So I've been thinking for a while now, and wondering about the rules of waterbased movement in 40K

Obviously since the Chimera has the Amphinious rule, it can sail in water (And for the hell of it, tank shock), so some rules must exist?
I have also never heard of people, neither myself, actually played with water terrain, and as such don't know the rules for them.

Anyone care to enlighten me?
And what other units are there to benefit from water?

What does the datasheet for the water terrain say?

For a long time Water type terrains where only difficult terrain.

There was at one point some variations, deeper and wilder rivers, lake and such that also made you roll a dangerous terrain.

But essentially thats the gist of it.

Water features in 7th fall under "scratch built terrain"(technically so does everything that isnt an official set with a datasheet, possibly even hills and such).

It has been everything from difficult, to dangerous, to impassable.

I have played with river, lake, and swamps before; most of the time we consider water features impassable for vehicles(chimeras and skimmers can, of course, move over it just fine)

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Pretty much. It is whatever you want it to be from a small creek a Scarab couldn't drown in to something that is deep enough to sink an Imperator Titan. Discuss with your opponent and establish how it will be treated when setting Terrain.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

All right, I was hoping that there were rules in the likes of the terrain of Age of Sigmar (Warhammer Fantasy).

But WH40k seems to be a lot more circumstansial with the terrain. As in game group to game group.

its been a while since i've played regular games

but when we did water was common and broke into 2 forms

swamps, streams, etc... any water we considered walkable was difficult terrain

rivers, lakes, etc... any water considered unwalkable was impassable (except to chimeras and flyers and the like)

funny, I've always just assumed everyone did the same, never heard anyone actually ask the question

If you take a look in the 6th ed rulebook the mysterious terrain rules offered a selection of rulesets for rivers.

A new day, a new time zone.

Water tends to be difficult or dangerous terrain, depending on the circumstances.
