I love'em. I've tried to persuade my local Necron player that he'd have a lot more fun if his army revolved around raising dead models, rather than ignoring them outright, but so far, no luck xD

There are really few items that give that ability, too. I'd kinda think that Orks or Blood Angels would have it, somehow.

Tell him that as a Necron player, I agree with you: We'll be Back was much cooler than Resurrection Protocols

Agreed.

I'd take it farther than We'll Be Back, though . Just rolling a flat IWND is kinda cool, but what if the army revolved around certain models (Lords) made models within his reach regenerate, with some gear being able to boost that or make it work differently? Sort of like Vampire Counts combined with the Iron Legion from Avengers: Age of Ultron - The leader characters are tough as nails, but also needed to keep the army trekking along.

I'd love this.

I think it would be vastly more flavourful, as well as giving the HQ units a reason to exist (as it stands, they're just kinda there). I think it would also make the army more fun to play against - as opposed to just facing an army of bricks that just don't die.

Furthermore, there's just so much you could do with this. e.g. instead of having resurrection orbs improve RPs, have them work as they do in Dawn of War - wherein they bring back models in an area around the user.

Also, again from Dawn of War, you could have Tomb Spyders collect bodies of Necrons who die nearby, and then recycle them into new squads.

I don't know, I just feel that sort of thing would make Necrons much more fun and interesting to play. IMO, it would also be a lot more fluffy - demonstrating the importance of the Noble caste, and how interchangeable the basic Necrons are (constantly dying and being resurrected/recycled).

You're not. If you're worried about your opponent using 'fake' rules, you're having fun the wrong way. This hobby isn't about rules. It's about buying Citadel miniatures.

Oh. God. I just had the best idea ever.

So, okay - generally, Warriors, Immortals and all other models like that (so not the insect-like models) have lower T, S, WS, BS and whatever, making them more of a horde... But, to compensate, Lord and Overlords can get abilities to contionously regenerate Warriors and stuff like that, and get Reanimation Orbs to regenerate the rest of the lineup... But it doesn't stop there.

An USR that Tomb Spyders, Scarabs and maybe Wraiths have allow them to roll a die for every dead "horde" model within 6'' of it, and if succesful, gains a counter. Then, when you begin reanimating lost models from a unit, you can spend those counters in a unit (not necessarily the one it collected it from) to regain more models. This represents them gathering lost materials from those units and storing them.

So, say a Lord uses a Reanimation Orb, which, for simplicity's sake, regenerates 1d6 Wounds from all non-Tomb-doomby-spidery-thing units within 6'', and a Spyder nearby has four counters. That Lord can then decide to spend those extra Counters on one or more of its rolls, e.g. making a Warrior unit regenerate 8 models instead of the original 4, or to make sure that vital Lychguard unit gets all models back, even though it had only lost 4 models originally. It might even choose to use it on himself, the selfish prick!

Combine that with some sort of unique morale system (I'm thinking that Warriors have Fearless, but Lords and other HQs doesn't. They would then have a rule that, instead of the Fearless overriding their Ld, their Ld of 8/9 overrides the Warriors' Fearless, representing them being controlled by their Lord), and we'd have a halfway interesting army!

Something along those lines would be pretty fun, I think.

My only concern is that Ld system - seems like it would make it far too easy for opponents to make the Lords and such flee in combat.

Regardless, I think something along these lines would just be so much more involving to play.

Exactly - I want to play armies that require my oversight. You should always ask yourself: "Why do I need to witness this battle we're having? Why do I need to choose where my models go in this scenario?" With some factions, like Orks or IG, that's because the army doesn't work unless you think the army through and guide it... For Necrons? I don't fukken know.

Still, They'd properbly be Stubborn, Lords and Overlords. They wouldn't care too much if a Warrior or two fell.
