Bah, haven't cut myself in at least a year with my razor.

Besides, you guys are missing the whole point. Proper hot water, whipping up your own lather with brush and soap, hot towel to the face, lather, shave, repeat, good aftershave (not this crap axe stuff for sissy boys), it's like a Man Spa. Most relaxing part of my day before I go to bed.

Even when I used a blade, shaving was always a chore. Although I will give you that it’s a nice feeling to have a proper shave. Not worth the effort, IMHO. The Wife also doesn’t really care either way, so I don’t need to shave to keep her happy.

I never shaved first or last thing in the day. Sharp objects near my face while tired always struck me as a bad idea.

I shave first thing in the morning so that I have that "I just fething shaved because I care" look. I don't like the 5 o'clock shadow look.

I think my current electric razor is a Remington. It's 4 years old, so I'm ready for a new one.

Gillette Fusion refills, 12 count: $36
Total: $47. Assuming you can go as low as 1 blade refill a week, that will last about three months. Less if you use more than one refill a week.

The fundamental problem with your math there is that most multi-blade cartridges last *much* longer than one week. I've never even heard of anyone going through more than one cartridge a week. Are we talking about Wookies or Sasquatches here?

I did my own math a while back when the Dollar Shave Club first started advertising. And while those replacement cartridges for my Fusion are stupidly expensive at face value, I found out that my cost per week or month really wasn't bad at all at the rate I go through them. And they do give me a really nice shave.

Maybe they can last longer than a week, but P&G wants you replacing them every week, that's where that math comes from. When I used to use them they lasted about a week, and I'm no wookie; I just have thick beard hairs.

I notice, however, that you didn't say how long one of them lasts for you before they start getting rough.

Either way, it is your money to spend/waste.

I use the middle level of DSC right now. I used preshave oil from Art of Shaving till it ran out. Looking at making my own as it was amazing on the outcome. Also use their aftershave lotion.

Use some shave soap and a brush.

I have to shave for school and some volunteer stuff I do. Switching away from cream in a can and replacing blades once a week really have helped. I have sensitive skin and always get razor burn. A hot shower and hot towel before and after I shave helps, but still is a constant battle.

But should they? When you switch out the dull, old one for a fresh blade, you notice how good it is? How long are you hanging on to dull blades when you should switch to a fresh one?

When I used blades I (being cheep in addition to lazy) didn’t switch out nearly as often as I should have. And got a lot of rough, crappy, irritating shaves because of that.

Single blade old school safety razor. The best money you will never spend.

THIS! I use a safety razor, circa 50's, and its been the best thing for my face ever. I get terrible razor bumps (on the accord of my delicate facial skin apparently) from using the multiblade razors. I have been using a safety razor for going on 2 years (different blades of course, same body) and not only is it A LOT cheaper than the multiblade razors, my face hasnt had a razor bump in most of that time.

They do take some getting used to, you dont use it like a multi-blade razor, and you can cut yourself a bit easier (honestly you have to try with the razors you get today) but totally worth it to me. For a quick shave I use a face gel (not the aerosol kind, this has oils and stuff in it to lubricate the skin) otherwise its a brush and some hot soap lather with a hot towel. (Man Spa is right Tannhauser42)

I use disposable razors, shave in the shower and tend to switch them out once the built in moisturizer wears off. I'd say it's maybe one a month. every year we buy a pack at Sam's club, and that's that.

I don't understand this fascination with shaving.

I shave after a hot shower with my razor and brush in a cup of scalding hot water during the shower. The lather is super smooth and shaves so well

Exactly. I could make the safety razor blades last all week instead of the 2 days I use each one for, but at 11 cents each, why go through a rough shave on day 3 when I can get a smoother one instead? Those multiblade atrocities are intended by P&G to only last a week, they specifically design those lubricating strip thingies to last a short time.
