Subject: A question about multiple saves
|
 |
Death-Dealing Devastator
|
Hello my fellow wargamers,
So, I've been having a bit of a predicament. I read in my rulebook that a model taking a hit has to use the best possible save to try and stop the hit. This has thoroughly confused me, because the way I see it if you can only use one save then there's no point in invun saves or anything like that. The way I've been playing is I start with the best possible save (usually armour save) and work my way up through the possible saves of a model. For example, if a Terminator takes a hit I would roll an armour save and if I fail I would roll an invun save. Can somebody explain this to me in simple terms?
Peace out,
Clovie

A model can either take a cover, armor or invuln save. Whichever one is the best is the one you can take. You can only take a second save in special cases like FNP or RP. The point of invuln/cover saves is to protect you from stuff that would go through your armor. For Terminators, their invulnerable are for AP2/1 weapons which deny them their armor save.

If your terminator is hit by an Ap2 weapon then the best save is the invul save

Basically, there are things that can disallow certain types of saves. The AP value of weapons disallow armor saves of a certain value or worse, and template weapons (along with some others) disallow cover saves. (and a very select few weapons disallow invulnerable saves)
Because of this, your best save might not always be usable, so you would use a worse one because it's better than nothing.

Pretty much what he said. Many ranged Weapons, and all Melee Weapons ignore Cover. Depending on the Sv, AP can ignore it. And Destroyer Weapons can potentially ignore Invulnerable Saves.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

No, you can take only one save: armour, cover or invul. You don't get another save if you fail one. That's why you must pick one - best for you.

It's worth noting that FNP and RP aren't actually "saves" in the same sense. They can still be taken by things with rules that say no armor/cover/invulnerable saves allowed.
FNP and RP do come with their own restrictions though so look into those if they are something your units have.
