I have gotten a ton of Marauder models.. old GW stuff.. with the double handed flails, axes swords etc.. all plastic, and ALL in cruddy condition.

I did get a steal on them..

but, was thinking on how to use them in KoW.. and since I already have a Kingdom of Men army, decided to use these guys as Berserkers.

Will be trimming off the extreme chaosy details to do so.

However.. IIRC, Men are mounted on 20mm square bases, and these guys are "northern barbarians" on 25mm bases.

A regiment of Berserkers is 20 models, with a footprint of 100mm x 80mm..

Using these Marauders, 12 of them will fit in 100mm x 75mm.

is that extra 5mm something to care about? I don't THINK so, but it would not be hard to add a 5mm strip along the back to have the correct footprint.

My thought is.. 12 of these beefy guys can output damage like 20 smaller chaps, no?

Would any of you have an issue if I fielded 12 guys on larger bases instead of 20 on smaller?

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

You're close, thats all i would ask. A buddy recently ran a Zombie Legion as 12X5 instead of 10x6 as it fit on the tray better. I didnt mind as it wasnt a massive difference.

The key is that regiments have the correct size, with bigger generally being more favorable to your opponent.

I don't think 5mm is going to make a different, or even be all that noticeable. If I were playing a unit like that, I'd be generous in determining side arc for charges, but that's about it.

3-5mm is generally the size of the lip around your fancier MDF movement trays anyway, ie the Warbases ones offered through the KS and generally recommended for UK players

This happens all the time, 100x75, for people fielding like Dryads and whatnot as units that are supposed to be 100x80.

I can't imagine anyone having a problem with it...
but if they do, or if you feel awkward, then adding the extra 5mm in the front of the tray or back of the tray or something would be sufficient.

Or just multibase

Marauders? You could use them as Varangur if you wanted to go evil

I might.. but, I don't have that army list yet.. just the Deluxe book at the moment

So.. the Varangar is the "WHFB CHaos" not-really faction?

Since I don't have any Chaos models per se, I really just wanted to stick these guys into the Kingdom Of Men list.

and.. my recent expansion of Saurus as Salamanders in my Forces of Nature list could have been in the Salamander Not Lizardmen list there as well..

Hey, we should play some Kings of War at Origins next year!

I had to miss it because of my move to Baltimore, but one way or another I'll be there next year.

I would love to try, but my Origins time tends to be taken up with Blackwater Gulch demos.. but I could be free in the evenings..

Wait...what...damn, I've just spent ages basing 40 Dryads for two regiments

All my "human-sized" KoW stuff is based like this - 4x3 for regiments or 8x3 for hordes. I use 25mm round bases instead of square, and Rendedra 80x100mm movement trays which keep the unit footprint correct. or thick mounting card for hordes, etc.

Those are sweet, may use some Fir Bolg as some Undead Heroes. I would get them for Wraiths but i've got some End Times Spirit Hosts that are gonna do that for me already.

I will echo Az: Having the right tray footprint is all that matters, so mount up models on 25mm bases just a little looser in the right tray and you are set. Multibasing is good too, especially if you don't intend to use the models for other games. You can also base a mix of sizes, from 1 to say 6 and then be able to pull off stands or singles to mark wounds should you go back to playing 8th ed or some other game.

I wouldn't care as long as the footprint is correct. I like seeing new models or old models I haven't seen for a while. And I love those old flail models. If you ever want to get rid.....pm me!
