Hey guys!

What is in your opinion the most balances army matchups? Lets say for 1000-1500 points.

I have orks and need a second force to pit them against for fair battles at home.

Sooo what is the most balanced army against orks and also most balanced army matchups in general!?

Orks and IG?

Maybe orks and Chaos Daemons?

Try Space Marines with Tactical squads.

Space Marines: Jacks of all trades yet masters of GRAV CANNONS!!!.
My Star Wars Imperial Codex Project: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/641831.page
It has 7 HQs, 2 Troop types with Dedicated Transports, 5 Elite units, 5 Fast Attack units, 6 Heavy Support units, 2 Formations with unique units not in the rest of the codex, and 2 LOW choices.

Something like a very basic SM force in a Demi-company might work well, I'm talking 3 tactical squads, an assault squad, and a devastator squad. Rhinos or HB Razorbacks optional, depending on your force. If you have Trukks, then put the Marines in transports as well. If you don't, then leave them on foot.

Tyranids have actually been proving pretty balanced against my Ork opponents. The Flyrant isn't that much of a benefit when EVERYTHING normally hits on 5s anyway. Not a big change of pace so the massed fire of Orks are perfectly equipped to handle it. And while Tyranids don't have much massed firepower of their own, they can still bring things like Biovores or Template weapons on Flyrants that can cut into Orks very well. Mawlocs are good at that too. It's a brutal fight with a LOT of death on both sides.

Thanks for responses! Didnt want to do ork on ork but SM does seem balanced.

I'm surprised no one has told you about Eldar. They're the most balanced army of all, having absolutely no overpowered units whatsoever. Imperial Knights are also a great matchup against Orks!

I'm being sarcastic, in case you couldn't tell.

Sisters of Battle (Adepta Sororitas) also make for very well matched battles against orks. The girls have lots of flamers and melta but the orks have lots of bodies and cheap vehicles. It's liable to be a real slaughter for both sides, no matter who wins.

Or in a Gladius. Or using Centurions, Whirlwinds, Attack Bikes, Land Speeders, Bikes in general, or basically anything that isn't a regular Marine on foot.

Space Marines and Orks are not balanced against one another.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

generally like armies thrown against one another but marines on marines is perhaps the most sensible, orks and orks can also be rather hilarious

DA army: 3500pts,
admech army: 600pts
ravenguard: 565 pts

Entirely depends on lists. Orks vs orks can be pretty unballanced too. For example, if one ork brings dread mob and another one brings...anything else.

Any army can be "broken", so there's no such thing as balanced faction vs faction right out the gate. In theory, the basic version of each and every faction should be balanced... but we all know this isn't necessarily the case. My best suggestion would be to assemble basic stuff for whatever armies you enjoy. Then, as you play games you'll get a sense of which of the two armies is "in the lead", and you can "one-up" the other faction accordingly!

At my place, we played;
Ork vs Tau, Ork vs SM, Ork vs CSM, Ork vs SW, Ork vs GK
RW vs Nids, RW vs SW, RW vs DE
Tau vs Nids

All those matchup were balance so far. No houseruling at all (except maybe on mysterious river, cuz I couldn't find 7th edition rule so we still playing 6th edition rule).
Not sure if everybody just make underpower list, or if everybody make power list, but everytime it's a close match. Lately, we have been into maelstorm wth Nids, RW and Tau, and so far so good (we had a couple draw and all the other games were 1 or 2 points difference)

The only balance in 40k is Abaddon vs Abaddon in a 265 point game of seeing who gets their charge off first.

Aside form that, possibly 500 points of Cultists vs Cultists to see who's champion turns into a Chaos Spawn, Daemon Prince first. But lets get serious, a Spawn is an upgrade beyodg the minds of comprehensibility to most Cultist Champions.

Then there is always the utterly most ying to yang comparisons between Bloodletters fighting other Bloodletters. Because no other squads of daemons fighting each other make better useless use of AP3 weapons ever.

I can't tell if you're serious or not? That's literally one of the worst match ups ever for Thousand Sons (and we've got quite a few) and a free win for the GK.

Tau vs eldar is fun
Orks vs sisters is fun.
Orks vs guards is fun as long as guards doesnt go full thuddgun / wyveren, and the orks don't go full stompa. Going full russ seems to be bad for the guards.

The most balanced matchup would probably be red checkers vs. black checkers.
