarus was silent, and the prefect was certain he would be shot. At last, the Warsmith answered, "If they can send Flesh first, then I will trust them. For now, I want you to go to Oracheis and have him find the sender of the message. And have him tell these xenos that I will be willing to cooperate, if they hold true to their promises."
The prefect nodded, before scurrying away, happy to not have been killed for his interruption.
Spoiler:
So Archarus won't trust the necrons entirely, not until he sees some results first. Maybe Oracheis (tech obsessed Iron Warrior inspired by Oriax from the Siege of Castellax) can show some information of the crons, maybe some history that this dynasty tends to be true to its word, so diplomacy can progress.

Plus, what's the point of a planet capable of destroying ships and moons when no one will attack it? My plans are to make the death star look bad with how much firepower will be on this thing.

It is each to their own. Plus, by isolating themselves, they still have a major problem: any targets of opportunity come or relics, they'll be unable to attack. To get to them, Gondorf's Passage must be taken, and the Eldar need to gain allies to have the manpower to do it.

I just want to point out we never explicitly agreed to Archarus dying, just to your Eldar targeting him. I can understand any misinterpretations, but I was under the assumption that we would be trading blows, yet I did not assume Archarus' life was forfeit to your Eldar. I'm all for epic duels and battles, and I also want to get some use out of a planet that makes orks cry tears of joy at how much dakka it has. That doesn't mean I wipe out someone's entire fleet or anything, but to have it just sit there and look cool seems like a lot of work that lead to nothing on my part.
My apologies for what looks like a rant, and my point is that we can work something out, but I'm not a fan of having Archarus step out his front door and get killed right away.

I didn't mean I wanted to kill Archarus at all 2BJ1. The only thing is at the moment I can't do anything to your forces at all. The one way I can get to you is so far into demon territory on Gondorf's Passage it isn't even funny. I'm just frustrated because the main reason why I brought in my Eldar was because of your Iron Warriors, and right now I can't even get at them. You know what? Let's actually work something out, PM me and we can figure out how the IW and Eldar can actually meet and start fighting. There are many grudges the Eldar have to avenge

I was expecting actual slaves, which Iron Warriors refer to as Flesh. I might be able to do something with some living tyranids, such as attempt to have daemons possess them or other mind control. (Which I might steal ideas from an old thread in the Background forum)

Captain Tom Reiner was on a simple clean up run with a squad of Faustians and Brother Sargent Percival of the Templars. Squads of Faustians armed with flamers rolled through the xeno tainted jungle purging anything organic. Each Guardsmen wore hostile environment rebreathes to avoid breathing in whatever these things might release when they are burned. Lieutenant Jarerk spoke to the Captain through his breather, his voice augmented “Did you here about Commissar Sheppard and Knight Captain Petra sir?” Reiner shrugged “No, what?” “Word is the knight captain is pregnant.” Tom gave a muffled laugh “That’s great, bastard better name me godfather.” Sargent Percival spoke “The Sheppards continue to serve this crusade even out of the flames of battle, they have been invaluable to moral.” The party moved on destroying all life they came across. There were still some creatures on the planet that seemed benign like toads and rodents, but it was better safe then sorry. The trees made a whistling noise when they began to burn. Between the whistling and the roar of promethium tanks little else could be noticed.
Guardsmen Cortez the squads Vox specialist spoke to to Captain Reiner “Sir, I’ve picked up an urgent transmission from crusade command, I’ll patch it to you and Sargent Percival." Static reigned in the Captain’s ear for a moment before the words transmitted “The Deep Has Come.” Reiner ordered the flamers to halt, he spoke confused “The Deep has come the feth is that supposed to mean.” Sargent Percival let the words echo in his mind before he spoke, he looked to the sky and with the help of his superior vision and helmeted assistance he saw them like stars of flesh begin to fall from the heavens. The Templar spoke grimly “We must leave, now.” The captain asked “Why what’s happening.” The Templar pointed to the sky as the ships came into the guardsmen’s’ view “The Deep is here.”
The squad raced as fast as they could back to the Faustian Forward operating base. The pods crashed to the planets surface with the fury of a meteor strike. One pod landed only ten feet in front of the party. The sack of white flesh and puss erupted and from it dozens of instectoid beast spilled forward. Lieutenant Jarerk shoutd “Sweet throne, what are those things.” Percival shouted “Hormagaunts make ready.” The guardsmen let loose with their fountains of flames and most of the beasts were dispatched, but one of the creatures leapt over its kin and avoided the hell fire. The beast landed on top of Lieutenant Jarerk and with its talons ignoring the man’s flakk armor tore him apart. Percival pried the beast off the man and threw it to the side unleashing a blast from his bolt pistol into him. Jarerk was still alive, though his chest cavity was open, and there was no way he could be moved in this condition. Percival quickly but a Bolt through his head and shouted “Keep moving.” Reiner hesitated before snapping back into it “You heard him, Move!” The retinue of ruffians continued their retreat until they eventually reached the fort, though over half of the ten-man squad they started with didn’t make it. Most of the other Faustain companies had made it back. They had established a 100-meter kill zone perimeter, around the base. But every few hours they lost a meter. Reiner ordered all the men of his company to set their las guns to quarter charge.
Nine hours after initial planet fall. Evacuations were well under way. The first thing to get evacuated were the knight’s horses, Tom wanted to be angry they evacuated the horses before they evacuated people, but The Faustian knights were to be among the last evacuated. Their code was odd to Tom, they followed it even at times like this, the gravest of emergencies and they still protect their mounts first and them selves last. After the horses were gone they began evacuating the companies. With each company gone the horde of beast drew closer and closer. Even though the The Faustian regiments began evacuating long before both the Templars and Ultramarines, the two chapters of astartes had already found their way off world, not having nearly as many men to evacuate as the legions of Faustians. They deployed squads of space marines and Storm Ravens to help the Faustians with the emergency evacuation. Eventually Most of the Guardsmen were off and only Reiner and first legion of Faustian knights remained. Knight Lord Tennyson had insisted that Reiner’s Ruffians go before his knights. But at the request of Brother Sargent Diomedes who had become incident commander here at The Faustian Fortress The knights should evacuate first, as the wall of las fire the Ruffians would provide was far more helpful then the close combat skills of the Faustian knights. Reluctantly the ancient lord agreed. Soon enough the knights were off and all that remained was Reiner’s Ruffians and the handful of Templars and Ultramarines.
The horde perimeter had shrunk down to only ten meters and was shrinking every minute. The entrenched guardsmen began depleting their charge packs even with the quarter charge setting. Soon the beasts were so close their razor teeth and beady soulless eyes were unmistakable. Then the first of them made it to the wall, flamers destroyed these trail blazers but soon enough they were replaced by even more creatures. Finnaly the beasts mantled the wall and began tearing into the guardsmen that were stationed on the bulwark. At that moment the final evac ship arrived. Reiner shouted out on his com bead “Reiner to all squad leaders, disengage and make way to the shuttle. Delta and Bravo squad provide covering fire.” All the men of the 11th began racing for their only hope of survival, astartes covering them as mobs of Hormagaunts chased them down.
One of the creatures stood between Tom and the shuttle, the captain’s las pistol was out of charge so he was forced to rely on his chain-sword. The beast came at him with its twin scythe appendages, but Reiner blocked with his blade. Tom grabbed one of the beast’s limbs and severed it with his weapon. The creature gave a feral scream and struck at the captain with its remaining arm. Tom caught the blow, but the creature bit tom on his left forearm. The pain was excruciating but Reiner saw an opportunity to finish the beast. Reiner struck at the creature’s exposed mid section and revved the chain blade through the chink in the beast carapace. The beast clamped down harder on the captain’s arm but Reiner kept the sawing. The xeno blood and gore coated the captain as the blade made its final gory exit. The creature was dead and it unclamped from the captain’s arm. Reiner saw the shuttle and forced himself to continue to head for it.
Finnaly Reiner was aboard the vessel and squads Delta and Bravo entered their escape vessel. As the shuttle took off Reiner took a final look at the carnage below. Entire squads of guardsmen were left behind beams of las fire went dark as the encroaching horde surrounded the men who fired them. Men waved to the shuttle begging them to wait, only to find themselves the victim of the xenos hunger. The Ultramaines and Templars were the last to pull out. They had all reached their respective thunder-hawks except for one. Sargent Percival of the Templars remained the beasts crawled up and onto his his carapace, one struck his power pack and soon many others swarmed on top of him. That was the last thing Reiner saw before the fortress was an a spec out his window in a sea of shifting xeno carapace.
