Purely stat-wise Hammerers are better than Longbeards. The have the same move, wounds, save, and bravery however the hammerers have much better weapons with more attacks easier hits and rending.
Where longbeards do shine is there ability to provide buffs via the "old grumblers" special rule which lets them choose one of three buffs to give another dwarf unit each turn. So don't think of Longbeards as a combat unit, but more as a support unit. And like Roper said, you can put a bunch of dwarf heroes nearby them they can use "who does this beardling think he is" to let all of your heroes in 8" use their abilities even if they aren't your commander.
As for your list, theres no reason not to use a unit you like so if you want 20 Longbeards theres no reason to compromise. However with how few units you're using I dont know if 20 Longbeards will really shine, since they wont have anything to buff other than the hammerers.

Yepp, dwarfs are awesome in AoS. Hammerers shine, Warriors make fantastic shield wall around your army, the cannon is, well, a cannon, you can't go wrong with that, organ gun seems very solid and the heroes are good. Add the amazing prayer on runelord and you'll have a powerful brick to punch everyone's teeth out with.

Don't forget the flame cannon, this is great at taking out high wound monsters / heroes or heavily armoured units. Does d3 mortal wounds (no hit or wound roll needed) with the chance of doing a further d3 on a 4+. Combine with an engineer to do d6 instead of d3 mortal wounds and you can really start to blow holes in your enemies battle line.

What do you mean by 'updated for AoS'? The new AoS rules have already come out. We might see completely new units eventually, but we're unlikely to see new Hammerers, Longbeards, etc. If you're interested in Dwarves, go ahead and get them now. If you like the new units that eventually come out, buy them when they come out.

For all we know the dwarf or what ever GW decided to call them now will little to do with what dwarfs are right now. Maybe they will made out of stone or something.
What I found good is artilery and crossbow armed dudes. The problem with both is that other people may not like it when you deploy 5-6 cannons and you may not want to deploy slow melee units that don't do much.

Well, he might have meant that dwarfs can undergo a total visual overhaul. They might no longer be organized in units like Longbeards or Hammerers. For example - the Empire is no longer, same for Bretonnia. There might be no greatswords anymore when the human faction enters AoS. Some people might prefer waiting to find out what happens to their faction after it appears in the game.

Ahhh... so, we're trying to build armies based only on the fluff? I'm asking because Greatswords DO exist within Age of Sigmar. I can link you to the Empire rules if you need them.
I think it's likely that we'll see something along the lines of what happened with the Skaven, Sylvaneth (tree people) or Nurgle introductions... no new models but new updated background. The only armies to get actual new models so far are the two entirely new armies that didn't exist before.

The only thing that will change is that they are going to be sold with round bases. Otherwise nothing changes when an army is updated for AoS.
So yeah, better get them now. You never know if GW is going to rise prices otherwise.

Yes, but the army rules we have right now are a stop gap, between editions. Otherwise GW would have fewer playable factions for their new game. Just read the books, there is no bretonia or empire anymore, the few humans that do exist are non combatants living under sig mensch rule or nomands prowling the different planes.

If you want Dwarfs, get 'em sooner rather than later.
The repackages so far have all been units that were pretty iconic and likely to stay as-is. The other reason could be - activate cynic mode - that GW needed some 'safe' miniature options to keep things ticking over for AoS in the short term without it just being Stormcast vs. Goretide.
It's also been commented on a few times that Duardin and Aelfs have been extremely conspicuous by their absence from currently published imagery (I'm ignoring the red/fyre slayers in that because by all accounts they will be their own faction), suggesting that none of the current minis quite match the aesthetic that we'll be seeing - so whilst repacks may be an option, particularly with the newer kits, retirement is also a possibility.
I'll be interested to see if the release of Duardin - for example - has any effect on the longevity of the current Dwarf lines.

On the evidence so far, the repackaged infantry has been a better deal I think?

Well the repacks coincide with campaign elements from the Quest for Ghal Maraz where the Stormcast and Sylvaneth fight the Skaven Pestilens and Nurgle Rotbringers. The entirety of the repacks were all either old themed units for these factions (plague monks, dryads, branchwraith) or were relatively new plastic kits from the End Times which, as people pointed out when AoS released, were probably designed with the new setting in mind.
Also the small amounts of dwarf lore so far have referred to two different dwarf groups, the fyreslayers which you mention and the Steamhead Dwarves from the plane of metal. I remember people pointing this out when AoS released and it stuck with me, but the dwarves also got new models relatively recently as well (late in 8th) which were heavily themed around steam and black powder technology (gyrocopters/bombers, iron drakes, Grimm Burloksson) and visually are more heavily armored than previous dwarf models (Hammerers and Longbeards).
In general it seems to me that these new kits will remain, and the older style dwarfs such as warriors and thunderers will either get new models or will be replaced by new line troops.
Dreadnok89 wrote:Alot of the umits only have 1 wounds, thats weak right? And whats dispossed unit? Im new
"Dispossed" is a keyword (the words written on the bottom of a warscroll) which tells you which units a spell or ability effects (usually in relation to some sort of buff). Each faction has their own key word, and "Dispossed" is the keyword for old world Dwarfs, so I believe all the dwarf models have it as a keyword.

^ Dwarf Warriors/ Thunderers will not get replaced, two reasons:
- GW are sick of re-designing the same units over & over. Hence, Age of Sigmar.
- Those kits look perfectly fine. But on round bases, they might look a little 'off'.
I'd expect we'll see new Slayer units, with maybe a slayer 'big kit' that's been rumored for ages now.

Retirement of units is a scary thought BUT it should not scare you as it once did. Why? Because there are no more Army Books.
They could drop the entire existing Dwarf line and come out with entirely new models. If they fit together aesthetically might be an issue, or it might not (Old Khorne stuff looks great with Goretide). But no matter what you'll always be able to field your old models. Even in 10 years time, as long as the properties of a warscroll havent'the fundamentally changed, you'll be able to play your old stunties right alongside your new SteamBeards or whatever they'll be called.

I actually think this is likely - looking at the Khornate End Times stuff, a lot of people said they didn't like the style, too different, etc - but lo and behold, they fight right in with the goretide aesthetic.
The dwarf stuff had similar comments - too different etc. - so this might be a clue...?
I have a friend who is a lifelong Dwarf player and he's really not keen on the new infantry for Dwarfs - for no other reason than the decoration on the armour is embossed, rather than engraved.
If you have a spare half hour he can explain why that doesn't "fit" with Dwarfs...

Nearly all normal infantry is one wound each.
Dispossessed is just a key word for the units. Basically it means "Dwarves". Some special abilities and command abilities only affect units with that keyword.

Not sure where you're getting this information from considering most of the reboxed units have been newer ones from the End Times which have a more AoS aesthetic.
Shadowstrife wrote:^- Those kits look perfectly fine. But on round bases, they might look a little 'off'.
I'd disagree actually. As old WHFB dwarves they may have looked fine, but look at the new dwarves from late 8th edition and they look completely different. I realize that's by no means a strong or compelling argument, but it's largely why I assume these kits are going to be replaced. And also the thunderers/quarrelers are online only now, which strikes me as odd for one of the two dwarf filler troops.

Makumba is right here, yes, you get the rules for Greatswords from the Empire, but the Empire in AoS doesn't exist. Those warscroll compendia for "legacy armies" are just that - rules for -old- factions that don't exist anymore, only made so you could play with your old minis. For all we know the human faction may not have Greatswords anymore and, yes, you can field the Empire ones, but if the new art style/design for humans is vastly different, then they'll look out of place. Like using Mantic's human footmen along with your Empire army in WFB. Get the point? Same can go for dwarfs, they can undergo a massive overhaul over time and the people who jump the gun with obsessively buying stuff now (funny how much GW wins on this - such a sells spike) may end up with models that might not be that much compatible with the new factions.
Yes, again, you can play the old factions if you want for the rest of your life and you can mix armies, but that doesn't mean that legacy armies will get no support in future and the new ones may be too different from them to make them look okay together.
