Can I pick a unit not on the table (i.e. in reserve)?

Why would you want to? its not like you can damage a unit in reserves.

Yes, if you want to do so.

Given you decide on the enemy turn, you may have to decide before reserve rolls are made, so you do not know which will actually be arriving. In fact as their opponent this is exactly what I would do - given on my turn i choose the order.

They go first and have something coming in from reserve that you really want to kill if it does (say, with your retaliation squadron arriving)

Right, but that unit may or may not come in that turn, so it does not seem worth it to do so.

Unless they enemy player has any kind of reserve manipulation, it's a pretty risk move.

But you totally can do it.

Or its turn 4, so you KNOW they will come in from reserve. Or they have a lone drop pod, so you KNOW that drop pod will come in with the contents.

Yes risky, but it could be key against denial armies.

I don't have my book on me, but I thought Reserves were just a flat 3+ now. Do they still come on automatically on Turn 4?

Yep. And Deep Strike that mishap back to reserves will auto-come next turn (Ongoing Reserves)

I can think of a lot of situations (and others have already suggest some) but the primary one/inspiration for asking this quesiton would be a reserved deadstar.

I'd have to agree that "one enemy unit" should include any in Reserves. Is it an enemy unit? Yes. Does this mean you might waste your change-once-per-turn advantage? Yes.

Seems perfectly fair to me in addition to being exactly what the rule said and nothing more.

Think about Deathmarks coming in to Ethereally Intercept one of your Crisis Suit Teams. They come in on your Movement Phase (and then Shoot), then you can Shoot them in that same Phase.

Bad for an Intercept, though, since it only works on the player turn.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?
