There's often discussions on the forum about famous gamers and usually the first one mentioned is Vin Diesel. As part of his advertising for his new Witchhunter film, he played a game of D&D, as a witchhunter character. I'm still partway through it, but it's looking pretty darn awesome. Plus I love Critical role.

Totally unrealistic...a bunch of paid models sitting around playing d&d? Where are the nerds with braces and Cheetos fingers? also for the dm...the 80's called and wants its journey hair and wrists bands back.

all kidding aside....that was a pretty cool video.
GG

p.s. they totally stole my name.... Grog

Dan Casey and Jessica Chobot work for Nerdist (you might recognise Chobot from a cameo in Mass Effect 3). - Nerdist put the video together.

Matthew Mercer (the DM), Travis Willingham (Grog) and Laura Bailey (Vex'halia) are all voice actors who do a weekly dungeons and dragons webshow. Mercer was recently Robin in Arkham Knight. Travis is known for playing Thor in various animated shows and I know Laura Bailey as The President of the United States in Saints Row IV.

In an interview that's link trained to this video, Vin talks about how the Last Witch Hunter is based on the idea of his D&D character. It might be put together with people of a certain... not stereotypical nerdy "unattractiveness", but there is no doubt that the people there enjoy D&D and play the game. This just isn't there normal group and some of the people may not have played together enough to 'mesh' well as personalities. That's atleast the vibe I was getting from it.

Nice, I enjoyed that

Seems like a good opportunity to plug these again.
I'm involved in the setbuilding, scripting and production of these.....
It's a lot less serious but fun nonetheless.

I finished working on the 3rd Yogsquest a few months ago, I can't reveal too much due to NDAs but it should be more miniature based than previous editions.
Should be coming out on or around Christmas time.

I've literally just run my first proper D&D session tonight (meaning a full group of 4), this thread couldn't be more topical for me.

Neat video.

I'll just say, not all gamers fulfill the stereotypes.

That wouldn't happen to be the one Hat Films showed a bit of in their Trip to the US episodes?

Nope, that's a separate thing. Looked fun though.
They were playing Star wars Rpg.
The new one is using their home brew system and a different genre.

I'm mad because Diesel actually has the money to make a movie about his D&D character.

If only we could do the same for Dark Heresy.

Saw the movie. It was pretty decent. If Kolder was based off his DnD character then those sessions had to be have been a blast

I hope they do a sequel. Was a good popcorn flick.

And it helps that the theater nearest me just renovated and replaced the crappy old stadium style seating with flippin' Lazy Boy recliners in the plushest leather ever.
I didn't want to get out of the seat.

It's a movie where Vin Diesel is exercising his DnD fandom. Not to be mean, but he's done two movies where that's happened and they both sucked. Hope is not high

And yet both times he's managed to get very well-respected actors and actresses(Judi Dench for "Chronicles of Riddick" and now Michael Caine for "The Last Witch Hunter"), so clearly there's something right.

To be fair, Caine accepts any role in any film if the money is right

Yes. That new Witch Hunter movie is based off one of Diesel's D&D characters.
