Following hot on the heels of the creation of my Khorne warband blog comes this blog that celebrates the multitudes of the Adeptus Astartes.
I have had a space marine army for a while, from a custom chapter known as the Divine Exorcists (following a split from the Exorcists chapter). I will post some background for the chapter at some point, but this thread is not necessarily for them, but for all the space marines I will be finishing in the near future.
I will be painting some Dark Angels to use as allies in the army, for two reasons: (1) I have the Dark Vengeance box; and (2) I will be including Cypher and some Fallen Angels in my chaos undivided army, so the Divine Exorcists, though they are experts in tackling chaos, could use some help from the Deathwing in tackling these shady foes. Any other imperial units will also be used as allies in the DE army.

Below is a Land Raider Crusader for the Divine Exorcists. Here you can get an idea of the chapter's colour scheme. It has some red from the original Exorcists colour scheme but is essentially black armour with white trim. The LRC was added as I need a bit more muscle in my army. They kept getting pulverised by my chaos armies, and I think this was because, while the chaos armies were lovingly crafted over time, the space marines were basically a mish-mash of models that I'd accumulated over time (including some very old and dorky looking models). As such, they had no cohesiveness as a force and not many specialised units. Two landspeeders and some terminators were pretty much the only things that weren't troops choices. Even the Devastators had a random mix of weapons. So I bought this LRC and some vanguard veterans (who are fething awesome!) - more on those later. This LRC is not finished yet. The large grey icon is the five-pointed star of the Divine Exorcists.

Deathwing. These are the Deathwing models from the Dark Vengeance box, save for one, who was created because I bought the DA veterans box and it had a couple of pieces of Deathwing terminator in it - I think it was half a torso and some legs. It was a strange thing to find that they'd given me some random Deathwing bits rather than extra bits for the veterans, but luckily I had this squad, so with a couple of ebay bitz purchases, I had an extra terminator. He's the one with the power sword. Strictly, I don't think he's 'allowed' a power sword when the Sergeant has one, but screw it, they're my miniatures and my house rules! It's a bit hard to see any detail with just a black undercoat, but some paint will be going on them soon!
<<Picture removed>>

And the DV Dark Angel Sergeant, Torvus:
<<Picture removed>>

And finally, Marneus Calgar, Master of the Ultramarines, Lord of Macragge. I'm not sure yet why he would join another force, but perhaps he gets lost in the warp and is rescued by the Divine Exorcists?

I finished a squad for the Divine Exorcists, so this army is nearly finished now (more pics of the whole army to come)
These Vanguard Veterans were a lot of fun to build and paint and I'm very pleased with my blending ability on the lightning claws.
I guess some people will wonder why I don't do that technique on all my models, but I guess I can't be bothered to do it on the majority of troops! I don't enjoy painting that much, so I tend to go through troops quickly, only lavishing lots of care on the special troops. And let's face it, Vanguard Veterans are special, aren't they? This squad can tear through anything. They certainly made mincemeat of a couple of squads of chaos space marines in their first battle!

I must have had this model for years, and finally he is getting a lick of paint.
He's not finished yet, so comments are welcome. What colour should I do the leather dangly bits?

Chaplain Baracius. The varnish is supposed to be matt, but I think it came out shiny because I didn't shake it up first. I'm quite annoyed about that.

So, it appears that if I shake up the varnish and revarnish the shiny models, they go nice and matt again. So here's Chaplain Baracius with a nice matt coating now!

Below him is Captain Aurelius, who has been shiny for a while but is also now matt.

Dark Angels Venerable Dreadnought. I bought this already built and painted from ebay, but it was in a black and gold colour scheme. I have therefore repainted to go in my burgeoning DA force. The bare metal parts are not my painting, but the rest is.

Great stuff, I like the blue effects on your Divine Exorcists in particular - very nice claws! The Eversor is also a favourite of mine - it's always a nice change moving away from power armour.
I have also suffered from recklessly varnishing 'shiny'. At least I know it's now safe to go over that ;D

Meet Assault squad Petrus of the Divine Exorcists. Their mission is to tear apart daemons in close combat, and they learned a lot about doing so when they helped the Space Wolves defeat a daemonic incursion on Saprara. They rescued a contingent of Space Wolves from almost certain death, and in gratitude the Space Wolves gave them gifts of wolf pelts and armour adornments that they still wear to this day.

I've had a 'sort-of' command squad for the Divine Exorcists for a while, so I thought it was about time I actually got the squad sorted.
Therefore I created two veterans to go with my existing company champion. I'm quite pleased with the poses and can't wait to paint them!

Chief Librarian Israfil of the Divine Exorcists. Considering the Divine Exorcists supposed to be led only by librarians, it's taken me a long time to make any librarians!
He was good fun to make, with his 'superhero' stance. I made his psychic hood, in one of my more creative moments, from an SM shoulder pauldron.
The base is made by pressing various rocks and resin bases into a block of playdough and casting from the resulting mould with resin.

I'm proud to say that my Divine Exorcists space marine army is now finished. By that, I mean that all the units I wanted to include are now complete, and there are no projects on the go at present. I might paint up a character or two from time to time (no army is ever truly finished), but at least I can cross this force off my list of projects that are in progress!

The army contains a variety of miniatures acquired from different sources. Some, such as the vindicator, one of the land speeders and many of the power armoured marines are from my little brother's collection that he passed to me when he gave up the game in about 2000 (hence the vindicator looking like it's been put together by Orks). Others, such as the land raider and the assault terminators, were bought second hand from ebay and repainted. There are metal sergeants and modern plastic vanguard veterans. The dread is metal and the terminator squad is a mixture of metal and plastic models. The bikes really were cobbled together, featuring dark vengeance ravenwing bikes, some of my brother's plastic bikes, and a metal attack bike. I enjoyed bringing a force together from many different sources and trying to make them look homogeneous.

I hope you enjoy the pictures of the complete force.
