So Iv'e spoken to a few GW stores in my area and they all say that the LoTR rule books are in the process of being re-released.
Apparently the biggest delay GW has with the LoTR product range is the fact the New Line Cinemas has to check and okay every little thing they release which slows the process down to snail's pace.

Not sure if this means any level of updating to the rules, not sure if this means all of the books will be rolled into one sweet af hardcover or if it will be digital only, not even sure if this is old news to you guys haha.

Either way, Iv'e just gotten into this game and I'm pretty excited!
Has anyone else heard this tidbit?

Not heard it, and while I doubt it (not you, just that GW regard LotR as anything more than the irritating-but-rich friend that they kept around for his cash who's now gone broke and is just irritating ) but if it's true, hallelujah! I'd love one more One Ring style rulebook (to rule them all!) but I'd be pleased as punch with just the regular books being redone!

The guy at my local seemed pretty dead set on this coming out, and the other stores corroborated it.
Must have been some sort of briefing that went out to GW staff.

Having just got into the game I can't wait, I mean Iv'e managed to track down pdfs but I'd love the opportunity to actually buy the real thing without having to pay some of the ludicrous prices people are charging on eBay etc.

Yeah, it really would be fantastic if it happens! It's just a surprise to hear it when you consider a) there's been no releases for about 9 months now, b) they're going all-out on Sigmar and 40k, and c) didn't their last report say something about 'three (soon to be two) games'?

Still, I live in hope!

I highly doubt they would re-release any Lord of the Rings rule books. Maybe a re-print, but that's it. Why would they put more money into something that obviously sells really bad.

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

Re-release/re-print, splitting hairs isn't it?

Who knows it may just be a digital release which wouldn't really cost GW much to do and is a hell of a lot better than the current arrangement where you can buy models for a game but have to turn to the internet's seedy underbelly and rip off merchants just to acquire the rules/supplements.

As of now I only have the horses mouth to go on, I guess time will tell the truth of it

I could see them just making a single Lord of the Rings sourcebook that contains army lists for everything in the LotR range. Because, honestly, right now, they do have still quite a bit of stock of many armies that you can't actually play without hunting down a pdf or paying someone other than GW some $$$ for an out of print sourcebook.

I would instantly buy a single-volume LotR sourcebook, especially with better production qualities than the awful Hobbit book.

I'd love to see such a re-commitment to the LOTR/Hobbit line, but I'm not holding my breath...

Considering the fact that they do massive print runs of BL book, codexes, and more, a final print run of one comprehensive Hobbit rulebook with all army lists in would be remarkably easy for GW, and not particularly expensive. If they keep the rules the same bar a few published errata tweaks, all it would require is one of their digital layout people spending a few weeks making it look pretty and setting out the pages.

Also, you say it sells badly, but have you seen the silly money a Free Peoples codex goes for at the moment? Hobbit has started picking up again the last year or so, so a new book would be a good way to make a few bob. Wouldn't raise millions, but if they gauge the demand about right, they could probably make a tidy little sum.

He's literally sourcing what Dakka posters said in another thread on this.

Yes. He even provides a link to this THREAD in News & Rumours as his source.

The thing is, they have announced they are re-branding the game (again) this time as the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game. If they are doing that, I would expect them to release a new rulebook under that name.

I'm not sure how a dakka thread being referenced as the author's source really matters if this information originated from Adam Troke's presentation.

Seems to actually corroborate with what was churning around in the rumour mill with GW staff many months before hand.

Mr Troke apparently announced there will be a new "core" book.
