from the lexicum (taken from the original white dwarf)

This ad-hoc assemblage of various armour mark segments (including new or unoffical design elements) being created by a multitude of legions resulted in an entirely new mark of armour being 'accidentally' created; these previously non-standard, emergency/stopgap designs were retroactively termed as the Mark V once production of the Mark IV was halted and the design for the subsequent Corvus Armour mark (Mark VI) was finalised. Some form of standardisation across Mark V suits is is notable, despite their apparently random creation and individual varied origins, due to the dissemination of molecular bonding techniques across the legions.

That particular bit isn't from the White Dwarf article, said article scribed by Saint Rick of Priestley in White Dwarf 129 did in fact say:
"The Imperial forces were soon forced into a fall-back position. Production of Mark 4 armour ceased and a new type of armour was
designed almost literally overnight. The was the Mark 5 or Heresy Suit."
"Being
something of an improvised stop-gap, it is common for Mark 5 suits to vary a great deal."

The Forge World Mark 5 models represent the baseline model manufactured by Mars as per the original fluff by 40k's creator. FW tentatively supports this fluff with a footnote in Betrayal about the helmet becoming standard on Mark 5.

Just because they are shown off in the White Dwarf does not automatically mean they'll be up any time soon. For example, where are those medics damn it!

So pretty and frightening at the same time. If I was in a field hospital and one of these guys walked up to me, I would elect to "rub some dirt on it" and "walk it off", rather than receive "treatment"!

The saw is mostly to cut through the void armour their compatriots wear. That said though, the Solar Auxilia does value its veterans, so rudimentary cybernetics are not that uncommon, they're even granted juvenat treatments on a large scale. Plus, even when close to death one can still serve, as the squishy insides of a Thallax.

Which White Dwarf is that Headhunters teaser in? The one coming out this week?

I love the way these look - it's interesting that it's an upgrade kit, since it looks like the backpack, legs, and arms are the only "stock" marine parts - everything else seems to be unique.

I know it has NOTHING to do with Alpha Legion, but I feel the need to say it...

I just finished reading 'I am Slaughter' which is the first book in 'The Beast Arises' series, and if FW do a book covering this event, I will give them so much money they will be able to send all their children to college for free.

I don't think it would even be all that hard. Bigger, more tech-savvy orks, Space Marines with easier access to legion weaponry, IG regiments that are somewhere in between Storm Troopers and IG, and a super easy BFG tie-in.

Seriously FW. Just take my money.

Yeah, they are Upgrade Packs for plastic Cataphractii. It's too bad you can't buy plastic Cataphractii separately from Betrayal at Calth.

P.S. Judging from the Head Hunters close-up, AL does a lot of ork hunting. I will definitely be filing off those "trophy" tasks, they look idiotic and overcrowd the helmet design.

It's really cool the way they're making resin arms/weapons to add onto plastic core parts.

Of course, it would be even more cool if they'd just make plastic arms/weapons to add to those plastic core parts... and actually sell them in regular stores

Fluff-wise, only the Salamanders and Imperial Fists have Storm Shields (more like proto-Storm-shields) in any kind of quantity during the Heresy.

Regards the new armour marks sets that have just been released, in particular the LEGION MKVI CORVUS ARMOUR set, it doesn't say in the description that any of them come with backpacks, I expect they do as they are pictured and not greyed out, it's just that they don't specify this in the contents of the set.

Can someone please clarify this that have purchased these?
