I try to or I feel guilty. Anyone else feel this way? I'm in there using their lights table and a/c/heat so i feel like I owe them something every time. Plus its a little Family store not a chain.

I'm at the point now though there's not much else I need for my army's so I buy pops bobble heads, maybe a paint color I don't have, and other things I don't need. wanted to see if others felt this way or do I just need to chill out? I guess on one hand being in there playing is kind of advertising. Maybe someone will walk by and want to buy an army.

Almost wish there was just a membership fee but I know that would not promote people to come play........... Any past or present store owners want to chime in

In the warp, searching for Marbo

I also go to a Family FLGS, but I'm kinda poor, and only end up buying something(s) once a month. However, the people who run the shop like me for some reason, and even though I do Ebay shop a lot, I am compelled to buy something of decent value every so often.

The place is laid back, and has that We're all buddies vibe to it. Like, if we got happy costumers, they'll come back and buy more. Hell, about half(ish?) if the terrain there belongs to regulars.

So no, I don't (feel the need to) buy something every time I visit, but it's like the store itself is a friend so I do feel the need to buy ever so often. Loyalty I guess.

Feels like I was rambling...eh.

After all these years of searching for Marbo...he found me. Heretics beware! He's back!

I usually end up buying something when I go to my local store. I feel like it is the right thing to do, although I don't look down on people who do not.

I sometimes buy stuff for infinity or on those rare moments that PP decides to send delayed warmahordes stuff here, and it doesn't get sold off in a second. I don't buy w40k stuff, because there is nothing good for my army.

On the other hand we do have to pay around 2 euros for an hour of playing in the shop, I go most offten to.

I don't buy something every time because I buy stuff when I need it and I don't always need something. And I don't feel guilty about it because I am buying my stuff from my local store(s), just not necessarily on the same day that I'm in there to play a game. I'm not going to buy random stuff I don't want just to satisfy some "one game = one purchase" rule.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

When I played CCGs I picked up a booster whenever I was in.

With 40k, I don't feel compelled. Instead of $2-3 every time, it's $25-40 every now and then. But I do most of my purchases at my FLGS, so he gets my support.

When I had a bit more time and could actually play at the FLGS, I found buying a single brush or paint wasn't bad at all, and I usually needed the replacement anyway.

Brushes are one of the few things my FLGS stocks that I don't buy from him. I get mine from a dedicated art supply place. And while paints are in the impulse-buy price range, I just don't burn through them that quickly to need new ones on a semi-weekly basis.

Unfortunately the local shop I play at for the most part is an hour away, and stocks mostly just board games. What little GW is in stock is usually never anything I need and I took a solemn vow to never pay full price for GW.

Also, the leagues we play have entry fees that are payable to the game store so add that with the gas money I spend just to get there and I don't end up feeling guilty for not purchasing anything there.

I never play at my flgs, except for on rare occasions historicals.. 40k nights are once every two weeks on a worknight, and every time I do get a chance to visit, the gaming room is typically full of either MtG, Yu-Gi-O, or various RPG games, none of which I play.

My flgs is about 30-40 minutes away, so I don't even go there unless I have something I know I want to buy beforehand.

I definitely try to. I get a 20% discount on orders over 100$, which is as good or better than what I can find online. So yeah any time I buy it's usually 100$ purchases at the store.

They have enough stock it's actually usually easier to buy from them than online. They stock Dreamforge, mantic, Victoria and Raging Heroes.

Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

I try to make a purchase every time (at least at the non-corporate store I frequent). With all the games I play, it's not a difficult thing: Munchkin and Smash Up have enough expansions that there's always something I don't have; for all the 40K models I have, there's a ton of stuff I don't; being new to Kings of War, there's tons of Reaper Bones that fill the model gaps currently in Mantic's Ogre army. Add in paints and other supplies, and there's rarely a visit there's not something I can purchase.

Not at all, I buy expencive stuff there from time to time, but not all the time. What I do is purchase candies and so, at the store, and drinks. But that is because I want to.

No purchasing pressure the way I feel it. OP needs to chill out and not be neurotic.

I do. Supporting my FLGS supports the gaming culture. Not supporting your FLGS will just seen the local scene diminish.

Generally yes, since I'm a regular the owner gives me a 20% discount. Even if I'm not buying hobby supplies or models the shop always has decent selection of warhammer novels and is also a comic shop even if its just 5$ there's always something I want or interests me that I can spend a little on.

As for feeling guilty about the times I don't buy anything, I really don't. It's bnot what I feel obligated to support the store, I legitimatly just want to the shop is awesome and the owner and family have always been kind to myself and the wife, they treated us like friends ever since we first came to the area.

As everything at my store is 20% off I tend to buy something every time I'm there. Usually $10-20 everyone I'm up there and about a pre-planned purchase of $250-300 every few months or so. He has a reward system in place so end $175 get a 10% off coupon. So my big purchase is generally 30% off retail.

No, and in fact I rarely buy anything from my FLGS anymore because:

A) Their Warmachine (my current game of choice) stock is abysmal
B) When I order something it often takes like 2 weeks to arrive, if it ever arrives (at least one guy I talk to ordered something a month ago and is still waiting)
C) The store only gives a 10% discount but there's 7% sales tax, so in reality I'm only saving a couple of cents
D) There's no guarantee the shop owner will tell you that it arrived; people have ordered stuff only to have it go on the shelf and someone else purchase it, because they were never notified that it came in

The three of those things combined means I very rarely buy anything at the shop. Maybe a small blister pack or paint or something, but after being burned a few times waiting weeks for something that I needed that never arrived, I order online every chance I get. You can't beat 30% discount and getting an item within a week.

Every 3-4 months I spend money at my LGS but its most likely always big purchases, pretty good deal spend $420 (over a period of time) get $50 free. I just save my money till something that comes out catches my eye. As for Sodas and Snacks definitely agree.

I used to feel exactly the way the OP does and would make a purchase every time I went in the store but my flgs doesn't offer any discounts at all and then there is sales tax to boot so it's hard to compete with online retail. They reall don't even try. There is no loyalty or rewards program so I eventually stopped since I could no longer afford it. Plus I don't play many pick up games there. I usually only participate in events or campaigns which I have to pay an entry fee for and occasionally even buy a box as se times that's required for participation. I can honestly say that I started out super loyal to them but over time I just didn't feel appreciated as a customer due to the lack of buying incentives. Plus, on like my second visit, (when I was still making regular large purchases there) one of the regulars came up to me and gave me a speech about how I should buy from the store and not in eBay or online. She basically insinuated that I wouldn't be allowed to play or at least looked on approvingly if I did but I soon disregarded that after making constant large purchases and finding that the events were always designed to favor the small group o people who basically live at the store. It has since gotten better but since I still pay to participate and only really play there for those events, I find that I really only buy things like paint and WDs there. The online prices are just too good when my budget is taken into account

The way some of you talk, it doesn't sound like the "F" is included at your FLGS. Or maybe it is, it's just not the correct F-word

Nearly 100% of the time, I buy a drink. But maybe only 50% of the time I make a hobby purchase of about $20-$30. Occasionally, I'll buy a new blister or kit and spend a bit more, but I really don't make frivolous purchases just to keep from feeling guilty. If I buy somethjing, it's because I wanted to buy it!
