So I'm gonna repaint my DV-kit Dark Angel Librarian, and I figured he'd be painted up pre-Heresy colours so he'd make a Fallen Angel. However, I was thinking about what would be the "correct" colour of his armour. I'm presuming it should be black rather than blue due to the Council of Nikaea, as Librarians didn't exist in the formal structure of the Legiones Astartes? Bear in mind the DAs had black power armour until after the Heresy.

Yup, he would have black armor.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

If he is a calabinite then he will have green on his armour, if terran, it's all black.

Afaik, the green occurred after the Heresy, and did so according to the wiki. Any other source that says otherwise?

Green was never a primary color of the Dark Angels in the Great Crusade, but during the RC and HH red, white, and green were used as secondary colors/patterns/highlights.

Spoiler:

This is only half true, green was the colour of the marines hailing from caliban and was starting to gain traction in the Legion, while the terrans still wore black, in the larger Legion green wasn't as common however. Can't remember which book this was in, but I think cypher stated it in the most recent 40k dark angels book, I'll check.

Aye, I was referring to the primary colour. Always struck me as odd that Cypher is green too.

I've never heard it, but it'd be great if you could find a source!

'Call of the Lion', by Gav Thorpe.
Commander Belath wears green, but only for a shoulder pad, as remembrance of Calibans forest.

I believe Isafrael wears blue armor, but he's on Caliban, and probably isolated from the Edict of Nikea.

Hope that helps.

My $0.02, which since 1992 has rounded to nothing. Take with salt.

Cheers!

Though, regardarding Isafrael, do you know when Librarians started wearing blue? 'Cause I've seen the Codex Astartes mentioned as the starting point on the (unsourced) wh40k wiki.

It's in latest caliban series, astelan explains that only the calabanites were wearing green.

Hope that helps.

I've got that book, but can't remember that! I'll need to double check. But I'm presuming it's only green trim?

He remembers "some" of the dark angels starting to paint there armour green, in remeberence of the forests of caliban, from the context I assume it's rather rare however.

Thanks I think I'll give him some green trim; I'm going for a mix of Terrans and Calibanites.

check the wiki pages for it, there should be a source. The dark angels have records of all marines on caliban at the time which they use to hunt the fallen.
