I was just given a Kindle Fire by a family member. It's pretty nifty. However, the word processor app, while nearly identical to microsoft word, which I'm use to, doesn't have an undo button. Why of all the super-convenient things did they have to leave THAT out! I'm an idiot, and sometimes I delete something or cut/paste something somewhere I shouldn't have. I NEED the undo button! Or am I just being to picky?

If it works like Android there is a standard 'back' button always available.

Amazon OS just sucks. You can root it and install regular Android, though.

Yeah. I got tired of bubble birds after a few minutes, what else would I do with it?

That's the question I ask every time I look at one. "That's cool... What would I do with it?" I'm just surprised to hear of people trying to write on them, because those onscreen keyboards are the most painful thing I've ever used.

They're pretty crap for productivity tasks imo, but pretty good for everything else. They're way better for browsing the internet from the couch or bed, than a tiny phone or an awkward PC hooked up to a screen. Good for reading books, or playing touch games on public transportation. If I'm one some cardio machine at the gym, great for loading up movies or youtube videos while flail my legs in place for 2 hours. They also act as pretty good "2nd screen" so I can browse the internet while I'm waiting for matches to load in PC games though that's only because my desk doesn't really have room for an actual 2nd monitor. They're good for bringing up recipes in the kitchen too, way better than paper ones. Also everything I've said here so far, but on the toilet.

Yeah they're worthless for writing but once you actually get one it turns out having portable screen of decent size is surprisingly useful.

My friend swears by it for writing his notes and assignments for uni, though that's probably because he doesn't use the onscreen keyboards and instead writes by hand using a stylus (and he has a detachable, physical keyboard for when that isn't appropriate).

That said I believe he got one of the high-end Surface tablets.

You could buy another word processor app? They're not expensive. Is MS Office available in the Kindle App Store?

As for typing - do the new Fires have Bluetooth? I know the first generation did, not sure about the second. You could pair a Bluetooth keyboard to the device if it has.

I use a cheap Hudl 2 Android tablet (8 inch screen) and a separate Bluetooth keyboard.

I wouldn't want to do spreadsheets on it. It's fine for reading and writing documents, and email, wesurfing, and so on.

A bigger one would be even better but also a lot more expensive and above a 10 inch screen you might as get a cheap, small laptop.

I do the vast majority of my online activities on a nexus 7 2nd gen. It's fantastic and I very rarely have issues on it. On topic, I know the Google play store has some decent apps for free that would would have what you're looking for...... but you can't get that on a fire unless you root it.

I have no problem writing on it. I'm a pathetic typist anyway. I do like watching movies on it, but I'm totally over all those ridiculous app games. I did download an office app, and it has all the features I wanted. My only problem now is that I have a bunch of word documents on my laptop that I want to transfer to it, but when I email them to my Kindle, they show up as e-books. I can't edit them, so they're pretty much useless. Any help for that? I really want to have everything on the Kindle so I'll never have to lug my laptop around. (And to think, back in the 90's me and my friends used to lug desktop computers with CRT monitors around for LAN fragfests.)

I surf the DakkaDakka when I take a Dakka. Also, I play Knights of the Old Republic when I take the train downtown.

For flights, I play Talisman or Elder Signs.

I just recently downloaded the Adeptus Sororitatas Codex on my Kindle Fire. I'd rather have a paper book, but what can you do? For the data slates, it works well enough.

I also downloaded all of the 40k FAQs so that I have them electronically instead of paper copies.

I've played a few app games, each for about fifteen minutes then I hit the wall that is programmed into them so that you have to pay to keep playing, and then I uninstall it. I've transcribed quite a bit of my wargame ideas from my laptop, and watched a few movies on Netflix, and used it some to surf the wab. I also have an external charger, so I can extend its roaming life and that's pretty cool. I am old enough, I guess that I no longer fall in love with gadgets.

I find my Hudl 2 lasts about five to six hours of use on the road, doing email and webs surfing not video. My EE Kite MiFi unit lasts a bit longer. This is usually enough for a day on the road, and I carry a good battery pack in case I need to do any more.

I have a samsung galaxy tablet with the worst power ever. I sweat it lasts like only 3 hours.
The worst is that its power is variable, one time at it ran at 12% for an hour. So I dont really know the kinda power I have left

Maybe the sweat is causing a short circuit, draining the battery faster?
