Subject: Can I take FA Drop Pods out of Codex:SM?

There are so many posts with various dates floating around mostly due to the rapid release of codexes.
I was on hiatus for awhile and I know there was a point where BA and Space Wolves had the option to take pods as FA but I feel that was when we still had the 6th edition SM codex.
Can I take Drop Pods as non dedicated transports for Centurions etc.?

Yes, the new 7th edition vanilla Space Marine codex now has FA drop pods as well, so you can use them to pod in your centurions.

Why don't you simply refer to the Fast Attack section of your codex and see if your codex has Drop Pods as a Fast Attack choice?

I did but as I pointed out there's so much literature out there suggesting to grab them out of the Space Wolves or BA codexes that I felt I may have been missing a rule.
Thanks for the answers

If it's in your codex as a Fast Attack choice then it's available for your army drawn from that codex as a Fast Attack choice.
If you're using the 6th Edition codex as reference (which is what seemed to be suggested by your post, hence my query) then you should not mix and match what the new codex allows.
Subject of course to what your opponent/gaming group thinks, but if you could simply come to agreement you may not be asking for confirmation here

It is pretty simple to figure out if you have the codex.

You're not missing anything mate. Most of the things you are reading were written back when SM did not FA drop pods (as was the case in their 6th edition codex).
Their 7th ed codex allow FA drop pods.

All I know is the current Space Marines and Dark Angels Codexes have Rhinos, Razorbacks and Drop Pods as Fast Attack options.
Blood Angels apparently have it too, as what you're thinking of is an exploit with a BA formation that gives them a huge number of Fast Attack slots. So they take this as an ally to give loads of Pods to whatever IOM army they want, it's apparently very potent with Skitarii.

Don't believe me? It's all in the numbers.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

The reason you see lots of articles on FA pods with ba/sw is that those were the only marine codices that had dts as FA.
Now all the marines get FA DTs(loyalist anyways; and maybe not gks)
Also when it was just the wolves there was a huge explosion of articles and tactica for this little "exploit"(it was almost thought of as a loophole or mistake); then the ba dex came out with them too. Now it is so blase' that nobody is writing anything about it(it has all already been covered).
In the end there is 1 important rule you should always keep in mind: your codex and rulebook always trumps internet articles. Just because nobody is talking about something your army can do does not mean they cannot do it.
|
This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.
