So could someone explain me why Jain Zarr is supposed to be bad enough to be GWs ugliest current model, while Maugan Ra somehow is supposed to be a great model?

Asking seriously here. One is dynamic and rather sleek, while the other is more static and lumpy.

Jain just looks derpy with the weird face and hair and the terrible proportions.

I don't really like any of the Phoenix Lord models.

Jain looks like Goth 80's turned up to 9000. Nothing there looks any good, or makes any sense.

But she IS goth 80s turned up to 1997 or whenever the model was released. I dont think its the ugliest model there is; she is supposed to look like a troll face, like harlequinns.

That being said, I cant really see how some can claim vostroyans are the ugliest there is either (i've seen critisisms of them elsewhere too), They are some of the finest metal models GW made.

The Phoenix Lords universally have absurdly oversized helmets (often as large as the rest of the model), which is my main gripe with them.

Other than that, some of them are actually pretty cool.

I should think of a new signature... In the meantime, have a

Can I spare a moment of your time to talk about XV 8 crisis suits and XV 25 stealth suits? One is a good idea but modeled crappily and the other is an ugly design but modeled well.

Which one's which?

To me, they both look like they're made from lego.

Crisis suit was a good concept but the model has aged like milk, whilst the stealth suit is an ugly design that isn't horribly modeled.

While I didn't like the Crisis Suits, they've kind of grown on me, and I think the Commander is just fine but the normal ones are just too boxy, and could use a minor rework. I like the new Stealth Suits a lot actually, they actually look like complicated stealth technology, and give me a real feel of something interesting on a machinery level. I think that's why I like both, they look robotic, which is cool with me, but yea the Crisis Suit needs to be less stout and boxy.

I'll pluck you like a flower.

The Crisis suits to me look fine from the knee up.

But then it goes down to the thinnest legs balancing on tip toes.
Throw in all the weight from the jetpack strapped to it and it looks like the unit has no ability to stand on it's own unless the Jetpack is running constantly. Same issue with the Riptide and the Broadside.

With the Broadside it's worse because there doesn't seem to be any way that thing can "walk" on such tiny ankles and on it's tip toes no less.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

They actually fixed both of our issues in the newer versions of the Suits, such as the Commander and Broadside.

They gave both of them a waist, as it displays them in the art, so they don't look like a refrigerator on legs. Then they also beefed up the legs a bit, and even gave the Broadside some little pistons on the back of their feet for added stability.

The legs look better at least, but I just can't stand the overall design.

For a race with advanced drone tech, that is an incredibly backhanded way to field a railgun. Just doesn't look right to me.

The taurox, designed by someone who has evidently never seen a tracked vehicle before. And the cool guns that shoot the disembarking passengers.

In fact anything guard that has tracks is fail by GW. No suspension, narrow tread and more often than not no incline.

Apart from that, space marine flyers are awful, flying bricks. The valk looks cool but heaven knows how it flies.

In terms of goofy stupid, probably old what's his face wolf Santa on the wolf sleigh of wolfmas. But then I have a soft spot for goofy awesome, like Goff rockers and the Lord of skulls.

That... thing. Personally, if I got one for free, I'd build it, hit it with a hammer, and use it as terrain.

The Baneblade variant have suspension. I really like most of the IG vehicles (especially the Macharius), and the only thing stopping me from getting more is that they're so damn expensive, and are usually massively overcosted (Superheavies especially).
Apart from that, space marine flyers are awful, flying bricks. The valk looks cool but heaven knows how it flies.
Valkyries aren't SM, and they do have an understandable method. They are VTOL Jets, using the jets on the underside of the wings to gain lift (though they're waaay too small, and there needs to be a third one).

People focus so much on realistic flight/tank tread designs in a sci-fi universe that is supposed to be 38,000 years fin the future. We can try apply our real-world physics to their tiny flying brick winglets (storm raven) but motorcycles on low gravity moons is fine .

Aesthetically I'll jump on the Dreaknight baby carrier train, the thing gets a giggle out of me whenever I see it... Until it shunts in my grill and drops flamers all over my CSM.

A good question would be. "Which models have seriously made you want to quit 40k".

My list is short: Dreadknight, Knight, Wraitknight, Centurion, Space Wolves Santa clause carriage.

As I said earlier in this thread, THE NEMESIS DREADKNIGHT IS NOT A BABY CARRIER! Here is a Dreadknight:

Here is the probable inspiration for the model:

Here is something else that this inspired:

Actually I think the Dreadknight model precedes Avatar by a couple of years, but the concept of a walking machine that amplifies the human body is far from new. I don't play Grey Knights, but I will defend the Dreadknight model as it is one of the coolest in the Grey Knights range. Honestly, I would love to see a Dreadknight conversion with an enclosed cockpit like the Avatar AMP suit. That would be cool, and no one would be screaming "Baby Carrier!" any more.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Hey man. I can take huge mechas that by all rights should collapse under their own weight. I can take psychic ninja ghost robots armed with reality tearing guns. But them Leman Russes and their non-existent suspension? Oh man that's crossing the line right there immersion broken.

+1 for the Dreadknight. It was doing the "Space Marine Inside of a Space Marine" thing before it was cool.
