Since the 'Sue' complaints and disagreement has been discussed to death I will talk about the rest of the movie.

I did actually like kylo ren very much. Yes he's emo but that works for a bad guy. It helps us dislike him a bit and make him a bad guy you can dislike like his daddy issues. It's like if annoying Anakin just skipped up to the darth vader scene. Not to mention he just seems infinitely cooler with the mask on. He also never killed his officers to my knowledge. Darth vader probably killed more imperial officers than all rebel assassins combined which really hurt imperial leadership in my opinion and thus would only lead to more officers being force choked (which frankly is such an absurd method of punishment since officers take time and training and you tend to want your brains to be alive and loyal enough). The new force powers were also pretty freaking cool. We've seen the light side do mental suggestions but the dark side is forcing info out of people which is very cool (the dark side tends to be less subtle but I've never seen something that could be used outside of battle like torture and it totally works with the dark side). I don't think anybody should really call kylo ren a noob (low skill level) for all the powers we have thus far seen. I mean he has displayed the ability to stop blaster shots mid-flight which is a massive step up from deflecting them with your light saber. The other new power suggests he's more than just a fighter as well.

Also as much as people complain about the no women or often minorities as decent star wars character let me discuss something else. How many women, minorities and even aliens end up being the bad guys in star wars? For aliens it's mostly the crime lords and maybe thrawn (even if expanded universe is now non-canon). Look at the imperial side in the original trilogy or either of the 2 warring faction in the prequels. Do you see any women on the bad guys sides? The answer is no. This movie changed that as well. Sure women can be the hero but they can also be bad guys. Funny thing is the main baddies are still emo white guys but whatever. At least Finn's unit commander was female (and enjoys chrome and copying boba fett's style) and some various random pilots and such were female (rebels and I think 'first order' both had this). I'm thankful that to an extent we've at least accepted if you can have women as the main good guys then you can have them as bad guys too (something star wars fans never discuss). I'm taking a wild guess it's because the older audience used to have issues with violence against women but clearly everything was negative towards women in 'star wars' *rolls eyes* (at least according to some).

Honestly, it's just standard SJW complaining, posturing and hijacking of established franchises. It's what they do. Like female space marines.

Stupidest complaint award candidate right here. And have we already forgotten Mara Jade as badass female villain?

She turned good and it's EU which is now not canon. Also the books don't have to do with the movies which once again are canon.

This is the chrome lady right? God considering she looks like boba fett I certainly hope she doesn't act like him too (i.e. trip over banana peels and fall into a sarlacc pitt when it's finally time for him to shine).

Wait a second they said that didn't they? Or am I wrong here?

Gotta make you think how minor of a bad guy she is then. That's kinda lame.

Gonna take a wild guess she was turned into a bunch of aluminum cans with somebody playing that 'wahp, wahp, waawawawawa' music signaling how humorous this is.

Could've been worse. She could've ended up like batman in that robot chicken episode where he's crawling through the sewer line and being crapped on by the joker.

"Woo woo! Green mile try walking the brown mile! *joker laughs*"

Starts at about 1:23 where it happens. May not be appropriate for work.

Coincidental that mark Hamill is in that too. Sad that mark Hamill was in that robot chicken episode longer than he was in 'the force awakens'. Hopefully episode 8 changes that.

After the pathetic show he put on and the fact he was only res'd by fans I'm just going to say he died. Seriously boba fett should've committed seppuku to restore his honor after that or more reasonably just stayed eaten by a giant immobile man-eating venus fly trap and/or possible lady parts with teeth creature.

Much as fans love boba fett for him doing absolutely nothing worthwhile in the movies I have to say this pleases me. What a terrible character. Sure he sounds awesome but what you can do matters more than how you look. Note this means even if jar jar was actually a good at fighting and awesome at leadership we'd probably like him and it'd be deserved. I suppose yoda is the more likely comparison. Yoda is small yeah but he floats luke's x-wing out of the marsh like it's nothing.

True but he wouldn't have existed without the weird fan love of boba fett's character. Funny how in a sense son made daddy even if son was just a clone.

Just a point - the Mandalorian flag was flying at Maz's place. With the rest of the EU disregarded, the only use of that flag in the films is the Fetts. Odd that they'd be flying Fetts banner at that place if he's been dead for 40 years.

edit - also, he'd be at least in his 60s. If the Fett banner was flying for any reason other than fan service, he'd have passed the mantle onto another by now, or someone took it from him.

Boba Fett was only introduced in the prequels because George Lucas already ruined one character's backstory and now needed to ruin another one.

There was a multi-series sub plot in Clone Wars that dealt with Mandalore (and was excellent), so they do have more canon presence than just the Fetts. The series ended before it was properly resolved, but in Rebels
Spoiler:

Captain Rex mentions the Siege of Mandalore, suggesting the Republic eventually deployed troops to oust the Deathwatch terrorist faction that had taken over (in alliance with the Black Suns, the Hutts, various other crime syndicates and Darth Maul)

So there are more options for Mandalorian characters than just Getting, though with the age of Maz's palace the flag could have just as easily been in reference to the Fetts when they were alive, and just not taken down.

Echoing one of the posts above me, Mandalorians are in the canon again because of the Clone Wars series (it's some of the best stuff from the show and features an awesome battle between Sidious and Maul).

EDIT: I'm pretty sure a character on Rebels is Mandalorian as well.

Well we were talking about female baddies in 'The Force Awakens'. Does anybody think we'll get any in episode 8? I sure hope we get at least one halfway decent female villain. Captain Phasma was pretty much nothing special.

Yeah, I'm still watching season 1 of rebels but the character of Sabine at the very least was from the "Imperial Academy on Mandalore" - not necessarily saying she's Mandalorian but...

I had something else to type here on another subject but I've forgotten it... It was on topic and relevant though...

We need more main female baddies. That's my only complaint. If women can be the main hero they can be various villains including main villains too. If we're in a world that accepts women as the main hero were in one that can accept a woman as the main villain too. Not saying there haven't been any in other movies and media but star wars is more absent of women and the new movies kinda kept them out of the bad guy list. I think there was only one bad guy that was a minority (finn) and he turned good almost instantly. I've just always found it odd nobody really complained about bad guys being only white men (or aliens) and whatever the eff snoke is.

Yeah, Phasma certainly felt as just an introduction to the character, so that in future films people don't need to go, "so who's that then?"

Yeah hopefully Phasma does more than be a little douchey to an individual storm trooper in the next one. Although she didn't hesitate to pull the trigger on a village massacre in the first 10mins..
Also, I thought General Hux was pretty ballsy toward Kylo Ren considering he could have been choked to death or worse at any time. Hopefully we'll see some repercussions of that attitude later.
Also, those of you mumping about the lack of force awesomeness are clearly forgetting that Kylo freezes a blaster shot and holds it there. That's a lot of skill on display.

I just hope she doesn't suck. The whole reason I brought up boba fett to this conversation is I hope she doesn't mirror him and disappoint us entirely. Hopefully star wars can have a good female bad guy in the canon. So far she got captured and it almost sounds like she got turned into a bunch of tin cans. I'm more surprised if she does live. I mean not only did she live the trash compactor but got out of the star killer base before it blew up too? Seriously Han was impaled and fell down an air vent. I would say it's similar to Luke getting his hand cut off and falling down an air vent in cloud city but nobody was there to rescue han, he was impaled, he called out to nobody with the force unlike luke and the whole freaking base blew up. Also he sets up Ray to help him pilot the Millenium Falcon and adds some touching moments which generally leads to 'Wouldn't it be so sad if this character died right now? Oh wait whoops." moments.

Seeing that TFA's main villain is a whiny teenager, I'd embrace any sort of real villain.

More of a secondary. He's basically Anakin and looks up to him without us watching several movies dealing with his turn to the dark side. I'm sure it's not as big of a deal since Anakin was the chosen one and at two moments held the fate of the galaxy in his hands (both dealing with the emperor's life in the balance). That and the emperor are seriously the only decent parts of the prequels other than nice looking fights.

True but her introduction was terribly mishandled and she will forever be associated with Trash Compactors.

They should have introduced her by having her lead the raid on the Jakku village. We could have seen her in battle, rampaging through the village and ruthlessly executing villagers.

Maybe. It's one thing to kill something that's decent at fighting and another to just kill villagers that worry about 'ma gun rights!'. Ok maybe that's a failed joke. Still they aren't trained or experienced. Fighting rebels in combat would be more equivalent esp. now that the rebels are the actual government (the republic).

Yeah Phasma was in the raid but it wasn't massively noticeable.

Phasma suffered from the bad writing. It felt like Abrams wanted too much and couldn't focus. He added a lot of different elements and sadly, while also being interesting, this resulted in some character arcs being rushed (Rey and Finn) and some not having been shown nearly enough attention (Phasma). Isn't Phasma's actor the ugly woman from GoT?
