A few weeks ago before Tau was even really known to be released I bought myself a Riptide because I just liked how it looked on the box in white. A few weeks later rumours and then the release of Tau came and I was going to start them. Two weeks ago I bought some Troops for $40. Now I see those troops for $60. A 50% price increase. After seeing this and now GW releasing boxsets separately instead of together like Stormclaw and Deathstorm. Now you are paying the same price with only one army now instead of two and no rule book to boot.

I don't know, I just find this very off putting. So I am wondering, has anyone else about to start Tau, but because of the price or other reasons not bother?

Just saw the new fire warriors cost Jesus....that really is too much for one squad its insane I thought the Blood angels £22 was a bit too much. I was going to collect Tau but now....not sure I can afford to spend £60 just to get two squads to make minimum.

At least the Blood Angels squad allowed you to make two units. £30 for one unit? Unless the Tau Codex lets them be taken in 5's then no.

Wow. Poor Tau players. Space Marines cost $40 and Fire Warriors cost 50$ now? What kind of sense does that make?

Unit Composition: 5 Fire Warriors

You were saying? This isn't exactly earth-shatteringly new and scary stuff here guys. Fire Warriors, right now, are a basic unit of 6 with an additional 6 more available(because the current boxed set gives you 12).

Hell, Pathfinders are a minimum unit size of FOUR and give you 10 to a box(allowing you to build 2 4 man squads from a single box, or 5 4 man squads from two boxes).

Still doesn't justify the price hike where exactly does the extra costs go? that little drone thing and some new guns and heads. Like 50p worth of extra plastic means a £10 price hike. This is just GW really pushing the limits now. Soon we'll all be paying £50 for a box of ten standard troops the horde armies are going to get royally screwed. How long before we're paying £30 for a squad of gaurdsman pff...

Thinking on it I don't think I'll be getting tau now im not made of that kind of cash and I wouldn't be able to bring myself to pay £30 for a set barely any different to the previous fire warriors at £20 just last week on the shelves.

Where are these new tau? I can see strike force which is 10 tau, and 2 drones for 30. The old were 12 for 22..

The new Fire Warriors box gives you 10 Fire Warrior models.

Previous box: 12 models, 33€ (2.75€/model).
New box: 10 models, 40€ (4€/model).

It's actually a 45% price increase per model.

Nothing new under the shining sun

(waiting diligently for the inevitable post telling us how the new box is "amazing value" and the price increase is "steep, but justified".

Well, you see, the new box is amazing value, and the price increase is steep but justified.

Also, Fallout 4 is $120 USD because we thought it would be nice to our Fallout 3 customers to increase the value of the entire Fallout franchise.

With all new sculpts, tons of extra bits, a whole new multi-plastic, multi-option turret of course this new box is worth $50! After all, wouldn't you pay $13 for an upgrade sprue containing all the parts for a breacher team and a turret?!

No lol at least it would be optional this is like adding spoilers to my new car without me asking and charging me 45% extra the original cost for the privilege not to mention plastic is cheap to produce nothing in that set adds up to the price hike they've done. I'd expect 3-4 more troops for that extra cost

The price hike goes to the following:
You now get the parts to build two Drones of the following type: Marker, Gun, or Shield and enough parts to build a single one of the Guardian Drones.
You get more heads than you're letting on, with twenty helmeted heads and 6 unhelmeted heads(which look to be half male and half female).
You get 12 sets of legs and 10 torsos.
You get 12 Pulse Carbines(including one that is loose and has a matching arm to 'cradle' it), 12 Pulse Rifles(same), 12 Pulse Blasters(same as the others).
You get 10 of each type of shoulderpad(Strike have a larger, flat pad that is currently the Fire Warrior pad while Breachers have a slimmed down version that still looks just as protective) loose from arms.
10 of each backpack type(Strike use the same as now, Breachers have one with the Field Amplifier Relay on it)
You also get the turret with a SMS or Missile Pod.

It's $79.80 for a squad of 10 Battle Sisters here. There's a huuuuuuuuuuuge difference in those prices.

I don't see how that justifies a $13 price increase. Surely you aren't saying that all of those extra parts cost $13 more to produce. I could see $3 being a reasonable price increase.

And how wonderful of them to not give two extra torsos/backpacks etc just to really rub salt in those wounds.

Insinuating for an instant that "production costs" alone have ever been the driving factor behind GW's prices is pretty disingenuous.

And how many more sprues does all of this take up compared to the old Fire Warriors box? The number of bits are less relevant than the number of molds that have to be tooled in order to determine the cost. Then again, GW still just pulls from its ass whatever price it wants to charge.

Considering WGF/DFG can give you 20 models for $42 on 4.5 sprues.

They stopped selling the 10-box ages ago in a lot of places. For Aussieland, you need to buy 3 3-boxes and one HQ, plus one or two special weapons troopers individually, in order to make a squad, leaving you with one or two leftover models (also making it more efficient to buy two or three squads, in terms of wasted models).

Besides, if you're buying the ten-box you're being screwed anyway because who the feth uses storm bolters?

Three sprues for the forthcoming Strike/Breacher Squad box's 10 models
versus
Eight sprues for the old Fire Warrior box(torsos/bodies/heads were on one sprue and guns on another; these got tripled up so you could make a 12 man squad and two Gun Drone sprues), and it didn't even give you enough to outfit a squad with Pulse Carbines if you wanted to.
