Just had a play of this in-store, the game is actually really pretty fun! Plays like a combination of X-wing and Space Hulk, in that it's a confined area with a fair amount of cover, and some throwbacks to those rules like Termis getting free shots when walking forward. The combat is more X-Wing like, as each D6 has a crit, 2 hits, 2 blocks, and 1 blank. Only did the first two missions so didn't see the WB leader or Dread in action, but the rest was pretty neat, the system is fairly streamlined.

With simple weapon swaps, he easily becomes a standard Centurion (equivalent of a 40k Captain), and Centurions can become one of the types of Consul with varying degrees of conversion.

The Consular roles are:

Chaplain. Well, he already is one, so...
Master of Signal: Use one of the Nuncio-vox from the tac squad sprues, and add a bunch of antennae and sensor bitz to him. Maybe steal an asuspex from 40k marines for him to be looking at. He gets a bombardment once per game.
Legion Champion: Weapon swap for the cc weapon of your choice. WS 6, must issue challenges, must re-roll failed GI. UM have a legion specific weapon (axe) that may work well for him.
Librarian: Weapon swap for a force weapon
Forge Lord: Probably the hardest to convert.
Primus Medicae: Convert to have Narthecium and needle pistol. Gets VP for being near a wiped out friendly unit.
Vigilator: Mini already has a cloak to use as a base for the camelioline, maybe alter it a little and give him a bolter. he's a sniper, scout, and can sabotage the enemy
Siege Breaker: Use a tac squad nuncio-vox, and hang some kind of bombs off of his equipment and in his hand if you want the phosphex bombs. Gives Tank Hunter and Wrecker to any heavy weapons attacks in any squad he joins.
Moritat: Swap the weapons for a pair of bolt pistols, and give him some grenades. Scout and Counter-attack, Gunslinger, and he can "chain-fire", and keep on shooting each pistol until it misses. Loner.

but that maul is so nice ! i kind of like the idea of a 30k ultramarine chaplain, after nikaea, I'm sure they started having those, anyone know about this?

as for the siege breaker idea, I usually don't give ranged weapons to them as i load them with phosphex bombs and the model got an aiming arm with a plasma gun...

I'm well aware of 30k rules, but thanks for the conversion ideas. The champions seem like a good one.

Sorry, didn't know. I read your question as if it were from someone getting into 30k via this release.

I'm pondering using HH:BaC chaplains to convert up a number of Consuls. Moritat, Champion, Librarian, Saboteur, Vigilator, etc. "The Coils of the Hydra" RoW only lets me take one Consul anyway, other than Vigilators, so the common pose between all of those would be a non-issue, since they'd never be fielded together.

The box contains a single Keress assault cannon. A second one for the other arm would be neat.

Interesting fact: Using Pride of the Legion, you can easily get 1500 points out of the contents of this box. Add a FW unit for your Legion, a Primarch if you fancy one and some tanks and you're sorted for a full HH list!

Some places are sold out of their allotments already. Is this game gonna be 1 and done like Space Hulk? Or will the minis be available separately in squad boxes and stuff? Or are those silly questions because it's GW and no one is allowed to know anything?

Given the complexity of the sprues and the cost involved I'd assume that we will be seeing these released in another form.

If not then GW have gone off the deep end.

Been mentioned that there is a Wave 2 coming after the 1st of the year.

Was confirmed by a retailer on Bartertown as well.

I stick my Word Bearers Chaplains in the largest unit of CC weapon-equipped tactical marines that the points limit allows, and point them straight at something they can drown in attacks.

Its not a complex philosophy, but it works. Mileage may vary for Ultramarines.

Why must I always choose beween certain death and probable death.

It's $180 CAD vs $150 USD. But since $1 USD = $1.33 CAD today, the MSRP is effectively $135 USD up here. Find a place with 25% or more discount, and you're looking at USD $100 or less! And in BC you only have to be 19 for booze.

18, here in Alberta

Not to mention no provincial sales tax, making it 7% cheaper. Albertans have it good I think there was a shop that had 70+ boxes ordered in Alberta, too!

GW says they will reprint and have more sometime in January. I got 70 for my stores. Plenty left if you need one.

If you look on the GW website, it will show stores that have the game on display this weekend. Those stores ordered 70 copies to get that benefit.

I think this is the first step in a much larger franchise. GW is dipping its toe in the waters. When they see how well it's selling, we'll start to get separate bundles and sequel games. I fully expect Horus Heresy: Prospero, Isstvan, Terra, Phall, Thrasmas, etc..

Calth - Ultramarines vs. Word Bearers
Prospero - Space Wolves vs. Thousand Sons
Phall - Imperial Fists vs. Iron Warriors
Thrasmas - Dark Angels vs. Night Lords
Isstvan III - Death guard vs. World Eaters (I just put these here because they did not fit anywhere else)
Isstvan V Assault - Iron Hands and Salamanders vs. Emperor's Children
Isstvan V Betrayal - Raven guard vs. Alpha Legion
Terra - White Scars and Blood Angels vs. Sons of Horus

Something like this to include all of the legions would be nice. They could switch up the models by including some specialist units (assault and breacher squads) and new HQs. Vehicles do not fit in the theme of fighting in closed tunnels, but maybe other dread types could be included or ways of including small skimmers.

Still waiting for Godot.

WOW! Those are gorgeous! I am actually just as excited for the gameplay as I am the minis. This reminds me of a cross between a dungeon crawl and a pvp minis game like star wars miniatures.

I always liked the alpha legion and raven guard... now I don't have to choose! Looks like I may have to scour the area for another set!

Having looked over them they don't seem at all cohesive. You'd need 2-3 sets to get anything worthwhile out of them.

That's a shame.

I think the tiles suffer from being hex-based and not square-based. But if you're going to put a hex grid on rectangular tiles, you need to at least orient the grid the same way on all of the tiles - these have two with the hexes aligned with the short edge and two with the hexes aligned with the long edge, which places some limitations on how you can put the board together without leaving gaps.

Imperial Fists vs Iron Warriors would be a good one for Mk III sprues, plus maybe a Techmarine character? Likewise Raven Guard vs Alpha Legion would be good for Mk VI and possibly assault marine bits. It'd even be fluffy to paint them all as RG

Is there any particular legion associated with Mk V? I've always found it slightly ironic that "Heresy" armour seems to be the least popular and least well supported of all the HH kits!

Shattered Legions. Remember, Mk V is a sort of amalgamation on all the armour marks and only start to appear when armour shortages hit. At the moment, with the timeline Forgeworld have we're still in the opening stages of the Heresy and the Legions are still well equipped. As time goes on, I'd expect Forgeworld to release a re-done Mk V kit - remember that the Legions took whatever spares they had and just built ad-hoc armour from what they had.

Oh, plastic Breachers would be beyond awesome! The next set needs to be Phall, and we need Breaher Marines/MkIII Armour, Tartaros Terminators with TH/SS options and maybe Rapiers in plastic too! GW, make it happen!
