Hello all. I haven't been able to play since shortly before 6th ed came out, I'm looking to get back into the hobby pretty badly though and I still have a ton of old minis. Any tips for somebody joining in again about 7th ed. or specifically nids, orcs, marines or necron? Also I'm in the north Jersey area of New Jersey and I'm looking for a place that might be worth visiting to play a few games.
Anybody who might be willing to give me pointers on getting my wife involved in the game would be massively appreciated. Thanks all

Hi. Welcome to Dakka

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Welcome back to the hobby, and Dakka in particular! Nids have a few less than stellar codexes, but there are plenty of builds that certainly work very well. Orks are my main army, and I do very well against most armies, though I always struggle with going up against Imperial Knights. Space Marines are always good, and the newest book continues the trend of interesting rules for different chapters. Can't say too much about Necrons, though the general trend of their latest book was to make all the good stuff worse and the bad stuff great (eg: barges got more expensive and tomb stalker jetbikes way cheaper with amazing options).
As far as getting the wife into the hobby, that may be difficult. I got mine into roleplaying with Dungeons and Dragons, but no more success than that on the tabletop gaming front (thought she's more into computer gaming than I am at this point). Get her off painting a few models with you. My wife dislikes the game but loves painting orks. I've found a lot of girls have a thing for 'Nids and Eldar. I think it has to do with them being "cute" and pretty respectively, while remaining gender neutral. From there see if she is interested in playing a demo game, either with yourself or a team battle with a few friends. Keep it casual and fun with lots of painted models and cool terrain to really show what the game has to offer. A lot of people shirk away from the competitive side of wargaming (understandably so IMO). People will grow into that aspect when or if they want to.
If she's not interested, don't push it. My wife played a game once and never wanted to play again. Just not her cup of tea.

Thank you, lots of really helpful stuff. i had one gf start painting up a couple models for me and she dug it but that was years ago, definitely think that's how Ill start. Excellent point on playing with painted armies as well, its difficult to get done considering Ive got two swarm armies but it really does pull people in better. Thanks
