I know movies hardly do justice to the universe created in books. However, my question to you is this, if they were to make a real Cinema movie in the 40k universe WHO would you want the director and visual director to be.... im open to all.
my personal choice would be guillermo del toro. he does such a good job of creating a visual and detailed world (pacific rim, pans labyrinth, hell boy)

Pragmatically, the guy has the pull and the long-game capable of handling triliogies whose runtime can be calculable in days. We all know the rich nature of the WH40k universe... The WH40k cinematic universe could easily rival Marvel's if given a chance to shine.
Lord of the Rings played pretty close to the book (as much as reasonably possible for the medium) and combined CGI with Live action admirably. This gives us hope that the grim story in the dark 41st millenium will be told properly and represented on a grand scale.
The Hobbit... well, it did show a few improvements on the CGI army clashing. And while it didn't tend to be very subtle with its messages (Greed is bad and makes ya grumpy, m'kay!), 40k isn't exactly known for emphasizing more subtle drama.
Just imagine... 1/10 of every movie could just be long, slow-motion, hyperdramatic shots of some tempted character staring at the Chaos symbol.
He might be just about the most perfect possible choice to mix in the right amount of 80s retrotech Pauldrons-as-40%-of-your-aromor vibe while keeping it relevant to a modern audience.
Also, gore. So much gore. He could, and would, go all out.
I'm also fairly certain he'd be able to make right an' propa' orks!

Anyway, Peter Jackson could do something cool. And there's a part of me wanting to have some sort of Alien parody but with genestealers instead, and I wouldn't be opposed to Ridley Scott taking the stage on that. I might just have to write that up myself though in the form of a fan fiction, as I very much doubt it would happen.

Tbh I think it would be too hard to make the films not cheesy..... in the traditional sense.... not wargaming sense lol! I think it would be decent enough to do one film about the emperors great crusade, then maybe 3-4 highlighting the main evens of the heresy? Drop site massacre etc, you can have hints of what is going on elsewhere and have the majority of primarch deaths included. Battle of Terra as the final climax, with a little endtro highlighting how downhill the imperium of man has become between then and the 41st millennium?
Also looking at that picture.... Mark Strong as Horus? Nah he's typecast as the evil/betraying kind of person.
Make it someone who you at first would not even think about betraying the emperor, but can nail a baddie when needed. Rest are spot on though!
My preferred director? Myself. And it would be a quick 30-second film with a single screen showing, in simple text, "40k should never be a movie". Then it would end, and I would pocket the entire production budget.

Oh hell no. The LotR films could easily have been closer to the books (Faramir in particular comes to mind). His large battle scenes in both films were poorly done. I don't want people waving imaginary axes through imaginary people and as a result no impact in battles. I want it to feel like two swords clashing are actually hitting each other with people behind them rather than air.

Eisenhorn series on HBO. Excellent way to introduce the setting while not requiring extensive knowledge of the background.

Eisenhorn indeed! It's a great introduction to the universe and works very well as a stand alone story. I would go for a movie trilogy though, one for each book.
Zack Snyder to direct, he makes awesome movies when given good source material to work with. And he has already done a bit that in my view represents the 40K esthetics perfectly, just look at the WW1 battle sequence in his movie Sucker Punch.

I'm not even a guard player and I'd love to watch this. That sounds awesome, makes me think of playing a game of Only War.
I would really like to see the Tyranids on screen. As to the casting post above...I don't think Daniel Craig would be very good for The Lion...Maybe make him as Horus. I think he could pull that off nicely.
I think guardsmen should be the focus with marines introduced as the walking god tanks they are later on. either that or a series focused on the end of the great rusade and the heresy, so main characters are primarchs
Also 40k is an incredibly visual universe that would be difficult for most directors to achive, the only one who is around right now who i think could nail down the asthetic is maybe Del Toro or George Miller
