So, I've decided to make my IG the 597th Valhallan from the Cain novels. Clearly I need a Cain mini in there. Now, commissars are pretty easy to come by. But his head is throwing me.
Does anyone know of a good 3rd party Cain mini? Failing that, a good IG head with big thick mutton chops, and maybe a commissar hat?
How about a commissar fig with bare arms? I'm looking at building the damn thing from scratch, which would be rather annoying.

Brother Vinni's minis.
He has one that's pretty much the spitting image of a certain Guard commissar.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...
... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Ah, you're making a mini that looks like the cover art, not necessarily one that looks like Cain?
(the author has commented that Clint Langley's covers don't actually look like Cain - think of them as propaganda posters drawn by an administratum artist in a different segmentum )
That Brother Vinni model looks a good start, but it needs the weapons changed; Cain wouldn't be seen dead with a bolt pistol, and where's his chainsword? I'd planned on using the Commissar with one hand holding a riding crop behind his back, although I never finished the conversion.
And I know you've not asked, but the Colonial Marine Sergeant Heroine from Urban Mammoth would make a good Colonel Kasteen:

There's an official Cain Miniature, but I do not recommend chasing it, he has his chops, but he also has a jaw like he's chewing a mouth full of bees.
There's a Legendarion miniature as well, but it's big; out of scale with most GW and especially with the metal IG.
Easiest conversion commissar would be the current plastic- his head and hat are both separate, and his pistol comes off at the wrist, whilst the backpack can be easily shaved off. You run the problem that most of the GW commissar poses are very distinctive, and people will not really look twice and assume it's Cain on the table.
Most fitting past commissar would be the old metal "commissar with power sword/chain sword" that is pretty tall, pretty dynamic, and has good access to give him sideburns.
You won't find a post-90s commissar with a laspistol though.

To make it look more like a generic sci-fi gun, so they're less likely to get into trouble.

I am the proud owner of that brother vinni model, and the black library one (less proudly)
10/10 on the brother vinni one, get it, it is great.
There is also, I believe, some valhallan special weapons troopers that would look STARTLINGLY like Jurgen out there somewhere, If you find them, let me know!

There's one chap with a meltagun, in a hunched over pose. Nothing particularly special, but it'd do. Paint up his uniform in a slightly different camo pattern (Jurgen was from an artillery regiment, not the 597th) with plenty of stains and you should be OK.
I magnetised the feet of my Cain so he can stand in the back of a Salamander.
It's getting suitable heads for the female troopers that's the stumbling block for me.

With the big handle thing next to it its more like an etch-a-sketch with a wipe handle

the legendarion version of cain is indeed a lil big out of proportion, so I made him into a statue objective/terrain.

Holy crap. That's the one. I'm happy to just buy a mini rather than convert one these days. Thanks! Automatically Appended Next Post: AndrewGPaul wrote:Ah, you're making a mini that looks like the cover art, not necessarily one that looks like Cain?
