Subject: A question of scale - Mad Robot Heads

Hey there fine Dakka peeps,
I am running into a problem with the shiney USAriadna. Mainly that there is too many faces to paint and I really dislike the boonie hats that the Fox Trots have.
I was hoping to replace the Grunt heads with these:
And the Foxtrots with these:
Sadly I am worried that they might be a little large for the Infinity scale.
Does anyone have any experience with the Mad Robot heads and their scale.
Could you tell me if it is going to work, or if they will look like goofy oversized masks

Their scale are a good fit on GW Cadians, not true scale FW dkok, so if infinity is the same scale as the latter, then they would not fit.

I would have said the same pre-Icestorm, but these days the scale is bigger, and USAriadna stuff is mostly new, so those heads might not look too bad.

Yeah, that is where my problems start. Hopefully someone has some in hand to test for me.

If they are bobble-head scale of the Cadians then they defintely won't fit (even with the modern sculpts) and actually would probably look pretty humourous.
What you really need is a pic on a well known sculpt, you can then infer from there (although from Big Mac's comment it doesn't sound hopeful).
Will wrack my brains if I can think of some kind of historical kit maker that might do a 28mm head suitable (these look like a real-world analogue so there might be something).

The website says they're 28mm heroic, so barring a miracle they'll be way too big for infinity minis.

With the new scale, it might not be as off as you think.
It might be off for the female models but that is about it.

The problem with "heroic" isn't so much the scale as the proportions; a 28mm "heroic" scale pistol is about the size of a 28mm regular model's torso for example. "Heroic" heads/hands are just likely to be proportionally larger than they should be.
Still, they don't look too expensive, you can but try and find out (and post pics if they work well, or even if they don't and are comically oversized...).

A Guardsman that is completely in heroic scale (debatably) looks fine with his gorilla hands and colossal face. In true-scale, however, even on something as large as a Father Knight or other HI, they look pretty ridiculous. I just got a pretty good laugh when I plopped a Cadian guardsman's head onto my unbuild Mobile Brigada as a test. Even if Mad Robot's sculpts are somewhat more realistic in proportions, their seriously beefy necks would not blend well with most models from the Infinity line. That being said, you might be able to find some similar designs from a historical miniatures company.

Which Cadian Guardsman? The basic Shock Troop box or a head from the Cadian Command Squad?
Because the latter looks passable, the former looks wildly out of place.

I tried both, and even the unhelmeted CCS heads were completely misfitted. I guess that maybe their entire skulls are similar in size, but their facial proportions are still off. If that doesn't bother you, then go ahead with it. You might be able to pull it off with a clever paint job or some greenstuff work, though.
