Uhm... what? Like, the old Blizzard game from way back when?

This sort of thing is actually pretty common. I have played on a DAoC shard using a build that was first released in 2002 (I think) and I am currently playing on a WAR server and game doesn't even exist anymore.

I presume that this WoW shard will be free?

Why would you want to go back to the game when it took AGES to level up on a server with no end-game content?

Well, to my knowledge Warcraft: Orcs and Humans didn't really use servers.

It was back in the age of sticks, stones and MS-DOS.

I don't 'think of WoW when I hear "Warcraft" by itself. I think of the strategy game.

Though that might just be the natural human tendencies to ignore unpleasant things, like WoW.

Nostalgia and some people like 'grinding', if the grind is enjoyable. My wife and I love DAoC purely for its PvE, prehistoric as it is by modern standards, because if you just want to hit monsters there has yet to be a game that surpasses it. I'm sure that some of that enjoyment is nostalgia and it is 14 years old so it is well behind the curve of modern MMO's from a quality of life and mechanics perspective but it just works. We have tried playing a swathe of other MMOs and none of them really come close.

Some people like to experience the levels and the zones that the lightning fast leveling of today pretty much has you skip.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

Out of interest Sigvatr did you play the game from its initial release?

Levels 1-59 used to actually be the game, now they are just a time consuming route to get to maximum lvl and raids/end game loot.

I still remember teaming with other dwarves to try and take down the fearsome bear of Loch Modan (when it was an elite!), or as a guild of Elves guarding the forest against Horde entering and amazing world-pvp battles. All of that kind of stuff has gone in the later incarnations of the game - but I still remember it fondly in a lot of ways, the game wasn't always just about the end game, it was about playing the game for itself as well.

Yes, I played almost right off the start with my fellow animal companion...and a priest...and a warrior...I...got a multiclass addiction.

The game was awesome back then, I don't think anyone doubts that. It felt absolutely amazing because for the very first time, a MMO was accessible for /everyone/. A living, breathing and interesting world and a community that didn't enjoy the min/maxing, but the experience - as you said it, the way was the goal. The MMO landscape, however, has changed and so did I - and many others. It was an experience unlike any other, but as with any experience, it dulls after time and becomes bland. Right now, between having a daughter and a very demanding job, I just could not find the time to get so deeply immersed in a game anymore. Neither would the public - the MMO community today is all about faster, bigger, stronger, min/max, insult and dominate other players. "Old" WoW wouldn't have a place in today's gaming world. Sadly.
