I haven't seen a list like this, so here we go! Hunter cadre- 1348 |Commander 135 +VT +2 Missile Pods |3 strike teams 145 +pulse carbines +one SMS Turret |Crisis Suit 27 +Flamer |1 piranha 40 |Sniper Drone Team - 84 +2 Marksmen (3 total) |Sniper Drone Team - 84 +2 Marksmen (3 total) |2 Stormsurges - 860 +Pulse Driver +EWO +Shield Gen CAD - 225 |Ethereal 50 |2 strike teams 90 |Tidewall Gunrig - 85 CAD - 275 |Darkstrider - 100 |2 strike teams 90 |Tidewall Gunrig - 85 Tactics and why I have a unit of Stormsurges - I have a unit of stormsurges because I really like Str D missiles flying all over the place. It's like a party where everyone's invited but your tank might blow up. The strategy, and the reason why I have 2 CADs, is because Sniper Drone Team + Gunrig = Markerlight gold. Probably as gold as putting Darkstrider on a gunrig so he can use his gunrig's emplaced weapon to lengthen his Structural Analyser range and turn your T6 MC into dead, the Sniper Drone Team has a 3+ cover save with Stealth and the defense line, puts out 3 BS5 markerlights, can move and count as stationary thanks to the gunrig, can have a BS5 sniper drone (thanks to drone controller) fire the railgun, The railgun that comes automatically with submunitions. Darkstrider strides on a 'rig. He can't join a sniper drone team, but he can be near them. I almost used a Coldstar for anti-air, then I recovered from the brain aneurysm and just threw velocity trackers and 2 missile pods on a Commander. As an alternative to the two stormsurges, I could take a Ta'unar and have enough left over for a riptide.

Putting Darkstrider on a Gunrig is disgustingly awesome. He'll be vulnerable as well though, shame he doesn't have a target lock. If you're shooting the gunrig with the sniper drones remember the whole unit with have to shoot at the same target as the gunrig
With the Sniper Drone team i'd rather have extra drones instead of extra marksman you can hide the marksman in cover while the Sniper Drones JSJ, also if your marksman dies your Commander with Drone Controller can join the remaining Sniper Drones. Also remember the ethereal's storm of fire works on longshots pulse rifles.
Can't you take the Tidewall as a fortification detachment (is that a thing? Battlescribe seems to think so)? Then you shouldn't need the extra CAD.
Looks horrid but lots of good alternate ideas

Why not use the Gunfort? 1 fortification 3 Gun rigs and armourbane because Tau
Also how are you planning to get D missiles with no marker lights?

As for the gunfort, the issue I have with that is that you not only need 3, but they have to maintain the same form as they move. So if you make a triangle with the three gunrigs, they have to stay a triangle as they move. Since they can only move over open ground, it would be incredibly difficult to reposition them if I needed to, especially on a table with a lot of terrain or buildings. Armorbane is awesome, but I'm not sure its worth the 285 points and the difficulty of moving it is worth the formation. As for the markerlights, each of the three sniper drone marksmen has a markerlight. So I have 6 BS5 markerlights.

Forgot they had MLs sneaky I like it . It is 255 points for the fort the same as 3 Gunrigs, so no extra points for armourbane. Yes it does become more of a static piece in the network.

So basically, it comes down to whether or not I want a static Markerlight line with 3 armorbane railguns, or more mobile markerlights and the potential to hit more targets that a static line might not be able to see depending on terrain.

You're not putting the stormsurge IN the tide wall right? If so, you're not moving it at all, right? Not even an inch?

Stormsurge rules state can not move what so ever. It has still moved. Counts as not, but has for all other rules purposes. Therefore can't fire twice. I'm embarrassed for you if you really think it can fire twice, and would insta win due to tau scum plus cheat tactics

Why are you treating it as moving? It hasn't, counts as is effectively the same as is. It counts as not moving for all rules purposes unless you have a list of rules which it is does or doesn't count as moving for? That list would have to be one from the rules to be valid.
This is no more cheating than adding a Wraithknight to your list for 295 points. Or treating D-Scythes as ignores cover D weapons with the D-Scythe rule. Or using invisibility in the psychic phase if you rolled that power before the game.

Is been discussed at length in you make da call why it can't, as wel as by sources like
Mwg and even gw has said in emails it doesn't work. Why are you fighting this so hard when there is so
Much evidence against your opinion

There's no evidence against my position. I'm not fighting hard just pointing out the fortifications count you as not moving. If the Stormsurge hasn't moved why are you treating it as having moved?

Because the rules for stormsurge state it can't have moved under ANY circumstances and moving on the tide wall is a circumstance

But the stormsurge won't have moved. So why when the stormsurge hasn't moved are you worry about a restriction against moving?

Because the rule for it not being able to fire twice activates before the rule of them not having moved. And if the same time, then having moved still comes into affect. There is no way around this. TO have already stated their ruling. Not all but some.

Welllllllll.... im going to have to agree with Fling....
It explicitly says that models do not count as moving when on the rig. The only super cheesy thing about this is the fact the dude deployed a stormsurge on the gunrig and its all lop sided and wobbly as hell...
Looks odd yes, but Its NO LESS LAME than a wraithknight getting cover from an agies line in front of him.

Cool so we have a rule saying we can't move and another rule saying we haven't moved. No conflict there. There is literally no argument to this, just because stupid TO who hasn't read the rules or doesn't understand English has made a ruling is irrelevant. TOs make dumb calls all the time.
So tell me how not moving breaks the rule against moving? I'd really like to hear that?

You're ignoring the fact that number one, the stormsurge states it can not move under any circumstances what so ever at all. And two, that the tide wall states a model has moved, but counts as not for shooting purposes. So which is it? Has the stormsurge moved under circumstances or not? Answer is yes it has, and since its moved under a circumstance it can't fire twice. Ignoring this is blatant cheating and rules bending. Tau scum.. I swear.. You guys think you need cheese but you don't. Started from the bottom, still there

Yet another sterling example of GW rules-writing and how thorough it isn't. Huzzah. Funnily enough, the Miniwargaming tidewall rules review covered this same thing.
And no, I wasn't planning on putting a stormsurge in a gunrig - they can sit on top of it but they don't really fit. The base is just way too big. Ghostkeels don't even fit properly in it. Well good to hear, the tide wall is nice, very quirky, and any tau player who ISNT attempting to bend rules is awesome. The stormsurge I personally don't like. I've watched some reviews and a batrep or two and it doesn't seem to perform well in my opinion.

The Stormsurge is a good unit. But you have to use it correctly. If you're using it in a hunter contingent, it absolutely always needs to be part of the coordinated firepower. The Stormsurge is good for one thing, and that's blasting sh*t off the table, but it can't do that unless it has a couple markerlights., especially for the destroyer missiles, since you absolutely need those to hit and making one str D costs 1 marker.

The strength d is only 18" right? It would just worry me getting that close due to potential close combat if that d weapon doesn't wipe out everything it needs to.

The stormsurge's pulse blastcannon is str D at 10", but since that's a horrid use of a stormsurge I took the pulse driver, S10 AP2 Large Blast from 72" away.
