Looking at my shiny new KoW rulebooks today I noticed that on the bottom of the covers the words "The Game of Fantasy Battles" are inscribed.
Where have I seen that before?
Oh yeah...

Mantic started calling it that right around when AoS dropped, from what I remember.

I suppose having lots of wacky rules in a game that no one plays is better tho.

If Warhammer were better, we'd play it.
Since it isn't, we don't.
So it going away brought no tears to my eye - since I had already transferred my flag to what I highly consider as the better game.
The Auld Grump - I actively hope that Warhamster: Age of Stockholders sinks without a ripple.

Sadly enough, I hear from people who actually enjoy playing Age of Sigmar. Not anyone that actually enjoyed playing Warhammer Fantasy, or ever played Kings Of War, but people who don't have anything better to compare it to, seem to enjoy it.

And why is it sad to enjoy AoS?
Really there was never anything that appealed to me beyond the minis in Warhammer Fantasy. The rules were a complex mess and buying ten boxes of Saurus Warriors to make ONE UNIT struck me as annoying gak.
I would hardly call that something better to compare AoS carefree nature too.
I am getting into KoW but theres no point comparing it to AoS. Their too different. One is about movement and everything beng so balanced its almost all the same and the other is playing in sandbox. Like comparing Apples and Pineapples.

I'm not trying to pick on you but your comment reminds me that many people seem to think that you had to buy 10 boxes to make a unit when instead you could make awesome dioramic movement trays like this (not mine):
To be fair, KoW makes this even easier since they never had the "remove individual models" mechanic. But unit fillers have always been the biggest, worst kept secret in fantasy gaming. I have never seen or heard of someone having an issue with these in games as long as the person had a counter dial or dice next to the unit to count off casualties.

Because GW went back on their promise and killed WHF!!!
Seriously though. There's enough alternatives out there that if someone does enjoy AoS, who cares? Ofcourse, there will always be WHF people who say that only morons play AoS, much as there are always WMH/ex- 40k players who still insult people in 40k threads.

I found it on frontline gaming. I've seen some really nice ones locally for different factions (a big herdstone for Beastmen being carried by beastagors was great). A search for " WHFB unit fillers" on google yields some beautiful results.

It's not a terrible way to spend an hour or so but it does nothing to scratch the itch to have a more serious tactical experience outside of historical games. It cost me nothing since I already have the models and rules are free but I'm hoping that KoW continues to gain traction in my area as it's a bit deeper than AoS. I'm also hoping that KoW will get a bit more variety in the magic area as well.

"Stop liking what I don't like" will never be a valid viewpoint. It's not your place to judge that someone is having fun in the wrong way.
I have played one game of AoS. I enjoyed it. I think it's too much work for me to set up a game with our classical notion of balance when so many rulesets are ready out of the box, so I'm not going to go out of my way to play it. But it's got some pretty slick mechanics.

I've written and erased about a half dozen rants at this point.
If I offended anyone who enjoys AoS, I'm sorry, that was not my intent.
Why I felt it was sad ? I don't like AoS, for a multitude of reasons, and feel my friends' time would have been better spent playing Kings of War.
Being that this a Mantic related thread, in the Mantic Section of the Forum, I felt that would have been a more popular opinion amongst it's readers.
Also, I wasn't being terribly serious. I didn't actually cry about it, or even make a frowny face.

I did, great flaming tears of fire, running down my basalt cheeks, hissing as they hit the fumeroles below. <= Possible hyperbole.
I have no interest in AoS, and really, really do not like it.
But my group had already switched games to KoW, about two months into 7th edition Warhammer. (And I switched well before my group - which is why my group knew about KoW when 7th flopped so hard.)
But AoS really is not the same type of game as KoW. (I have plenty of invective describing what type of game AoS is - but mostly, it is an excuse to pit toy soldiers against each other and make 'pew - pew!' noises. A lot like kids playing with a bag of plastic soldiers from the dollar store.)
I would much rather speak of how much I am enjoying KoW than how much I hate, loathe, despise, and strongly dislike AoS.
Right now I am looking forward to borrowing a friend's Ratkin as he borrows my Undead - I have three games planned for tonight. Two against the owner of the Ratkin, and one against my good lady and our Dwarfs. (The current plan is I play before Megan gets out of work, so Eric knows the ropes of the Undead army. Then I play Eric again - and this time it counts. Then Eric plays Megan, then I play Megan. So each of us has one official game against each of the others. Thank the gods above and below that I have tomorrow off....)
Not a league yet, but we are definitely counting coup.
The Auld Grump - I want to learn the feel of the Ratkin so I can use them in a narrative campaign, as background for an RPG... I've always liked the Skaven for that. (I loved Lichmaster.)

That is well played . My whole group has switched to KoW in theory - but many of us were still getting armies together, so there have been games but a bit of proxying so far. I have the rulebooks and they're incredibly well made, though - fantastic job by Mantic on that front!

Sure, it scratches the itch of "let's drunk a bunch of beers and hang out and roll dice". Kings of War scratches my itch of "tactical brain exercise!"
