Assault marines with storm shields, lightning claws, and thunder hammers, caught my eye. Possibly with infiltrate, if you read the blurb on GW's site.

So now that we have rules leaks in the rumors thread, what are peoples opinions?
I love the idea of it and even the execution of, but I'm not looking forward to staring down a mobile ADL that reflects a auto wounds/glances on a successful save of 6. I've play my kastelans enough to know that, while the reflections are infrequent they can catch you off guard and make people very hesitant to try and gun down the unit.
Now Tidewall's reflection can be bypassed with ignore cover weapons while a Kastelan's can't, it seem that Tidewall can reflects blasts unlike with the admech killbots. The fact that this is mobile (only over open ground though) and gives the embarked squad psuedo relentless makes me think this is gonna make this a solid addition to tau gunlines

The enemies of Mankind may employ dark sciences or alien weapons beyond Humanity's ken, but such deviance comes to naught in the face of honest human intolerance back by a sufficient number of guns. |

It really does seem like a solid option for any army. Even though the reflecting damage back to the attacker is a low percentage, I believe that it is enough of a factor to deter many enemy units to take the chance of a squad going to ground and getting the 2+ cover save. It will be interested to see if / when they will release the Tidewall Rampart again.

I dont know if alternating placing of terrain is still a thing in seventh ed. but I probably wouldnt have a problem being a bit of a jerk and placing a bit right in front of the tide wall, or at the very least right in the middle of their deployment zone forcing the tide wall to one side or another.
Personally, I dont dislike the rules. In fact I'm very happy most of its special rules only work for Tau models. Its gotten really old when other codexs seem to take advantage of a different armies toys better than the codex they are intended to be used in.

Fortifications are deployed with your army now, so no way to do (1). (2) is certainly possible, tough.

Doesn't work like that. After successful cover saves are taken, you roll a die for each one of those. On a 6, the shot is reflected. It's better than Kastellan's, but still tame.

The bouncing shots back is really badly written, why would low strength weapons be hull pointing vehicles? Same goes for low strength weapons auto wounding models.
I'm not even going to touch on how bad moving terrain is.

Because guard with 3 wyverns are a thing. It will be nice to see them destroy themselves.

Yup, and not only that Wyverns also have Barrage so unless you can fit a Shieldwall in between the centre of the blast and your model, have fun making those armour saves saves.

Yup, my bad. Got it all jumbled in my head while posting. Definitely gives it more oomph against things like punishers or other weapons with meh str and ap but many shots. You can bet I'll be bringing wyverns and eradicator russes with these out and about, though its not like I wasn't already.

I agree with Crablezworth. The bounce-back on a 6 really is poorly written.
I get that it's not going to happen a lot but one major complaint I've always had with Tau is that they seemingly ignore portions of the established ruleset and it seems like that isn't changing anytime soon.
Str 5 guns being able to do damage to AV14 is ridiculous. You can try to justify it by saying that it will not happen a lot but the bottom line is that it can happen and it is ridiculous that the possibility is even there.
