I impulse bought an Imperial Bastion kit two years ago, and I've been looking at ways of putting it together. I've decided that I'm not a huge fan of how the bastion looks with the mid-level with the emplaced Heavy Bolters.

On the other hand, I think using just the base and the parapet looks more satisfying. Without the mid-level with the Heavy Bolters, the bastion actually looks like a proper bunker. The only problem is determining how to use the bunker in games, which is what brought me here.

I've been browsing my 'Stronghold Assault' book, and it looks like I should be able to use the "Wall of Martyrs Imperial Bunker" rules to represent my one level bastion. The WoM bunker costs 20 pts. less, lacks the hvy bolters, otherwise they're pretty much identical; they're both Medium Buildings with access to the same options. The only issue is the "Wide Fire Points" special rule, which obviously shouldn't apply to the one level bastion.

So what do you think?

As long as the people you are playing with don't complain, do what you like. I'd play against it without a second thought.

If you're making your own terrain the rule book tells you to create your own data sheet using the official data sheets as examples.

It sounds like you're well under way with that.

The easiest solution would just involve using the Bastion as a WoM Bunker, and ignoring the 'wide fire points' special rule, because that's common sense. I've compared the different bunkers from 'Stronghold Assault' and I'm pretty sure the WoM bunker was designed to be a bare bones Medium building at 55 pts, possibly 50 pts, with the special rule added in for an extra 5 pts.

The special rule essentially provides an additional 6 fire points along one side of the building, while my bastion will only have 3 fire points in total. The bastion will also have twice the footprint, which should make it easier to hit with templates in particular. The only advantage would have to be larger area on top of the building, there's enough room for 10 guardsmen, whereas the WoM can only really have 5-6 models on top of it.

I think a fair points cost for the bunker/bastion I'm intending to build should be 50 pts (possibly 45), but I honestly don't mind overpaying by 5 (or 10 points). Rule of Cool is always going to be my indicative design philosophy, and I'm used to making army lists with extravagant and irrelevant purchases thrown in, so overpaying something by 5 points is trivial for me.
