Do we know more about Eldar language than just a few words ?

Not really.

Eldar runes are more like hieroglyphics in that a pictogram can represent a word, idea, sentence or entire concept.

Hard to translate. GW haven't really gone into it.

Sorry.

That being said, I've used this when looking for concepts.

From what they mention in the codex and I think in the Path books it is also ritualised and draws on their myths and legends / history so some phrases don't have direct translations unless the person they're speaking too has the same knowledge and culture.

Bits of the path of the warrior from what I remember indicate that it can be driven by stance and gesture too so what you're saying changes depending on what else you're doing.

So its a multi level language using several communication systems at once to give one meaning.

Though there all mentally capable of using at least basic warp based powers, surely they can send a exact thought too?

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

The Eldar language is complicated. But yes it's multi-level. I think they said in the Eldar codex it's possible for 2 Eldar to have an entire conversation using only body language.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."

We know pretty much nothing, and pray it remains so. Any attempt by GW to expand on the Eldar language would undoubtedly be so horrible as to make a thousand linguists cry out in pain.

Lots of Celtic/Gaelic influences in its written form (as presented to us, the readers), the multi-level body-language references date back to the Elves of Warhammer Fantasy, which was always a cool trick.

Basically, no matter how well-educated a non-Eldar is, they can only manage to speak "babytalk" Eldar (Eltharin? Whatever the name of the language is).

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

There's an enitre page in the 3rd codex that talks about the Eldar language, though

^this is pretty much the gist of it.

And the Angels of Darkness descended on pinions of fire and light... the great and terrible dark angels.
He was not the golden lord. The Emperor will carry us to the stars, but never beyond them. My dreams will be lies, if a golden lord does not rise.

I look to the stars now, with the old scrolls burning runes across my memory. And I see my own hands as I write these words. Erebus and Kor Phaeron speak the truth.

My hands. They, too, are golden.

If you lived in the 40k universe, would you rely on telepathy if there was a saner, safer alternative?

It's probably rude to do that. How would you like having unwanted data beamed directly into your brain, and have passers-by looking at what you do at weekends?

I suspect they use some sort of passive signal to give emphasis or express emotion though.
