So who is pre-building a list and deploying it regardless of what your opponent deploys? Who's just making the army in real-time as you see your opponent's "moves"? Anyone going a middle path?

I always pre-build my lists, mostly because it's fairly easy for me to arrange to get a game at my gaming store beforehand

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

I think most of my group pre-build to an extent, but I think that will change over time once we've got a feel for things.

I'm a returning player with few models at the moment, so I'm fielding a pre-built list. I'm running Night Goblins, and have 10-12 Warscrolls, although only 8 or so that are really with fielding. The only thing I'm changing in real-time is the amount of models I'm putting out on the board as to avoid Sudden Death.

I'm pretty limited anyways, in keeping with Night Goblin fluff, so there's really not much I can put out there without repeating myself. My only placement 'tactic' now is to keep my monstrous creatures as far away from any shooting as possible.

3,500 (and building) ASM
3,000 Blood Angels
1500 Eldar (abandoned)

AoS - Beastclaw Raiders, Ironjawz, Night Goblins, and Ogors - Destruction remains unvanquished!

I usually got with wounds value, so I come in with a few lists (I got 2 75 wounds, a 100, a 125)

As we play points games, we pre-build. For us that is one of the charms of gaming...trying to build balanced but good lists over a week and then duking it out on the weekend

I prebuild, usually aiming for 80 wounds or so. I tend to just take what I like (I do like demon princes, as shown by having 10). I put one of those out, one Sorc (so I can summon more Khorne princes), one Lord (so I can call in reserves), and then a bunch of units and a Hellcannon.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I deploy in real time, as per the core rules. I have no issue with people who pre-build though. They're locked in to their lists and , if anything, playing against an opponent who pre-builds gives me the upper hand. I'm not locked into my lists and can make changes when I see what he's brought.

I also deploy real time.

Last game I played, my opponent deployed a 20 model Vampire Count army that was: Neferata on a Mortach, Terrorgiest, 10 Hexwraiths, 6 Vargeists, Vlad von Carstein, and a Vampire Lord.

As I had already given him Sudden Death with my 30 State Troopers, I decided to deploy my entire box (around 1,500pts of 8th) onto the board to even things out. Was a great game (I lost on the Sudden Death assassination in the end, but took out Neferata). Amd choosing to delpoy real time allowed me to modify my army on the fly and make it fun for both of us.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Generally, I build my army lists in advance with a tactics in mind.
Reacting to the enemy army hardly allows to think about your tactics.

That entirely depends on how well you know your units.

I usually have a few different list options available. I then start with deploying elements common to multiple builds first. Then I can tailor the synergies based on opponents deployment, but have a general idea of what would work well together in advance.
