Subject: Heavy Flamer...why restrict it so much?

I play Salamanders SM's and I find it to be the height of stupidity that I cannot take heavy flamers except on my Sterngard and Terminators squads. What's the point on restricting this weapon so much? Everyone can take gravcannons so what's the big deal with taking a heavier flame thrower?
Especially with a Chapter that specializes in "Burn, Heretic!" Tactics.

I dunno. All the more reason to condense the Marine books outside Grey Knights into a singular codex.

You could play a successor chapter of BA.
Tactical BA Marines have access to heavy flamers.

Personally I just think that Salamanders aren't as popular a Chapter option out of the main SM codex as some of the other chapters so GW didn't really bother to see how that (albeit small) restriction on flamer weapons made no sense for them in particular.
I do believe they should have just streamlined all the Marines into one Dex and then made small side books for each chapter (like they did with Iron Hands and Imperial Fists).

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case. |

Because the HF bit is only on the SG/terminator sprue?
GW will occasionally make strange restrictions based on what can be found in the kits. We didn’t always have MMs in tac squads either. As more multi-part plastic PA HFs get made, I’d expect to see the restriction lifted in the next codex or the one after that.
