Hey there dakka, it’s been a while but I finally got a battle report typed up.

Always in search of new opportunities for profit, the Grand Nagus has entered into negotiations for a lucrative trade deal with the Gorn. A key component of the negotiations was the Gorn’s interest in acquiring a field of self replicating mines to protect one of their hatchery worlds. The Nagus was more than happy to facilitate arrangements between the Gorn and a notable Ferengi weapons merchant, for a small finder’s fee of course. However once they were activated the mines became faulty and failed to recognize the proximity code supplied by the Ferengi. Two Gorn patrol vessels were damaged by the mines. Furious the Gorn Ministry of Defense insisted the Ferengi repair the mines or refund their latinum. After attempts to repair the mines failed the Nagus himself attempted to negotiate a settlement with the Gorn.

The Nagus was able to arrange support from Damons Bractor and Bok for added security during his talks with the Gorn. Negotiations quickly soured as the Ferengi refused to refund the latinum. The Nagus returned to his ship insisting that the Gorn allow more time for examination of the faulty mines. Unfortunately the Gorn took this as a sign of disrespect and dispatched ships to prevent the Ferengi from leaving the system. Trapped, the Ferengi must go through the mine field and still get past the Gorn fleet to escape.

Ok there is the narrative. We thought the Gorn and Ferengi ships were pretty even matches for a game. To spice things up we threw in the Self Replicating Mines from the Dominion War OP1. For those not familiar with them, they count as obstacles but if you roll a hit or crit you keep rolling for damage for a maximum of three.

Set Up

Turn 1

Every one moves up being careful to avoid the mines.

Turn 2

Target Locks fly all over the place

Combined fire from all Ferengi ships destroy the Gornarus . Sesslak leaves Bok’s Marauder smoking . Losing his shields and taking a direct hit Bok is down to 1 hull. Before being destroyed the Gornarus lands 5 hits on the Kreechta with his photons and the marauder is finished off by Slar. These torpedoes are on fire, it never goes this well in an OP.

Turn 3
Bok takes 3 shields off the S’Gorn. Tarr hits Slar’s ship for 3 shields and 2 crits (he still had his torps). In return Slar picks one shield off of the Krayton.

Turn 4
Sesslak on the S’Gorn pulls a surprising Full Reverse .

The S’Gorn destroys Bok’s Marauder and the Krayton takes out Slar.

Turn 5
S’Gorn and Krayton move off to reposition.

Turn 6
Rom repairs a shield on the Krayton. S’Gorn is still rolling hot with its torpedoes stripping 3 shields and causing 1 hit and a crit. Direct hit again, HEY SOMEBODY SHUFFLE THIS DECK!

Turn 7
The Krayton pulls its own revers staying out of S’Gorn’s firing arc .

Turn 8
Sesslak whiff leaving him in a bad spot. Krayton moves in getting a lucky shot for 1 hit and a crit (comm failure) on S’Gorn.

Turn 9

S’Gorn discards Dalby to repair 2 Hull. The Krayton bumps, but Tarr still gets his BS.

With the Comm Failure gone Sesslak is shooting first . Three hits on the Krayton is enough to finish the Ferengi off.

With his ship crippled and an armed Gorn boarding party making their way to the bridge, Zek is now considering a full refund.

Well I defiantly saw that going differently in my mind . Gorn Commander and Sesslak were insane with those torpedoes . The Ferengi were holding their own, but sadly the Full Reverse and Dalby tipped the scales against them . Oh, well it gives us an excuse for a follow up game. I was hoping that the mines would have played a bigger part, maybe next time I will take the Thought Maker

Hope you enjoyed.

Lovely use of full reverse in this, always enjoy these battle reports of yours.

Also sadly demonstrates how underwhelming the D'kora is compared with most other NG ships of the line, despite frequently being described in the series as capable of holding their own vs a galaxy.

Agreed, the D'Kora is a little underpowered. Though I thought the torpedoes worked well. Maybe next time I'll take High Yield Photons. It would be thematic for Ferengi to buy the best available merchandise

Great report! I loved the fleets. Playing casually is such a different experience from a competitive OP.

It really is a different experience. OPs are fun, but casual games with more of a story line brings out more of the Trek for me. I also happen to a believer in less being more sometimes. I find casual thematic games with few options to be much more fun than the anything goes OP

Casual games are where the game really shines in my opinion. Its one of those things that lets you get crazy with builds.

Example: we had a 4 way game, where each of us had to do a different build, but maximize our evade dice. It ended in a draw, because my opponent was rolling 4 attack dice at range 1, with me rolling no less than 9, with conversions... and was I was rolling 3 attack dice, against the craziness of a cloaked Pegasus with Desoto and specialized shields.

I love making up a scenario for this game. I didn't come up with much for this match, but I usually like to make a primary and secondary objective for games. Hopefully I can get a few more games in and typed up before Christmas. We want to get another TOS game in and I am working up something for Tholians maybe against Vulcans. Casual play gives us soo much more opportunity to try factions and ships that are barely seen if at all in OPs.

I'm wondering if we shouldn't all start putting in a scenario at the beginning of a month and then all the other players on dakka give it a whirl and do a battle report post for it each.

I agree i would love to play some new scenarios.

"Travellin' through space is boring. Well, boring unless da hulk yer on is full of dem gene-sneakers, or a base fer da chaos lads wiv da spikes, or already has Boyz on it. Or if humie lootas come callin', that's always good fer a bit a sport. Or unless yer have a mutiny or two to pass da time, or unless strange fings start happenin', which dey usually do when yer out in da warp. One time we had some bloody great ugly fing come straight out of Weird Lugwort's 'ed! It butchered half da lads, that was pretty entertainin'. Come ter fink of it, space is a pretty good larf. And that's before yer find yerself a nice world ta crush!"

I am SOOOOO in on that! I think we could even do a rotating narrative for everyone as well!

I am literally bouncing at my desk with excitement...
