I wasn't sure because if anybody has a negative opinion on it, then your thread gets sent to the "reviews and impressions" black hole. Meanwhile the maybe 10% of wargamers that like AOS are free to post whatever article they want about "why we don't need points".
This thread I'm creating will probably get deleted by mods or whoever is controlling the AOS propaganda filter on Dakka. But in case it gets through, I just want to say that it's important for people to bitch and complain. A lot of gamers are not happy with the changes to warhammer fantasy and if any GW employees were to browse Dakka from time to time, they would almost think that everyone loves AOS! This is not sending an accurate message of the reception of this new game.
So why say anything at all if you have nothing good to say? That's what our mothers always teach us right? Well, because when you invest a lot of money in a hobby and you follow it for many years then I think you have the right to stand up and say "this is crap". "This system is lazy and un-tested"!
Let me tell you that if AOS is going to get better I guarantee it will be from the people that are lighting fires! Not the Lemmings that just agree with everything that GW publishes and defends it without logic.

Of course you are.
What get's people's goats though is when someone jumps into a thread where AoS fans are chatting about their new game, and then constantly talks it down. It is just... impolite.
They get you do not like it. However, all they want to do is explore their new game, which requires discussion about models, armies and scenarios. Someone dumping on all that just destroys their fun.
How about putting your thoughts into a 'This is why i don't like AoS instead'? It will get replies...

Have you even bothered to read the forums? The AoS response is pretty mixed, and I doubt GW gives a damn what Dakka thinks since they have actual metrics to go by, i.e. sales.
Edit: I doubt your thread will last long though, not because you "don't like Age of Sigmar" but because you're not saying anything constructive. Next time maybe take MongooseMatt's advice, or post in reviews and opinions thread.

Yes, because everyone is buying AoS stuff for AoS....
A little bit of market research would be useful here. But such things are otiose apparently.

Oh rather than buying the free rules? Oh no, GW must be really concerned. Alternatively they could look at their book sales figures...
GW have had decades of experience in dominating the market, they know what you buy already. There's little that any "market research" could do. Most people play games, rather than talk about them on forums.

The idea what GW does or should pay any significant attention to DakkaDakka is pretty strange... There's under 8,000 people on the site currently, whether that's logged in, guests or just idle pages left open. Dakka is one of the larger 40K forums, but that's still not a huge enough piece of pie for GW to base any decision from. Unless they hired some poor intern to sift through comments and threads to glean any useful information from I can't imagine Dakka would give GW much more info.
Related to the AoS topic here, MongooseMatt hit it on the head. There's been a very mixed reception to AoS in the forums. The frustrating part is when threads get derailed by "haters" or "apologists" in each others respective threads.

I played one game with my buddy, played RAW and it sucked. One of the worst games I have ever played in my 40 years on this earth. My buddy shot at my spears and killed my models also he failed a charge but one model did not just because he had his weapon facing out front. It was pretty much meet in the middle and roll 3 and 4. Played about three rounds and we both agreed that was enough for both of us for a life time. The CIA should make terrorist play AoS just to torture them, it's that bad.

It's fine to say you don't like AoS. However, I think you should be more concerned about verbally attacking the mods: "mods or whoever controlling AoS propaganda". Mods [usually] do what they feel is the right call and try to cancel out spam. Occasionally Batman's venom-juiced sparring buddy comes out to play though.

Do you need a hug?
As a casual observer, I'd say that nearly all initial reaction has been negative, while actual gameplay reviews are mixed.
If you need to feel like a victimized bringer of truth, than rock it out, but its been about a month and frankly most people talking about AOS are people that actually want to talk about the game as a game.
I'm a firm believer that every person needs to handle the emotional upheaval of watching an army reduce in usefulness overnight in his own way, often through cathartic venting. However, that's no reason to make every thread about people's upset.

Yup you have a right to stand up and say you don't like it because x.
GW has made the decision to kill of whfb, so in not liking AoS it's probably time to move onto another system.
As to playing it once and griping about particular interactions in one battle, if that's all you need to get a real flavour of the game then so be it. So far my experian is its a deeper game than on the surface, not being able to connect a charge because you are too far away is nothing new, in whfb there was an arbitrary point to measure from and that was the model of the base, would you gripe if your base was 5mm away from an enemy once you completed a wheel? It's no different here, just the arbitrary point to measure from has changed.
I'd also note in the games I've had so far Ive never ended up in a big brawl in the middle and if anything that is no different to whfb, move towards each other and have a scrap in the middle. My experian centre of AoS is it is a more dynamic game, easier to shift around the board and gain a beneficial position.

Can I just mention someone used this thread to describe 40k 1st edition as challenging in its simplicity!?
We talking rogue trader? Because I remember that game very differently and couldn't imagine a world where imperial robots, death world charts and RPG characteristics can be compared to AoS (which i don't mind!)
Just saying!

My initial reaction was like almost everybody else's - what the **** is this!
Then I played it once...and didn't particularly like it... "but hey we got Kings of War that just released their new rules so we're allright anyway"...let's just try it out a few more times to give it an even chance. Maybe even throw a few objectives in.
...
If you look at my signature, it's not hard to know that I do enjoy it ALOT now. My gaming group even laid our plans of Kings of War to rest because we enjoy the simple yet unexpectingly tactical game of AoS. Sure, we're creating balance for the game and maybe we shouldn't have to...but for us it feels like the best shot any GW game has of actually getting correct points set - points placed on units from community members around the world actually playing the game.

Let me tell you that if AOS is going to get better I guarantee it will be from the people that are lighting fires! Not the Lemmings that just agree with everything that GW publishes and defends it without logic. Way overdramatic, bruh. Be careful or DCDP (Dakka Corrupt Decency Police) will break into your house and arrest you for negativity! You made a sarcastic, angry radical thread looking for, what, support from other angry people? You want people to stand up from their folding chairs and yell how you are right and that they hate it too like at community meetings in american movies? You want to have a little circle -you-know-what with everyone agreeing with you? Look at it this way - you may say that you don't like something, of course. You have the right to state your opinion, even if it's stupid (I am not calling your opinion on this stupid, just saying that there's freedom of speech). You can say that you don't like the game. Okay. You said it. Do you feel the need to repeat it? Do you want to preach it? Do you want to shove it down others' throats? We know you don't like it, we would know if you posted a "I don't like AoS" wherever, there's no need for you to write it anywhere else - you already said it. Now look at this situation: a couple guys are discussing something. Maybe even positively. And there comes the d-bag who had no real reason to comment in that thread and has nothing of value to add to the discussion, but he decides to gak all over the game they seem to like and is hell-bent on ruining their enjoyment of the game. He is not discussing anything, he just says he hates it and that it's terrible. That's an opinion. If there's a category for such posts, it should be there. Also saying that people bitching will magically change the game for the better is one of the hugest piles of gak I've ever read on this forum. Saying "this sucks" has no value whatsoever. Be constructive. Say something more, why do you hate it, how would you change it? Imagine this - you make a chair yourself. You sell it. Someone says "YOUR CHAIR IS gakky, I BET YO STUPID ASS DIDN'T SIT ON IT!". What do you make of it? Ask him personally what's wrong? Probably. As a giant company, though? Not happening. Not with every crying whiner out there. Now imagine someone saying this: "I don't like this chair - the backrest should have been a bit higher to be more comfortable and that bar there, which is unnecessary, makes those chairs impossible to stack - it would be good if not for those issues". Do you see the difference? Someone actually tells you what's wrong, and if you get enough complaints like that, you might consider fixing those flaws, beacause if it's one person you might just assume that if noone else had such issues then it was just his preferences and not the quality of your work that made him comment like that. So, yeah, you want to not like the game AND be treated like a contributing, intelligent person who can be reasoned with and with whom one can discuss things? Be constructive with your criticism. Show that you're not just stupidly "against" claiming that the game is objectively terrible without any actual point to make. I assure you that people who are positive with this game will most gladly discuss things in polite manner and maybe even agree with you if your proposed solution seems plausible to them. But if you approach it with such drama, conspiracy theory and butthurt, then you should expect to be treated like someone who does things like that, simple. Edit: RexInvictus wrote:If you have to create your own points system, can you really say you're playing the same game as everyone else?
A lot of people who play Dungeons & Dragons make up their own rules on the go to suit their/their group's playstyles, and they still are playing D&D, even if modified. :-) Applies to basically every rpg system - very few people play with just the stock rules.

It's ok as long as I can tell you to stfu and quit freaking crying.
if only half the people who did nothing but cry about aos would change to some form of constructive criticism I think dakka would implode.
As soon as people realize all of the endless complaining isn't going to do squat the better off well be.

If whining's your thing, try Warseer. Seriously. Those guys have a *major* chubby for giving AoS flak.
That's why I've started frequenting Dakka more - if you think coverage on here is negative, you have no idea.
I've actually found a far better mid-ground here - those who dislike it either offer intelligent criticicism or make the odd pithy comment - rather than ensuring every other reply in a post is whining.. Those who like it seem happy.to discuss the perceived issues and accept that not everyone likes it.
Which is a lot better than plain stating that the only way people could like it is if they're brain damaged...
