I betcha most worthwhile FLGSes would give you a nice discount if you special order the whole fortress

I could also see worthwhile FLGSes opening up a fund for their players to put money in to, as a way to get the store enough parts of a Crazy Chaos Castle to run a scenario from the second book("Cast Adrift").

For me, this was very true until I hit 39-40. Then, all of the sudden, I was finding that I was working much less (no more hundred hour weeks!) and earning a lot more.

It is very true that not only must someone be a fan and be able to afford it but they must also WANT this. Not really any different than Cities of Death and Wall of Martyrs, though. While I'm not buying tho set, I'm glad GW is making large terrain modular terrain sets that isn't all Imperium themed.

Although that's only if your problem-arrangement is such - otherwise, you might find your money disappearing faster than your problems.

The good news is that my savings account grows exponentially since I'm unable to spend anything AND I married a woman who doesn't like to spend money. I'm 43 and looking at retirement in 10 years so maybe then I can spend some more time learning how to paint.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

£37.50 for ten blood warriors feels a bit steep. For that price I'd probably stick to using the old Chaos Warriors - but then I've always had a soft spot for the models, I'm sure not everyone is a fan of how static they are.

some pics of the new releases :

Fort is pretty sweet

So to build the pictured fortress, its going to cost us a pretty penny:
Assuming my eyesight is not playing up, I count the following
1 Overlord Bastion
8 Skull Keeps
15 Walls
1 Gate

which gives us the grand totals:
Pound: £725
US: $1175
AUS: $1995

At those prices, I don't think we'll be seeing a lot of the 'pictured fortress' out in the wild...

At those prices, it would take me approximately a year of saving for the hobby to own it.

Just no. Unquestionably no.

Cool though.

Honestly, looks ridiculously over-designed to me. And kind of stupid. And at that price tag...yeah...no.

The only thing I can say that's positive about these new releases is that they're making it really easy for me to make a clean break from buying GW products.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Huh, so they've stopped taking out single bitz once each from dozens upon dozens of terrain kits to build unattainable super-constructs they can wave in front of the 99% of customers who couldn't afford to build one themselves, and just skipped straight to making terrain kits that 99% of customers can't afford.

I mean, I suppose it's an improvement as it's technically more upfront & honest to just charge a price for the terrain that says "What's that you're wearing, pleb, a non-diamond encrusted Rolex?! Shoo! Shoo! Get thine horrible poverty-stricken phizzog out of my sight!"

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

I wish the pictures taken so far gave us any sort of clue as to the makeup of these bundles. Having a 'balcony' isn't a feature. Is that one tower, or can you make more? How modular are they?

Depends on how long it takes for this kit to reach the East.

The Skull tower says that it's a two story tower but that's about it.

I would never feel safe in the external towers. Supplies running over that during an assault have little cover. It also would suck really bad to have that bridge destroyed as you are now cut off until after the siege has lifted which spells death.

In a world with flying things and gun powder and magic this fort seems very out of date... I would not be happy being told to defend such a place.

Also, skulls icky, price icky, design icky and GW icky...

I see an ongoing pattern here.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

LOL. I'll second that one

Khornishly Khrazy! Just think how much time it would take to build and paint that, too. What I'm more curious about is, if someone spends $160, what exactly CAN the build, for example, with 1 wall end?

The little gangplank does look crazy to run across during a heated battle, with flying angel lightning bolt guys whizzing around. On the other hand, these are demons. They have Magikk! But need food? Reach out, dead bodies. Need ammo? Reach out, grab skulls!

Yeah, I agree. If I grab a WD tomorrow, I'll see if there's any additional info. I mean, it's great to know what you can build for the price of uh... three tournament-quality 40k armies... or a car... but it sure would be nice to know what $100-$200 buys!

In the past the agressive pricing would have indicated that they had made rules so good that people would spam fortresses anyway.
But these days, and with AoS, the rules probably just include a reciting of the french guys in Monty Pythons "seek for the holy grail" for some ofhand bonus.

Not long I'd imagine seeing as that is where all the AoS scenery is moulded IIRC.
