[Minion] Blood mortar? Shesh, where does he get these ideas from? the compressive strength would be terrirble.......eh yes boss as you command.

Most expensive plastic toy castle ever. Pretty, but absurdly priced.

Will be buying some (ram-)parts in order for my sorceress to mock the besieging army and turn them to pigs
Not sure if everything is good though, might settle for a few wall sections (converted to become straight) and towers.

It's worth mentioning that the castle described in the first Age of Sigmar book is covered in skulls--and dedicated to Tzeentch.
The Sorcerer whose castle it is transmogrified his sacrifices to copper/brass after having decapitated them, storing some of his power tapped from Ghal Maraz into each skull.

Thanks for that bit of the fluff, I guess they felt they needed to justify the skulls as well.
I just cant get into the aos fluff...
Have there been any dwarves in it ?
that might perk it up a bit.

If you want the fluff to 'perk up' then you should be pulling for the return of Slaanesh.

The prices confirm that they are certainly catering to a specific clientele now, hint it's not casual, beer and pretzel gamers. I think the only people who will be willing to pay these recent prices are the true, dyed in the wool, GW enthusiasts who will literally buy anything that GW produces. Maybe they weren't wrong in court when they said the hobby is buying GW models.
I make a very comfortable salary and there's no way that I'll pay $62 for 10 plastic models. I'm very glad with my recent decision to try bolt action. $35 rulebook, about $1/model.

Wow, that dreadhold is much larger than I thought it would be. The circular shape is cool and pretty original for fantasy terrain, but Chaos is still not my cup of tea, so no giant skull castle for me. @agnosto - it's $62 for *20* plastic models. Box of 20, not 10

First I like the commitment GW has made to scenery. While obviously part of the AoS wave, the scenery could be used in 40K games as well. Its disappointing that given the prices reported so far that this already niche product will be even more niche creating a self fulfilling prophecy to GW of justifying the high price to maintain the appropriate margin.
Hopefully this won't be a splash release that only has limited stock as I could see picking up a piece once every two or three months.

@Lord of Deeds - That big a set is not going to be a splash release. I think this is the Chaos equivalent of Cities of Death. I wonder if they'll do a RoB board eventually to go with it. I would actually really like a plastic cracked earth/lava game board set like the one that the chaos fortress is sitting on with 2x2 boards. That would get a lot of use from me. Ahhhh NVM. I was confusing these guys with the other Chaos guys being released this week in the box of 20. My bad, sorry guys. These are pretty big Khorne guys. I'm just not enough into the Chaos thing, so like, one hacked up bloody guy looks like another But these are hacked up bloody guys with bigger weapons and more armor. On the other hand, I'm surprised these guys come in box of 10. The normal GW thing to do would be to stuff them in a box of 5 for $50 a la Sigmarites.

I believe that having optional skull / stone wall separate panels is a concept that eludes Games Workshop and is a missed opportunity. They could easily have made a Age of Sigmar themed fortress wall with minimal separate heraldry that could be used by good and evil and then had separate kits that let you upgrade to have more / less skulls, scrollwork, gargoyles, pustules etc.
Instead... GW only makes one option and chooses the aesthetic for you.

Can't believe these prices. GW continues to exploit the customer. I've been robbed $150 on the starter, $60 on the Stormcast boxes, another $70 one for the paladins, then the $70 Bloodreavers, and now I'm forced to buy a, what, $400 fortress? How am I supposed to eat?

@keezus - how cool would that be? Modular plastic fortress with interchangeable fascia. I would buy a set from any vendor in a heartbeat. I think it would be more ambitious than you envisage though, as every piece needs at least 3 facings (front, back, top), end pieces need 4, and a few will need 5. @TrollSlayer - hahaha... but... you don't need to buy every faction Certainly not all the terrain! You forgot the Stormcast archers, though. And the books...

But, er, what exactly would I need to buy to make it? Like, one Skull Keep for each arrow pointing out? That would make, like a thousand dollar set? Or do you get it all with the Dreadfort set?

@Vyxen - good question The description is pretty ambiguous. I'm not sure what "one wall section" constitutes, and how many you need to form a circle.
It says, 1 skull keep (must be the center thing) 1 additional tower block (must be one of the outside pointies), and 1 wall section and 1 wall end.
So presumably, you'd need 2 wall ends to build what's in the picture and 7 additional towers? Plus some number of Fortress Wall sections. I think it's reasonable to assume that most people won't play with an 8-pointed star of towers, though. Maybe 2 towers or 4, at the most.
@Motograter - those Blood Wariors are new.

Maybe that was phrased poorly, but what I got from it was a less long-winded way of saying "If one wishes to buy the complete fortress and actually build it as presented in White Dwarf", yes GW ARE exploiting you. "Hey bub, wanna use this kit to its full potential? Sorry you've gotta buy 6 of em! No discounts."

The man who has enough money to buy those things, doesnt have enough time to build and paint them as fast as they come out (I'm in this category I wont buy more until I've painted my AoS set and realm gates but couldve easily bought all of it so far),
The other man has a lot of free time to devote to the hobby, but probably cannot realistically afford to buy them all at once (as a teen this was more me).

That's how I see it. The downside of such a rapid release schedule, with heavy emphasis on limited/splash releases, is that they are potentially missing future sales by limiting access to their products.
For me, I have plenty of money but an unfinished Knight Maegara on my desk because:
More precisely, for the report minded:
The more money that I make, the less time I have to commit to hobby pursuits and a great deal less time to build and paint.
