Subject: Any fan interpretations of 40k?
|
 |
Hurr! Ogryn Bone 'Ead!

7th ed is getting stale, and I'm growing tired of the randomness.
I've been playing one page 40k, and it has been fun, but lacks the crunch of 40k.
Has anybody made their own modified version of the rules? Or a hybridization of older rules to make the game play more dynamic?
Let me know
Thanks
Austin

PM Azreal13, he has a modified set of rules.
I did not get to test them Im afraid but its a reworking of 6th with some 2nd ed modifiers thrown in and vehicle rules. I liked the initial idea

On a related note - have you tried 2nd ed rules?
They are fairly different even from 3rd ed on.
Minus modifiers, psychic card decks, every unit with a different M stat, various forms of armor, hand to hand much more lethal (fumbles and parries LOL) etc etc.
Well worth a look......

Id rather start new with kinda fresh ideas. I have a interesting idea of using 40k AV system as the base for all damage instead of the chart system. Having a two numbers both parties know and reaching that number or more instead of referring to charts i think is awesome. It also allows for interesting ideas such as over kill and crits to add in spice. (aka say a bolter is ST4. enemy is "av" 8. you need a 4+ on a dice to wound him. if you roll 5s and 6s it might do extra things or multiple wounds to a single model) edit: I do not know if another system actually uses that system. its similiar to the DR system in spartan system but id rather use set strengths than number of dice needing +s

Bit define AV8 for us Desu - also how does str4 relate to it? Some sort of chart is applicable no?

Me and my buddies have been playing round with an new AV system too.
Basically the same rules but you mostly use your AP to pen vehicles.
AP 1 = S9
AP 2 = S8
AP3 = S7
AP4 = S6
AP5 = S5
AP6 = S4
Anything
S10 and S9 gets +2
S7 & 8 gets + 1
On the penetration table
Ordnance gets a +3
Blast gets + 2
Anything S8-10 gets a +1 (but cannot be combined with ordnance or blast buffs).
Template weapons that pen autokill the vehicle.
Incredibly fluffy rules and a tad complicated to remember it all and not perfect. But for us few armour nerds we had bliss.
never tried spreading it though, was interesting but we realised it didn't really work.

Well would have to write out the whole rule. but say figure out to hits in some ways. but to wound you roll a d6. add your weapon ST to it if you match the enemies av or toughness value or any other name you can think of. then you have done a wound. and such. no charts needed. just need to know your relevant stats. edit: Oh and av8 wound be a marine technecly. av7 for humans. since roll of a 3+ st4 wound = 7.

I would like to help write a new rule set.
If anybody is interested.
I have played a ton of different sets of rules, and can provide some insight.

I would give 2nd ed 40k a look, but it's lacking some factions that I really like.

@Redbad: You want a PM, when I'm done writing my rules? Which armies do you play?

To me the Chaos Space Marines needed to be characterised as a threat reaching back to the Imperium's past, a threat which had refused to lie down and become part of history. This is in part why the gods of Chaos are less pivotal in Codex Chaos; we felt that the motivations of Chaos Space Marines should remain their own, no matter how debased and vile. Though the corrupted Space Marines of the Traitor Legions make excellent champions for the gods of Chaos, they are not pawns and have their own agendas of vengeance, empire-building vindication or arcane study which gives them purpose. |
