I posted this yesterday in hopes of getting someone to help me write it, but It was deemed Offensice and deleted by Reds8n
Care to explain your actions, Reds8n? Or will you just delete me again. I got your warning, and it makes no sense.
Because it was incredibly offensive. The fact you can't see that is...disturbing, motyak
The Bridge of the Macragge's Honour was silent as its hulking mass drifted through the warp. For Marneus Augustus Calgar, this was hell. In front of him lay a realm where all reason and logic are of no consequence. Where the souls of the damned twist and scream in eternal agony as the playthings of daemons. Both listening to the constant laughter of the heathen Dark Gods as they unravel and twist the Immaterium to their will. The two heart’s of the Chapter Master burned with rage at the mere thought
And yet, the silence persisted. He was amongst allies, to a degree. His fleet was a hundred ships strong. His forces consisted of the entirety of the First, Second, Third and Ninth Battle Company’s. But that was not all that comprised this Grand flotilla. Traveling with him, was Logan Grimnar, Great Wolf of the Space Wolves, as well as Tu’Shan, Chapter Master of the Salamanders. They too stood on board their chapters Flagship’s, the Hrafnkel and the Flamewrought respectively. In fact, the Great Wolf’s ships far outnumbered his own, for it was their Crusade they were about to partake in.
For months, the the Space Wolves homeworld had been bombarded by distress signals, though not through the usual means. Instead of receiving it through an Astropath qoir, it came from the Marines equipment. Cognitor’s, Vox-Casters, Holo Pads, sometimes even through one of the chapters servitors. A wall of voxcom chatter, followed by silence, then a series of coordinates leading to a little known Subsection. The Message was clear, and terrifying. A new Hive Fleet, coming in from the Galactic North, they were devouring everything in their path, completely unchecked by the Imperium’s lack of significant presence in the region. Within hours, the planet was divided, some of the more superstitious marines believe it to a trick by their dark brethren amongst Chaos, while others, such as many of the Chapters Iron Priest’s believed it to be a Miracle of the Omnissiah/God-Emperor, warning his followers in advance of the great danger. It wasn’t long before Logan himself decided to answer the call for help did their situation became, precarious.
No sooner did Logan start amassing his Warrior’s, the same distress signals started to be heard on both Macragge and Nocturne. Within weeks, word had spread throughout the Imperium of the Danger, with the Adeptas of the Imperium scrambling to bring enough resources to bear, while the Inquisition, now on course to Fenris, began their search for the source of the cries.
When they arrived, they were treated with open hostility. Marneus mused, of course they would be, last time the Hounds of Fenris and the Inquisition parted ways, it was over a bloody dispute for the lives of Imperial Citizens. The Inquisition’s Iron handed ways of dealing with possible corruption had struck a chord with the wolves, and ended with an engagement that nearly split the Imperium apart once again.
But, it seemed that the representative the Ordo had sent, this Inquisitor Owen Ryder, was of a different breed than most Inquisitor’s. He was patient, respectful and most of all humble. Grimnar had even mention that the Inquisitor had even gone so far as to apologize for the events that had transpired, and wanted to work with the Great Wolf to combat the Tyranid threat.
Within’ weeks, a Crusade fleet had been amassed above Fenris, comprising of forces from the Imperial Guard and the three affected Chapter’s, and with world after world on the Northern fringe going silent, they had bravely set off to face their adversary with the Great Wolf as their Lord Crusader once again. That had been three Months ago. Even with the Coordinates, and the sacred Astronomican guiding them, constant warp storm’s was making the journey a slow and grueling one.
And we are still light years away, thought the blue armored Giant. At this rate, they would arrive to nothing but barren, striped husk’s. Word through the Astrochoir was that the calls for aid had fallen silent. the Crusader’s were now heading into the unknown.
A quiet beeping was heard from one of the cognators in a bank to the left of his command throne. A naval servitor, adorned in gold honor’s much like the rest of the bridge, stomped its way over and began to interface with it’s machine spirit. “There is an incoming transmission from ‘The Arcadia’ Lord, Inquisitor Ryder asks for your presence.” It droned in a raspy, monotone voice.
Marneus furrowed his brow, before replying in his own machine like voice “Very well, put him through to the Holotable” He stood, before marching briskly towards said appliance. “Yes Lord, at once” was the lobotomized cyborg’s response. Not a second later, the holotable activated with a soft whine and a three dimensional replica of the mysterious Inquisitor materialized before the Father of Macragge.
“Greetings, Chapter Master” He opened with, bowing his head slightly. “I request that you hold your question’s until we are joined by your Brethren, what I wish to say may be of all our interest’s”. Marneus gazed for a moment at the illusion then nodding. He scrutinized the image of the man before him. Inquisitor Ryder was a tall man, still short by Astartes standard’s of course, but still tall enough that most mortal men would be looking up to speak with him. He looked youthful as well, his spiky black hair and beard making him look as though he was only into his early thirties, and with the exception of his left arm which had been replaced with a large, advanced looking prosthetic with a Claw almost three time the size of his flesh and blood hand, he was bare of scar’s. Other then that, he wore the garb of an Inquisitor, a dark, armored trenchcoat over a suit of form fitting artificer armor, and the famous/infamous Inquisitorial “I” hat.
As though on queue, two more hologram’s materialized around the table, Tu’Shan and Grimnar had just joined, the prior with a relaxed stance, while the latter stood rigid and addressed the Inquisitor instantly.
“What is it, Ryder” The sound of the gruff, centuries old warrior’s distorted voice warbled through the bridges vox-caster. “Any news about our destination? How far have those filthy insect’s gotten?”
“Unfortunately, I don’t have any new information regarding our enemy. But I do have something that could be of great benefit” The Inquisitor replied cooly. He pivoted his head to look at all three Chapter Masters, “I may have found a way to make it to the Pesuddo Subsector much quicker than anticipated, within’ a matter of hours in fact”
It was at this time, Tu’Shan decided to speak up. “How is this possible, my ship’s Navigator estimates it will take another month for the fleet to arrive” He spoke with a deep, reverberating voice. Even over the vox, Calgar could feel the weight of his Brothers words, and they were true, for both Logans and his own Navigator’s agreed.
“Malgus is not mistaken” Replied the Inquisitor, referring to the navigator by name. His claw prosthetic reached out of view of the holo-projector, typing away at something off to his left. Suddenly, an image popped into existence on the Holotable. A triangular object, each side precisely ten Miles long.. Its surface was peppered with small holes, Superficial wounds to the colossal Gate. Yes, thought the armored giant. this looks like some type of ancient Webway Gate. His mind wandered to the Eldar, one of the Imperium's oldest foes.
“What is this you are showing us, Inquisitor?” Tu’Shan questioned, his words echoing that of the Wolf Lords. Calgar remained silent, listening for the inevitable explanation. “This, gentlemen” Began the Inquisitor, “Is a piece of Archeotechnology, when the Inquisition found this, we contacted the Mechanicus with due haste and soon discovered that this gate functions like a Teleporter, we believe the Ancients once used these to move vast fleets across the Galaxy without the use of the warp.”
The Marines looked with a new sense of awe at the object. Such a thing was unheard of, the warp had been humanity’s sole way of travelling the void for millennium. This archeotechnology must have been from Mankind’s golden age.
“There is a catch, however” continued the Inquisitor, “due to it’s condition, we can only safely transport a single ship before its power cells overload. Repairs are costly and take time, we’ve only actually used the gate once before”
Marneus decided to speak up then, “What happened to the ship” This gate would be of no use if it’s sole trial obliterated the test ship. And if Ryder was about to suggest what he was thinking, the risk’s would be too great.
“I assure you Lord Macragge, the gate functions properly. I was aboard the test ship when we did it. I used this ‘Stargate’ to return to Terra to report a successful testing to the Inquisitorial Headquarters”
Logan got a toothy grin on his face, “Would have been quite embarrassing if you got turned to Stardust instead” to which Owen replied with an equally shiteating grin “I know, but to see the look on the pompous faces almost a week after I send then heed of my arrival, it was priceless”
The room went quiet. All deck hands of the ‘Macragge’s Honour’ now watched the conversation with silence wonder. Seven days from this part of the Galaxy to Terra? Impossible.
“I seem to have garnered your attention, so i’ll continue” The Inquisitor once again began typing away at something out of view, the images being show changed, now show a Galactic map. The image zoomed in on the extreme northern edge of Segmentum Obscurus, a series of blue arrowheads, representing the Imperial fleet rested in the bottom corner of the map. Further ahead, a hollow orange triangle, possibly representing the adequately named Stargate, winked into view.
“When I planned the fleet’s path, I took into consideration the Gate as a strategic asset and plotted our course to pass close to the system it's being held in. I suggest we pool our elite unit’s onto the fleet's most powerful Ship, and and use it as a vanguard to establish a beachhead.”
Tu’Shan was the first to speak. “A sound plan, but which ship will we take?” All eyes fell upon the Lord Macragge and the Wolf Lord. Being the only two owners of colossal Gloriana-Class vessels, then were sure to wage their ships dominance against the others. So, Calgar decided not to. “We shall take the Hrafnkel, it is the largest of the two ships, and so we will be able to bring more personal with us.”
Logan gave the Ultramarine and disappointed look, almost as though he was hoping for an argument to prove who was better, but relented soon after. “It is decided then” Ryder declared,”I am transmitting the coordinates to the rest of the fleet. Choose who you bring with us wisely, our very lives may depend on it.”
“Your words of Wisdom never cease to Amaze me, Inquisitor” Replied the Wolf Lord sarcastically.
My words always have meaning, Grimnar, even if one does not understand at first. I must adjourn now, I have much preparation to do. Ave Imperator!”
The farewell was echoed by the Chapter Masters as the Inquisitor cut the transmission.
