Basically what the title say, I'm wondering about taking a techmarine as my warlord, so I'm looking for some info.
Unlike a kibrarian, he won't kill himself/be sucked in the warp.
Unlike a captain/chapter master, he is cheap.
And he has a 2+ !
But I don't see him having a huge impact on the game.
I think to give him a combi and the servo harness, and to put him in a command squad.
What do you think ?

What sort of army do you play?

BA is a bit iffy. I think Dante or someone else would be better, particulary when you want to be close to the opponent.

In Codex: SM then a TFC (which is a great unit in it's own right) comes with a techmarine for free, so you can have him at the back of your army, out of sight and protect Slay the Warlord. EDIT: Gah, not a character. I think I would have to play test it a bit before deciding.

Don't think GK have one to my knowledge.SW have the Iron Priest (key part of thunderdome lists).

Yeah he's actually a bit of an all round badass, the only thing i would say is that if the enemy decide to go and kill him they WILL, 2+ is great but ap1-2 is pretty much always available and he has no invuln

If you aren't just sticking him with dev's or a backfield unit the Harness is an auto include, personally i'm a fan of sticking him with a sternguard or command squad in a pod. you can give him a gun if you want but having a flamer and tl PP he's pretty much there to defend the squad when they get into trouble more than take the fight to the enemy. His melee ability is damn good, harness see's to that

As with anything Space Marine the bike currently is the best upgrade after that i wouldn't bother adding to him any more, he comes with an axes and the harness does really make him a baller

How good are servitors with a techmarine?

Unnecessary to be honest, and they'll just slow him down.

Servitors are rubbish, if you want fire support you put him in devs with a conversion beamer if you want repairs you give him a servo harness. either way the servitors are just underwhelming

hes okay as a secondary HQ, go full harness bundle him with sternguard in a pod or vanguard in a raider assault in/drop in and just dump the hand on whatever you point them at

If you slap him on a bike he is very cost effective protecting expensive units vs AP3 flamers and other ignore cover stuff. Take for example DA, which have amazing cover saves, but very little 2+ armor models than can ride on bikes.

I love taking a teckie I have him pretty barebones running with a cheap as chips libby who sits back dropping prescience etc on the techies 4 servitors with plasma cannons sitting in 3+ cover with the techie out of LOS, works well and is cheap for 4 plas cannons

Facts are chains that bind perception and fetter truth. For a man can remake the world if he has a dream and no facts to cloud his mind.

I think the Techmarine is the only one for DA. Not even Sammael has a 2+ save.

Yeah. Dark Angels don't get a Master of the Forge. Apparently tech marines who get promoted to that post, get hard-wired into the Rock's computer systems, to be gradually reduced to bones with all the others before him. Gotta love the IoM sometimes lol

That's just the excuse that the Inner Circle found so that they can keep the Master of the Forge in one place and not wandering about potentially finding things he isn't meant to find.

If you were in the Inner Circle you wouldn't want your secrets to be heard by someone who has loyalties to Mars as well as the Legion.

It's been mentioned, but a Thunderfire Cannon is a better investment of points. All the goodness of a TM HQ, but then for 10 points more you get an amazing gun. Techmarines are generally low value, as a pretty expensive model without an invul save. If you're looking for a cheap HQ, a Librarian is probably the better option, given the boosts that are available for the points invested.

TM with Servitors could be a half-decent bully unit. That's a lot of 2+ to wound rolls. Trouble is delivery.

I have run a Tech Marine in full Harness in a Landraider and in a Storm Raven. As a suport piece he helps dramatically to keep those vehicles alive. Add in I was playing Iron Hands with IWND and those vehicles hardly ever were destroyed.

I have also walked him on foot behind two Vindicators and still had great results.

I used him in a tac squad riding in a landraider. It wasn't like a super competitive game but that unit did extremely well! Harness all the way. I wouldn't ever give him a combi as the twin linked plasma and flamer is really good. I give mine an auspex as well. For my next games I'm going to be running him with a command squad in a landraider with 3+ invulnerable saves, FNP and melta guns and lightning claws!

The 1+ to cover for a piece of terrain is HUGE! I stick my lascannon devs in there and it takes alot more firepower to bring them down.
