Studio area , nothing much to add that others haven't said, Bloodbowl Q4, its GW not Forgeworld.

That's an interesting tidbit about BB being a GW Studio project and not FW and/or Specialist Games Studio. What gave you this impression? Did someone say that this was a Studio project?

Yeah, that's not what I heard from people either. I'm pretty sure it's a specialist games studio. I read that it was a GW release but I think that just means like BaC, you buy it from GW not from FW.

Someone said on Bolter and Chainsword (I think) that Forge World is split into three sections now, a 30k/40k/AoS section lead by Alan Bligh, a Specialist Games section and a Middle Earth section.

You can almost hear the mighty sigh that comes before the last bit of that sentence.

So, back home now; that was a fun day out.

I've taken a few random pictures, just things that caught my eye, dumped in this gallery:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-19970-49764_GW%20Birthday%202016.html

I haven't got any of the new stuff a) because others already seemed to have covered that quite well and b) because my camera really didn't like taking photo's of backlit grey resin through glass(!)

Spent the afternoon in the Total War: Warhammer session and doing the speed-building competition.

TW:W looks like it's going to be a proper, high-end PC game with a lot of scope; this year's release will be the first of three eventually covering the whole of the WHFB 8th edition races and maps. Each game will effectively be a standalone, but the three link together if you have them all, to allow you to campaign across the whole world. The guy giving the presentation seemed really psyched about it, sounds like they've had a lot of fun in development because instead of "guy with pointy thing fighting different guy with different pointy thing" they've had dragons and tunnel battles and magic. They mainly showcased the orcs & goblins factions, but they really seem to get it. IMHO they've captured the unique spirit of the grenskins in their army mechanics and if they've been able to do that for the rest it will be very fun (and varied) to play.

The speed-build was a neat thing for them to have organised; one hour to build the best Space Marine vs Ork combat you can using only clippers, clue and an insanely large pile of sprues in the middle of the table. Purely for fun, each model was photographed and will go on their Facebook page and we all got to keep our efforts (plus a few spare bits ).

All-in-all I think they did a nice job with the whole day; I wouldn' call it spectacular by any stretch of the imagination, but it was heartfelt and genuinely felt like they were just trying to reach out to and have a good time with the community. Not bad for free!

Agreed, was delighted when I saw those pics too Seem to be sticking with the Old World aesthetic as well which is a plus from a nostalgia point of view

Steve Casey from the Eldritch Epistles blog took lots of photos of Aly Morrison's sketchbook on the event showing his work during the early Warhammer (2nd and 3rd Ed) and Marauder Miniatures days:

I remember some of the miniatures these were made into. Some of the dwarves were great, they had character without being just an angry armoured ball with an axe.

The Dark Elves were rather nice as well... Maybe not holding up the best of the recent plastics, but they were better than anything else GW had put out for many years. I had a fairly large army of those Marauder Dark Elves back In the day...

Oh yes, Marauder had great sculpts. Especially their Dwarfs are really excellent minis and still top-notch today with modern paint jobs

The first "specialist game" to be released and will be announced any time now!

Posters have been seen in the staff areas at GWHQ.

Boardgame with models from all the factions? I don't want to say Dreadfleet... but that sounds a lot like Dreadfleet: Flying Edition!

On the other hand, X-wing has really inspired me for aircraft/ship combat, so I hope to be very pleasantly surprised by this. Done well, it could be awesome!

Boardgame...

Hmmm. Years, and years, and years ago Jervis said he wanted to make a "squadron level" fighter game based more on squadron psychology than dogfighting. Aeronautica Imperialis obviously wasn't this, but it wasn't a boardgame either. And Bommerz over the Suphur River only had two factions. Could be something completely new.

At our 40th Birthday Party we had a great time as everyone had the challenge to build a model using a variety of bitz from space marine and ork sprues. The (loose) rule was to have a Space Marine fighting an Ork. Some did build exactly that, some didn't - it was all in the name of fun. By the 24th of January the konvershun that has the most likes will be accorded the winner of our challenge. Feel free to like more than one!

Interesting that the vast majority went for Space Marine on the receiving end of Ork abuse!

That was quite fun. I don't play Sm/orks so I was all like "dayumn, look at all them bits" plus, the new citadel pliers are awesome. At least, compared to the old ones.

Those BB minis are pretty underwhemling. I wish the human would be more like the Cyanide ones, a mix of puffy and tight clothes, utilitarian armour, feathers, scars and a bad attitude.

The orc has one of the ugly new faces, how I miss Grimgork and the old boyz for WHFB and 40k with the slightly rounder faces.

Both are not what I'm hoping for in starter set quality after SH, DV chosen and AoS Khorgos Khul.

Looking for a Skaven Doomwheel banner to repair my Nurgle knights.

Other people said something similar, apparently plans are afoot to see if they can get it painted by someone at the HQ.

Hopefully HQ goes for a quality paint job for it rather than the current box art/average gamer standard as it's pretty sweet
